His body freezes, like a frightened animal caught in the headlights, and he finally looks at you properly, eyes wide and cheeks flushed. "Wha—what's with you all of a sudden?!" His ears redden and a scoff runs past his lips, but he doesn't shrug you off.

He leans in instead, pinning you down with a stare. His red eyes are darker than usual. "I told you, I don’t care. You want my attention that bad?" Butterflies scatter in your stomach as he whispers, enunciating every word like he's engraving them directly into your brain. Your head empties and all you can do is nod, hoping he won't notice the way your legs quiver under the pressure of his proximity.

He does.
