Survival (Year 1, Seventh Umbral Era)

In wake of the calamity, Leonas finds himself displaced and at a loss of memory. With no family and no purpose, he followed the herd of refugees to Ul’dah, where life only got harder. Having no talents for pickpocketing the well-off, the young man lies among the other refugees slowly losing their strength to despair and starvation... Until a master of an establishment offers him a job, after all, he’s got a pretty face, and catboys have always done well, and with demand heavily outweighing supply, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Journey to the Past (Year 4, 7th Astral Era)

(Manaia is a fellow PC and not my creation and I didnt wanna put words in his mouth so thats why he doesn’t talk-- also shippy content)

Manaia never got to know much about his native culture, and Lamonte chose to leave his behind half a lifetime ago. In an attempt to learn and relive memories the two share an expedition to some Gelmorran ruins, where emotions well up.

Lamonte: “Despite being exposed to the elements I’m surprised these ruins have held up so well... I suppose that goes to show how well our forefathers built these halls....”

L “I didn’t expect to feel so nostalgic... Is it weird to say I feel right at home?”

L “Close to the surface... Not too warm.... Great acoustics when the wind doesn’t howl....”

L “My uncle and I used to work in a chamber not unlike these for sending ceremonies, our voices would resonate with the rock and our singing would be heard through the entire complex.”

L “Though I have to admit it wasn’t much anyway, I don’t think we had more than a hundred people in our community, and not all that much interaction with people outside that... I suppose not unlike the people of Sui-no-Sato... (until recently anyway)”

L “Though as soon as the calamity hit I’m sure we’d have been at a great disadvantage for our ignorance.”

L “When I worked at house Senna, those first months I took care to listen to every bit of information I could commit to memory... Most of where I came from collapsed in the landslides, including the home I left behind so long ago.”

L “I know my family enough to know they wouldn’t show themselves to Gridanians unless they had to... But I worry for them, having learned what happened to Prew in such a short time--”

L “But who’s to say they even chose to surface? Perhaps they dwelled deeper instead... Perhaps I’m naive to even have such hopes, but I can’t help but hold on to it...”

L “On the other hand I can’t deny my hope is founded in guilt for not keeping in contact better in the first place...”

L “Manaia could I be so bold as to ask for your assistance?”

L “When I was a boy, my father once tasked me with picking the prettiest blooms for a ceremony of welcoming... It sounds so stiff and official to say, but in reality it was just... merriment, joy, celebration... At the time, a Hyuran woman was invited to join our family... I can’t remember her name, but she was the first person different from myself that I ever met... But still we welcomed her.”

L “I.... have a bold question.You’re welcome to say no, of course. I know you have a lovely mother and a caring sister and I would never ask you to leave them....”

L “But would you consider being part of my .... family?”

L “You needn’t answer right away of course-- but.... I’d be honored to welcome you.”

Start Of A New Era (Year 1, 7th Umbral Era)

(4 years before ARR)

After Lamonte’s arrest custody over his children was taken and he himself taken into servitude. He found himself lucky to serve a house of Senna, and upon occasion found himself running errands in town as opposed to being locked away soley as interior staff. Mahna’to, being the more reserved child finds himself with more freedoms than his elder twin, and if a stroke of luck would have it, they could make for fine opportunities.

Mahna’To: “Might I please be excused?”

T “Papa!!”

Lamonte: “Oh my dear Tommy, I’m so glad to see you.”

T “After they told us what you’d done they wouldn’t let us see you--”

T “I thought we’d lost you too...”

T “I hate it here -- I wanna go home with you, and Aurie, and Prew and Leo.”

L “I know, mon cher, and there is nothing I would more like than to go home with all of you...”

L “But the world is changed, and far more dangerous for it... And as much as I wish we could, running away would only make things more difficult for us...”

L “I hate to ask this of you, but be good, please... and look after your brother.”

T “B-But what about you??”

L “I’ll be good too, I’ll do as they ask of me, and any chance I get I’ll come to see you both... And I’ll make sure we find Leo and Prew.”

L “Until then, remember that your mother and I always always love you, and even if we aren’t right beside you we are close... And before you know it we’ll all be together again, laughing around a bonfire under a full moon like we used to.”
