surprise: i was right.

when i wrote this, i had been freshly introduced to the type of pain that sends cold waves of shock throughout your body, waking you up in the middle of the night throwing up icy bolts of betrayal down your back. i had never been so angry. i had never felt pain so physically present, so ache-in-my-throat, red-in-my-eyes, burn-in-my-nose. i thought that the hurt would live with me forever, so i tried lying to myself with a measly tumblr post.

it's more of a dull, faint ache now. a lingering sense of humiliation in the back of my ribcage. i sing along to love is embarrassing and i understand every word like i penned the poem. it doesn't hurt anymore.

i've got new aches and pains! i've lived three years since this post! i've known great joy and loss, i've cried until i've thrown up, i've given up a million times over, and it all makes me so grateful to be alive. what a comforting reminder it is to know that this too shall pass. the prayers will be answered. the only way out is through.
