Rebecca’s explanation of Steven and Connie’s relationship has got me feeling all soft:

“They’ve always been in love, and they still are! They’re best friends, and it’s true love. They’re growing up, both together and apart, and gaining the power to shape their individual futures and support each other as they do so. And they both know their relationship will be better for that.”

They’re best friends and they’re in love. This is how they’re relationship is defined, this is how they have defined their relationship, how they’ve come to understand their feelings. Their romantic feelings for each other aren’t held up on a pedestal; it’s just one aspect of their deep connection with each other. They didn’t go from “friends” to “dating,” like most shows would portray it. They still very much consider themselves best friends, as well as soulmates who love each other and intend to spend their lives together, and those two experiences aren’t mutually exclusive.

What’s more, they’ve been like this for a very long time, well before Future and the movie, way back into season 2, maybe even earlier. While they certainly had their some close moments in early and mid season 1, there is definitely a marked change in their relationship in Sworn to the Sword that has persisted. It’s when they started seeing themselves as a unit, rejecting the idea of “my liege” and “miss knight” and establishing a dynamic where they fight for and protect one another equally.

It really puts the kiss that they shared in The Future into perspective. There was no fanfare for their first mutual kiss (on screen) because it isn’t incredibly significant to their relationship; just a new gesture that they’ve become comfortable with sharing to express their love for one another. They aren’t boyfriend and girlfriend; they’re best friends, forever and always, whose love for one another is just that, romantic and platonic in equal measures. I think that’s beautiful.

The painting held by the protesters is "Guernica" by Pablo Picasso. It was painted in response to an event during the Spanish Civil War in 1937 where the small Basque town was bombed extensively by Nazi German and Italian forces. 1,645 people were killed and a further 889 were injured. The town was defenseless and held no military gain or strategic value to either opposing forces.

A thousand died defenceless at the hands of an unnecessary military raid. This is a war crime condemned by thousands across the globe.

Tens of thousands more are dying today in Palestine due to Israeli "defences", yet the Western world refuses to condemn them for the same war crime, and dozens more at a much more severe rate.

Guernica communicates the same message today as an anti-war painting, however it is not a conflict if one side has the weapons and the other has their prayers.

Israel is not and never will be the victim.

Israel is an Apartheid Terrorist state.

A four day ceasefire will never be enough if Palestinians are given freedom only to be carpet bombed and buried again. They are grouping the masses to wipe them out more efficiently.

It does not stop at a ceasefire. Palestine must be liberated.

Hey guys, I know there are a lot of really severe tragedies in the world right now and I in no way desire to push those aside, nor do I really want to load another thing onto people's plates, but anyone here in the US needs to be aware that on March 11, 2024, an agricultural company known as NEW Cooperative spilled 265,000 gallons (1500 tons) of liquid nitrogen into the East Nishnabotna River. This is the ecological equivalent of dropping a nuclear weapon into the river. Over a 60 mile stretch downstream of the spill its been a near total ecological wipeout for the river. So far, an estimate of 850,000 fish have been killed from this spill, and that's to say nothing for the insects, amphibians, reptiles and birds that relied on or lived in this river. It is literally filled with animal corpses. This river flows into the Missouri River and the impacts will likely continue to spread far past this 60 mile stretch. And this disaster has barely made local tv in Iowa, let alone national tv, despite the fact that 60 miles of river ecosystem were just wiped out in a way that may be impossible to recover from. And what's the punishment for this heinous act of destruction through negligence, you might ask? As it stands, its looking like a 6k fine from the DNR to the company. Not 600k. Not 60k. 6000 dollars. The maximum fine that the DNR can charge in Iowa is 10k unless they decide to take it further in court. That's why these spills are so frequent in Iowa: it's literally cheaper to eat the fines than it is to bother properly storing fertilizer. I don't know exactly what the proper course of action is here, or who needs to be contacted to enact change--I'm hoping someone more knowledgeable than me will chime in with that information--but at the very least, every one of us should know. Every one of us should make sure we don't forget this. And every one of us should blacklist NEW Cooperative fertilizer unilaterally.

So I'm rewatching SU -mostly because of your drabble series- and I'm currently on Warp Tour. I totally forgot that Amethyst raided the fridge for mac and cheese packets. I always keep boxed mac and cheese in a cabinet. Why would they store it in the fridge? Is that normal??

It's not normal lmao. Listen. The Universe household is WEIRD AS FUCK about food and I feel like people ignore it. Steven's diet is like 90% cheese puffs. The most normal thing he's ever ate on screen was a fucking sandwich. He makes cakes he shoves cheese puffs on, then sushi he shoves cheese puffs into. The boy has a thing about cheese. Early episodes are almost entirely food trauma. FOOD IS WEIRD FOR STEVEN UNIVERSE.

My running theory is either A.) they stuffed a bag in the fridge unaware the mac n cheese was in there or B.) Pearl (or Steven) went "wait. we put dairy in the fridge. this becomes a form of dairy. FRIDGE."
