The movie-verse and book-verse are definitely different universes with different backstories. That's why I just take, like, basics from the books. Especially since I still haven't finished reading them. I basically just ignore the little details like the steam train thing.
For example; Jack is physically 14 as Nightlight, my idea is that he becomes human, adopted by the Overlands, lives with them for 3 years, so he's physically 17, then he "dies," becomes Jack Frost, and the story goes on the way the movie portrayed is 300 years alone.
Another example; Bunny is still an alien but he's not an inventor. I like to headcanon that movie Bunny was a kid when Pitch attacked and he was the last survivor on the escape pod/ship that crash landed into earth. And overtime the ship was consumed by the earth and its plant life, which turns the ship into Bunny's underground warren. That would make the stone egg warriors, robot guards. The chemicals from the ship mutated the plants to create egg hatching flowers and paint flowers, the river of dye is like oil from the ship or something. Etc.
That's just what I do for all the characters and even then a lot of these are super vague as well. Again, because I haven't read all of the books yet. And it's probably just easier for me to exclude certain details for these headcanons because I made most of this up before I even read any of the books. Back when I just knew the basic plot of the books.
Timeline-wise; once again, I ignore the details and just kinda headcanon that the battle with Pitch that formed the Guardians take place over the course of years 1500-1700.
Trying to fit the goc world building and backstories into rotg canon is so tiring..
Jack says he’s “300 years” old, since the movie is released in 2012 that’s presumably the latest it can take place. So he was made a spirit in roughly 1712.
The most concrete date we have for goc is through the comment in ch5 of tooth’s book, bunny would later go on to help invent the steam train “some decades later”.
The steam train was patented in abt 1784 and brought to life in 1804. “some decades” to me can’t be more than 40 something years, as 50 years can be shortened to “half a century” and anything more than that can be shortened to “just under a century” etc etc.
so 40 years before 1804 is 1764.
and 40 years before 1784 is 1744.
In 1764 jack is already about 52 years into being a spirit, and in 1744 he’s 32 years in. Jack also exists in the books but during tooth’s book he’s very much not named jack, is very much not human, and is very much friends with the guardians.
So basically it doesn’t work lmao why am I surprised.

First, Dreamworks uses new animation styles for two of their films, which inspired after Spider-verse directed by Peter Ramsey.
Then, Disney hires Chris Pine to voice the villain in their newest movie, Wish. To which his villain song fits almost perfectly to how Jack Frost would've been like if he became a villain.
And finally, Chris Pine also starred in D&D: Honor Among Thieves, Jude Law is starring as young Dumbledore, Dreamworks still works with Alec Baldwin for Boss Baby and Hugh Jackman in making a grand return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3.
At this point, I'm not reading too much into it. The universe is trying to tell Dreamworks to give Rise of the Guardians a sequel.

I'm working on my own AMV as we speak 😂
I just learn that Chris Pine is voicing in the new Disney's Wish and he has a song and now all I'm imagining is Jack Frost singing. ROTG fans please do your magic!

Going more in depth, what I love about this scene is the fact that her saying, "in every other universe, Gwen Stacy falls for Spider-Man," is her acknowledging that she does have feelings for him. But then she sees his hand move and adds, "and in every other universe, it doesn't end well."
This is her putting up that boundary as well as her telling Miles that they'll both only get hurt if they try.
And Miles completely respects that. As well as adding, "Well, there's a first time for everything, right?" That's him telling her that he is still willing to try. And the action of him not going for her hand is him expressing how he'll wait for her to take the first step when she may be ready to try as well.
And her shoulder touch is her saying how she appreciates that.
All of this shows just how subtle you can make dialogue with simple facial expressions as well as how well these characters understand each other and their body language.
I focking love this movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her face when she sees Miles’ hand reaching for hers…because she wants to reach back and can’t with the way Spidey and Gwen don’t mix well

But she can’t help going for the shoulder touch anyway

These is the best pictures of her I could find. Her Frozen 2 pic is an advertisement pic for her cardboard cutouts and I figure they would give her the cleanest lighting for that.
Her hair is still very much platinum blond after getting the white dress. It just seems to have gone from lemon yellowy to peach yellowy. Though that may just be the difference in animation quality because from my pov, her hair is the same throughout Frozen 2. Plus her skin tone is also more pink along with her hair.
Elsa's hair turn pure white after her Fifth Spirit transformation or is it just my bad eyesight?
Elsa's hair is very light so it reflects colors around it and changes ever so slightly depending on the lighting of the scene. This means that you could be seeing Elsa's hair look more white because as the Fifth Spririt, she wears white and is typically shown in white/bright lighting so that is what's reflecting on her hair.
I tried to see if I could do a comparison, but it's fairly difficult to get a clear image because within the film, and even in promotional artwork, the lighting tends to affect her hair color. The best way to compare her hair color is to use animation tests, but this is also an issue because I haven't seen any of Elsa in the Fifth Spirit Dress.
If anyone is way more talented than me and wants to tackle Elsa's hair color comparison, please do haha.

