Slowly, year by year, I’m making my own (not really on theme) Christmas Village.
It’s the worst selling item in my shop.
But setting up the porcelain Christmas village with my mom each year is one of my more vivid childhood memories. When I got older I started buying her a piece every year, because I remembered her getting herself one each year. When I moved out, I started my own, and now friends get me a piece a year. And I still get my mom one.
I never want to take them down, but I don’t really have room for them, and they’re VERY winter and Christmas themed. So I wanted to make my own - ones that were smaller, could rotate with the seasons, and even pack flat. And my 3D modeling skills aren’t up to snuff yet - but I CAN draw and design for laser cutting. So these were born.
They didn’t sell well last year. Or at all. But I still love them, and want to make so many more. I have 3 ideas for this year already, and maybe some ones for the other seasons too. I could make much more money just making the one ornament people buy like crazy, but sometimes the personally meaningful things are more important. It keeps the artist inside from dying. 💕
