Closing the door behind him, Ethan stepped out of a patient's room and handed the chart off to a nurse, ordering a list of tests. His eyes scanned the ED and noticed y/n missing.

"Hey, Maggie. Have you seen y/n?" He asked, walking over the desk.

"Last time I saw her, she was checking on Mr. Jeffrey. I'm sure she's fine, Ethan."

"I'm getting that feeling that something is seriously wrong." Ethan tapped his thumbs on the desk in front of him. He couldn't just ignore the feeling he had deep within his gut.

Pushing himself away, he took off down the hall to the elevators. Mr. Jeffrey's room was on the third floor, so the best place to ask questions was there. Once on the third floor, he saw Ava standing at the nurses’ station.

"Hey, have you seen y/n anywhere?"

"I haven't-"

A nurse's screaming interrupted her. Running over to where the scream came from, the two doctors were shocked to see y/n laying on the floor in a pool of her own blood. He got down on the floor, pressing his fingers to her neck. "I got a pulse! We need to hurry!"

Scooping her up in his arms, he made a mad dash down the stairwell and back down to the ED.

"Maggie! I could use your help here!" Ethan shouted, placing y/n down on the bed. "Y/n y/l/n, twenty-eight two stab wounds to the abdomen."

"How did she even get stabbed?" April questioned.

"I don't know. Maybe a patient attacked her?" Ava added. She knew what happened, but she wasn't about to confess to her crime.

"If that was the case, then the whole hospital would go into lockdown."

"What the hell is going on?"

All the doctors treating y/n turned their attention to the dark-haired man standing in the doorway.

"Y/n was stabbed."

"By who?"

"We don't know."

Connor reached for a pair of gloves, ready to assist, but Sharon stopped him. "You can't, Connor."

"But that's my girlfriend!"

"That's precisely why you cannot treat her. You'll jeopardize her care by letting your emotions get the best of you."

He squeezed the gloves in his hand, knowing she was right. Connor's eyes then turned back to the trauma room, and seeing the love of his life in such a state filled him with worry. And suddenly, the air around him felt hot and humid, making him tug and pull at the neckline of his scrub top. Then the tightness in his chest grew more and more as seconds went by. It felt as if the walls of the ED were closing in on him.

"I- I need- to get out of here." Connor stuttered, making his way outside. As soon as the chilly breeze hit him, all the contents in his stomach went on the ground.

A hand rubbed his back, “Get it all out.”

Connor wiped the edge of his mouth with his hand, fully standing up to see Ava standing there. "What are you doing out here?"

"Checking on you. You okay?" Ava said, leading Connor over to the bench.

"Honestly, no. I'm not okay. The love of my life got stabbed by some unnamed assailant and is practically on death’s doorstep. So you tell me… am I okay?"

"Y/n is going to be okay."

"And how do you know that, Ava?" Connor ran his hands through his hair. "I love her. I love her so much that I want to marry her. I even want to have kids with her, despite how scared I am of being a good enough father. I want it all with her. I don't know what I'm going to do if I lose her."

Connor cried out, looking at his feet. Ava could feel herself get angry. She thought if she could get rid of y/n, she might have a chance. Apparently not. So she had to come up with a Plan B and fast.

"What a lucky girl." She snarled under her breath.

"What was that?"

"She'll be stupid if she said no." Ava smiled. 'That's if he gets the chance to propose,' she thought.

The two sat in silence until they heard footsteps behind them. Snapping their heads in the noise's direction, they see Maggie standing there. “Y/n’s out of surgery. She’s asking for you.”

Connor jumped up from the bench and followed Maggie to Y/n’s room. “Thank god you’re okay. I was worried that I'd lose you.”

“I’m fine, you don’t need to worry so much.”

“I’m always going to worry about you. I love you.”

Y/n scoffed at the man sitting next to her. “You sometimes have a funny way of showing it.”

“Y/n, do we have to do this now? I mean, you got stabbed and almost died!”

“Yeah, we do-”

A nurse poked her head in the room, asking Connor for a consultation. “When I get back, we’re talking about this.”

“You bet we are.” She sighed, her head falling back on the pillow.

She wasn't alone for long because the same person who put her in this situation walked in. "You have a lot of nerve walking in my room after you tried to kill me."

"You just had to survive, didn't you?"

"I've been known to be a little stubborn from time to time."

"You ruined my plans!"

"Plans? Let me guess. You thought that if I died, you could swoop in, comfort Connor after my passing and make him fall in love with you? Do you have any idea how messed up that is? But then again, I wouldn't expect anything less from you, you psychotic bitch."

“Name calling isn't nice, y/n." Ava reached into her pocket and pulled out a vile of clear liquid, "I'm going to make sure you actually die this time."

"You won't get away with it." She watched Ava fill the syringe. "Can you at least tell me what you're going to kill me with?"

"A lethal dose of fentanyl."

"HELP! SHE'S GONNA KILL ME!" she screamed, but no one came to her aid.

"Connor will be mine."

Just as Ava was about to inject the drug, Connor walked back into her room. "What are you doing?"

"Y/n was in a considerable amount of pain and asked for something to relieve it. Ain't that right, y/n?"

"Is this true, y/n?" Connor asked.

"She's the one who stabbed me, Connor. She's trying to kill me with a lethal dose of fentanyl because she has this sick fantasy in her head that you'll fall in love with her after I die."

"That's not true. She's lying!"

Slowly stepping forward, Connor reached out toward Ava and the syringe in her hand. "Give it to me, Ava. You don't want to do this."

"Oh! But I do. She took you from me! You and I are meant to be!"

"Ava, either put the syringe down or give it to me. Please."

"Not a chance in hell," Ava noticed intelligence standing behind Connor with their guns pointed at her and realized her time was up.

Laughing maniacally, "I'm not going to prison for this. No way."

Ava brought the syringe up to her neck and injected the fentanyl and within seconds, was convulsing on the floor. Ethan and several others came in and took her out of the room to try to resuscitate her.

"Now do you believe me? I tried telling you she was bad news."

"I'm sorry for not believing you."

"You should be!"

"Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?"

"I'll forgive you, but on one condition."

"Name it and I'll make it happen."

"Couples therapy. We obviously have things to work through and talk about before we even take our relationship further."

"I can do that if it means you’ll forgive me.”

A Familiar Face

Pairing: Sam Wilson x Reader

A/N: I’ve never written Sam x Reader before, but I wanted to try given that I love Sam with my whole heart and the fact that their making his roots from the South like Mackie gives my soul an extreme dose of serotonin. I also had this thought they other day while talking to a friend about how Bucky has the term of endearment “doll” that is known through the fandom, but Sam doesn’t really have one and a common term of endearment (that I’ve read, at least) in Louisiana is “cher”, which is a French word that they use because the whole creole/French-Cajun thing they have. So! Cher is my new term of endearment for Samuel T. Wilson!

   I was wrapped up in Mitch when Stan called. In one instant, I had his arms and heat surrounding me, and in the next we were hopping around the room in the nude as we hastened to clothe ourselves. Mitch left to run back to his room where his day clothes were while I balanced, unsuccessfully, to stuff my legs in my jeans.

   Stan’s orders were to dress in civilian clothing so we wouldn’t cause a stir, but our shirts had to be loose enough to hide a bulletproof vest. I pulled my hair into a ponytail as I swished water and toothpaste around in my mouth.