They weren't actively trying to "get rid of" Pitch. They were just trying stop him. Hence why they let his own nightmares take him away rather than making sure he was gone by doing the job themselves.
They've known from the beginning that they can't get rid of him since there will always be fear. Pitch says as much at the end of the film and the guardians don't bat an eye. Rather North retorting with how they'll always be there to fight fear. Not destroy fear, fight it.
They were never trying to get rid of fear, just stopping Pitch from hurting people by giving them too much of it and conquering the planet.
The only one who thought that Pitch was gone and couldn't come back was Bunny at the beginning of the film. Tooth and Sandy never doubted the possibility of Pitch coming back. The only one who did was Bunny. And that's because he's (is insinuated to be) the newest guardian before Jack. Hence he doesn't know all the details about how things work yet. Like how he didn't know the big crystal was for choosing guardians until North stated so.
One thing I hated about ROTG, they kept trying to get rid of Pitch instead of stop him. Kids need fear so they can learn and grow. They need fear so they don't do stupid of dangerous things. They need fear so they can make the right decisions. Without fear, they would be reckless, lie, and do so many stupid things that would hurt or kill them just because they can.

... I'm the one resorting to insults?
Tumblr media
I've had this conversation before, I know what you're doing. You trying to get a rise out of me so I'll freak out and make you look like the bigger person despite the fact that most of your reply is just the repeating your reasonings with no new 'explanations' like I predicted you would do. (Thus just comes to show how you're not paying attention to everything I wrote. You fell right into it).
So I shall explain myself calmly and clearly;
You're the one who said my arguments are invalid. You're the one who said I was grasping at straws and that I don't understand the characters. You're the one accusing me of trying to tear down a ship and its entire fan base. And you were the one who so proudly went into the comments to gloat about how you refuted my arguments.
Tumblr media
And I'm not "resorting to foul language." You ever stop to think that maybe some people just cuss by nature. I just write how I speak.
The only things I said that are insults is how you pulled facts out of your ass (which you did), how you're grasping at dust particles, and how I feel like I need to speak to you like a toddler to explain everything thoroughly. Everything else I said are just the conclusions I came to based on what you said/did. My statements are not baseless here.
You claim I'm dismissing others opinions and then you straight up ignore my explanations to double down your old reasonings without anything really new to add. That's not a discussion or debate, that's you trying to repeat yourself until I give up.
When I say that I've studied these characters for years, I am not invalidating other people's opinions on them, I'm just explaining that maybe they should take my opinion into account as well.
Me saying that I loathe the jelsa ship is not me "tearing it down," it's just me stating my opinion. Which is the very first thing you said you appreciate in this very reply.
I've stated multiple times now that I do not care if you ship it and that ships do not need to be justified. And yet you insist that I'm trying to tear it down on a post that's only explaining why jelsa is a crack ship and how toxic it's gotten. Not to mention how I "go on to claim how jelsa had a negative impact on the big four fandom, but you just don't see how that's true." Meanwhile there are a number of ex-big four fans who have posted on various sites about how the reason they left was because of how toxic the shipping got after jelsa joined the mix. You're going on your own personal bubble of experience, meanwhile I'm actually doing the research.
Just as an example from another quick rant post I had made a few years back (check the comments and reblogs as well)
I understand that all fandoms have toxic fans but different fanbases can have a differing number of them and jelsa has them at excess. It is extremely hard to find nice jelsa shippers, it's like trying to find a four leaf clover. And the only time I get really angry in my original analysis is when I'm getting emotional over the fact that a majority of jelsa shippers are being homophobic or telling other people to commit die for not shipping it.
See, we've gotten to the point where I feel like I need to explain myself more than explain the jelsa ship that this was originally about, because of your baseless accusations that you hide in between your repeating arguments. It's the manipulation tactics for me.
Even if you reblog again, I'm not going to bother. I give up with you.
Tumblr media
Why Jelsa is Ridiculously Stupid
Let me start off by saying that the idea of this ship was cute at first, I have nothing against it. In fact I have a few ships myself that have nothing to back them up. I am not making this to convince people to be anti, stop the ship itself, or spread any form of hate what so ever.
But this Jelsa fandom has gone too far. And when I say "jelsa shippers," of course I don't mean ALL of them, just about 80% of them.
In fact, I'm very appreciative of the few jelsa shippers who don't go around harassing others because "jelsa is life."
Also, allow me to correct you in saying that I'm not a jelsa hater, I'm a jelsa loather. There's a difference. Most jelsa haters, hate jelsa for the sake of hating it.
I genuinely hate it.
And don't go commenting about, "how do you know you don't like it if you've never tried it?" Because you see, that's where you're wrong. I did used to ship it, when I was 11. I was a child, I was new to the internet, I didn't know better. But I do now!
I am writing this so that some who may not know, will now understand why jelsa is bad and because I need to get all of this out of my system. I am slowly dieing inside.
