“I wonder if...
...there was any other choice we could have made.
Maybe this was set in stone from the start.
Still... I can’t help but think... what if... that day...
I chose another answer?
Then maybe it wouldn’t have come to this.”

Tokyo Ghoul Opening Theme songs meanings.
Tokyo Ghoul S1 - Unravel.
The classic and iconic Unravel OP is legendary and is recognized among all of anime opening theme song history. The Unravel Opening eludes to the first act of Kaneki’s Tragic life. The meaning of Unravel In the dictionary is to Undo. His world unfurling and falling apart by the hands of Rize, and him being thrown into the dark ghoul world. Forced to no longer live as a human. Him seeing the animosity between that ghouls and humans have for one another. His world literally becomes undone.
Tokyo Ghoul S2 / Root A - Incompetence.
The meaning of incompetence is the inability to do something successfully. This I can correlate to Kaneki’s indecision. And him seeming to pick the worst choice there possibly is at the time of an important event in his life. But also here Kaneki Finally accepts himself as a ghoul. He sees himself as no longer being a human being. This opening draws to Kaneki’s questionable and eyebrow raising bad decisions, or him just being indecisive, him leaving anteiku, the manager, and Touka. And him later on going to rescue the manager, when it all amounted to naught but his “death” and the still inevitable destruction of Anteiku. Who’s to say what the right decision was, did he regret it? I think so. Later on, In dialogue it could be ascertained that he did. But whatever other options he had, this was one of the worst he could have chosen, leading to him losing his friends, his prior life, and memories.. he was surely incompetent in his decision making.
Tokyo Ghoul S3 / Re - Asphyxia.
Asphyxia pertains to the medical condition where the body is deprived of oxygen, causing unconsciousness or death; suffocation. When you suffocate you slowly begin to fade, and die, it is not an instantaneous death. Like Kaneki, slowly regaining his memories and having visions of his past. Everything doesn’t come back to him all at once until the rosewald arc. Where Haise “Dies”. This title has to do with Kaneki’s/Haise’s process of slowly regaining his memories, losing his current life and the people he loves such as the quinx, Akira, and Arima, and going back into the ghoul world he loathed and feared. He finally had built a family, as fake as it may have been, it was something he never had and so cherished it. But alas of course it didn’t last..
Tokyo Ghoul S4 / Re Part 2 - Katharsis.
Katharsis means the process of releasing strong repressed emotions and finding relief. Since this is the final season of Tokyo Ghoul. Everything must wrap up and our anti hero and protagonist Kaneki must come to a resolution and understanding of himself after his long tragic and beautiful journey. He does continue to make the same mistakes as he had done in the past, but he finally becomes self aware, and tries to accept the help of other instead of carrying the responsibilities of being a leader and fighting for the lives of other, by himself. He grows as a person. It also seems in the final season he finally comes to terms with his life and is happy and content. After suffering and fighting his destiny, he makes peace, he creates a happy home and family, and brings the ghoul and human world together, and as close as it’s ever been. He makes the best of his life. And at long last. He finds his own happy ending.
(P.s. I added YouTube links to each Tokyo Ghoul Season Opening if you haven’t seen them, or if you’d like to hear them again. Enjoy.)

The first time Touka was on top of Kaneki, she attacked him and brought him to the ground, where she repeatedly hit his face with her fists.
And the second time, she once again pushed him onto the floor, where she gently hit his face with her lips, once again, repeatedly...
Amazing parralels by Ishida.
LoL...
