Why am I always rooting for the character wielding a cello that doesn’t know how to express their feelings‽

nothing is more subtle or more heartbreaking to me than alicent in the wedding feast scene. and half these shots dont even follow her, they follow viserys shes just in the background, (which just perfectly sums up the way alicent and her desires are stifled by viserys/his wants just btw)

so shes just watched whatever it was that was happening between daemon and rhaenyra. salt in a very fresh wound. and as far as i can work out was literally tearing up over it (if we look at the screenshot above). but then people are screaming and pushing and shoving and alicent instinctively gets up before anyone else at the table even does, still looking like shes about to cry the whole time, right up until the moment she realises its not just pushing and shoving - theres a fight happening exactly where rhaenyra was just a moment before, and suddenly her expression changes to this shot of her blatantly worrying about rhaenyra:

"but lydia, how do you know shes worried about rhaenyra? she could just be in shock at seeing the fight and concerned in general."

because its spelled out for us the next time we see her:

this shows us pretty obviously alicents only really interested in where rhaenyra is. this is a tv show, they don't show someone's reaction to something just for the sake of it and alicent is the only person we see react to rhaenyra being safe. she even appears to relax at the end, as if relieved.

this very clearly sets the stage for alicent's refusal to accept any physical harm to rhaenyra - so we can understand why she feels so much guilt and self-loathing over slicing open rhaenyra's arm, and why she is so adamant about protecting rhaenyra in episode 9 even after everything she and rhaenyra have put each other through. just as rhaenyra has a desire to reconcile with alicent she cant shake, reaching out for her even in moments when shes been given no reason to hope (like at the council in episode 6 and dinner in episode 8), alicent has this desperate need to make sure rhaenyra's safe, even at times when she has no intention of reconciling with her. even when shes at her most hostile, harbouring enough resentment to show up to rhaenyras wedding wearing a declaration of war, alicent still cant stomach the thought of rhaenyra being physically harmed. and it doesn't seem to be an aspect of her characterisation thats going anywhere anytime soon.

thinking about robin calling nancy "bunny" because the first time they made out on nancy's bed, a stuffed bunny was digging into robin's back and when she found it, it made them burst into a fit of giggles which settled their nerves about finally kissing each other. nancy tried to throw it across the room but robin held on tightly to it and made it press kisses all over nancy's face. robin set it next to them, tucked it into bed and everything, before caressing nancy's jaw and whispering, "c'mere bunny".

next season i want rhaenyra and alicent to say the most insane shit to each other whenever they share a scene. i want that torn page from the book to be the foreshadowing of the the most wildest love/hate relationship ever seen in westeros. i want rhaenyra to walk up to alicent and grab her by the throat and push her against the wall and say “why did you keep that page all these years” and alicent to be like “because someone i cared for gave it to me” and then stare into each others eyes for like seven minutes straight while all of team black and green are just uncomfortably watching on the sidelines like what the fuck

Warrior Queen Rhaenyra coming back from bloody conflicts or diplomatic matters with Syrax to the Red Keep and immediately asking for Alicent. Straight up refusing to be received by anyone other than her Queen Consort.

Like imagine Alicent is tending to their children or a small council meeting, yk doing her queenly responsibilities, and suddenly a gaggle of servants, handmaidens, and guards are interrupting her duties to almost hysterically inform her that Queen Rhaenyra and Syrax arrived faster than expected and now she’s screaming bloody murder about WHERE IS ALICENT

And Alicent has to take a very deep breath because it would be grossly inappropriate to be entertained by this completely childish behavior. Really. She is totally not amused. At all.

So she walks down to the dragon pit with the gaggle of hysterical servants, handmaidens, and guards, to find Rhaenyra, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, First of Her Name, Protector of the Realm, sulking (with Syrax!) in the corner like a particularly grumpy child.

Alicent walks to her with all the grace of a Hightower, stifling the smile threatening to make way as Rhaenyra glares at those nearby, even those already cowering under her and Syrax’ mirrored ire. She stands behind them, perfectly unnoticed until she clears her throat and Rhaenyra turns around so fast, she almost gives herself whiplash.

“Your Gra–” Alicent starts before she’s abruptly cut off by Rhaenyra sweeping her off the ground, strong arms in a secure hold around her thighs. Breath suddenly knocked out of her, Alicent lets out a exhilarated laugh as Rhaenyra twirls her around in open affection for all to witness, an elated grin fixated on her face.

“Rhaenyra!” Alicent eventually protests and the Targaryen sets her down, only to kiss her senseless as soon as her feet touched the ground. The servants, handmaidens, and guards all avert their eyes, hysterics gone in favor of a collective awkwardness as they play the unwitting third party to their Queens’ passioned reunion.

i kind of daydream about d*emon dying in the war and viserys following him soon after so young rhaenyra becomes the queen and alicent eventually becomes her lover. rhaenyra still has lavender marriage with laenor but they don't try to have kids since rhaenyra announces aegon her heir. she goes from "oh that traitor alicent's son aegon who's a threat to my position 😡" to "oh my beloved alicent's son aegon who saved me from the horrors of childbirth 🥰". otto is very happy with how things turned out lol his daughter not only stayed politically relevant after becoming queen dowager but managed to make his grandson a future king and is using her childhood friendship with the queen to have her ear at all times. he couldn't be more proud of alicent. criston doesn't know lesbianism exists so he doesn't think much of alicent sleeping in his queens room often. he considers them as very good lady pals and sees dutiful alicent as a great influence on rhaenyra. the particular sounds coming out from the queen's room sometimes are simply not his business. rhaenyra gaslights everyone at court about her and alicent relationship this time around and criston threatens violence against anyone who disrespects his queens with improper implications.
