People don’t realize the hunger games franchise is actually funny. Like the movies make it all serious but in the books there’s literally a scene where a guy is giving another guy cpr and Katniss thought they were kissing and was literally like “weird timing but live your truth ig”

Katniss “pretending” to love Peeta back in the first games will NEVER be a selfish action to me. She did it entirely with the goal to save him. At that point she had enough sponsors, no life threatening injuries, she could hunt/gather, and had her bow and arrows. Their romance was for sponsors and Katniss was not the one in need of help when she chose to reciprocate. Peeta was on the brink of death through out almost the entirety of their alliance, for most of it he was a bigger hinderance than help in winning. But Katniss never even considers any option other than staying with him. Maybe she wasn’t “in love” with him yet, but everything she did was still done as an act of deep care for Peeta. Every romantic moment, every kiss they had, Katniss didn’t do it to get herself home. She did it to get Peeta home.

the way that this blows any “Peeta is a lovestruck puppy” discourse out of the water … the way that it’s Katniss expecting hugs and kisses (from her really very definitely platonic friend nonetheless) … the way Katniss is like “I’ll enable you, Haymitch” … the way that Peeta is paying Ripper off like yes king use your wealth … the way he casually threatens to get his wife and weird drunk uncle arrested if they don’t get on board with his fitness program … the way he absolutely leaves no crumbs … Katniss’s final line asdfghjkl … I love this scene