First; I'm gonna go into how all the excuses to ship this are pointless. Next, I'll talk about just how these two would never work out as a couple. Then, will be what the toxicity has done to not just to the ship itself, but to the big four as well. And finally, I'll go into how uncreative the shippers are and just what horrible/stupid things they've done and are still doing.
1) Excuses are Pointless
Excuse #1: They have the same powers.
...Yeah, that's like saying you ship Lavagirl (Sharboy and Lavagirl) and Bolin (LoK) because they can both control lava. That's not a valid reason to ship anyone. There needs to be actual substance and I'll only say that once because that sentence applies to every excuse here.
Excuse #2: They look alike
🤦🤦🤦 First of all: that's also like saying you ship Tiana (Princess and the Frog) and Frozone (The Incredibles) because they're both black. Second of all: no they don't. It may be because I'm an artist so I notice small details, but here's how it is; Jack's hair is white, Elsa's is platinum blonde. Jack has a square chin, Elsa has a round face. Jack is much paler! THEIR EYES AREN'T EVEN THE SAME SHADE OF BLUE!!! Your excuse is null and void. Even so, if characters do look alike, then they're most likely to be related. Especially in animation.
Excuse #3: Jack can teach Elsa to have fun and Elsa can teach Jack to be serious
Tumblr media
This clearly proves the point that jelsa shippers don't know these characters. The job of teaching Elsa how to be social and have fun is already taken by Anna. So if anything, Elsa will see Jack as a younger brother. And Jack wouldn't have been chosen to take on such a responsibility of guardianship if he didn't know when to quit. I don't know what it is about playful characters that make people think they're obnoxious. Jack is an immortal teenager with the heart of a child, that's what makes him a good guardian. But he's been alive for over 300 years, he bound to have the mind capacity of an adult and he does know better. He doesn't play when he's in battle, he's dead serious.
Excuse #4: They understand each other because they were both isolated for a long time
I don't know where you come from but people don't really "bond" over their trauma. Infact, if anything, that would make the relationship more unstable. Plus, Elsa isolated herself for 13 years because she was afraid of her powers. Jack was forced into isolation for 300 years! He has never been afraid of his powers and Elsa could still be seen throughout the day by parents and servants. They would never be able understand what the other went through.
Excuse #5: They both have a sister they love
SO WHAT?! At least half of the population have sisters. Simple as that. It's a horrible excuse.
Excuse #6: They both have an enemy in fear
Bruh, almost every fictional character has to deal with their fears, literal or mental. It's not at all unique to these two.
Excuse #7: Jack can teach Elsa to control her powers
She already has control of them by the end of the movie. And even if you mean prier to that, the reason she couldn't control them was because she feared them. I doubt that even if she could see him and if he showed her his powers, she's be irrational, believing that their powers were different.
Excuse #8: William Joyce says he ships it
Really, you're going to base the possibility of a ship because the writer of the 'books' that "inspired" rotg says he likes it. First: the books and movie are not the same worlds. Two: he most likely stated this in order for jelsa shippers to shut up to him about it. And three: his own canon with the books is a mess as it is. With him adding a bunch on random/unnecessary details on twitter that have no relevance or reference in the books. Even if he does ship it, everything that's going on with Jack's character in the books is weird enough as it is. Plus he's physically 14 in the books. I know age doesn't really matter but Elsa would definitely feel weird about dating someone who looks so young when she's currently 24 by the second movie.
Excuse #9: They could've met before the events of rotg
Not a reason to ship them but whatever 🙄 Even if their stories were based in the same world (which it isn't), Elsa never would've believed in fairy tales. Having to grow up so soon and all. She believes in magic, of course, but you need to believe in the individuals themselves in order to see them. Plus it is very clear in rotg that Jamie is Jack's first believer.
Excuse #10: Now that Frozen 2 is out, they are both spirits who followed the memories of their loved ones. They can live forever together!
Once AGAIN, how does this factor to them being a good couple? Plus the title of spirit is different in the Frozen-verse than the Guardian-verse. Guardian-verse; they are un-aging beings who keep the entire world in balance. Frozen-verse; never confirmed to be immortal (especially since 3 out of 5 spirits are inanimate objects), magical things that keep a single forest secure. The only reason the elements needed a fifth spirit was most likely because the one before Elsa died of old age. Plus the idea of Elsa outliving Anna goes against the theme of sisterly love that both movies strive on. This can be changed in fanfiction but I hate how people lie about her mortality for an excuse to ship.
Excuse #11: They're both single
So what? People ship characters who aren't single with other characters all the time. That's not a reason to ship them. Especially since your statement is false because Tooth is Jack's canon love interest.
It is true that jelsa haters will give reasons to not ship that I necessarily don't agree with.
•Like the age gap — Jack has the mental capacity of an adult, as I've said before. He's smart enough to make his own choices.
•Elsa not being immortal — that doesn't mean they can't still date, even if he outlives her. Plus you can change that in fanfiction.
•They come from different studios and will never be canon — Again, this is fanfiction, we can do whatever we want.
•Elsa is independent and shipping her with someone takes her independence away — for one: most of the world is bound to find love at some point in time. I would imagine that Elsa would want to find love like her sister. Two: Mulan, Pocahontas and Jasmine are very independent and they all still ended up with men. Three: she's not that independent to begin with. Independence isn't relationship status, it's your ability to make it on your own and Elsa is clearly, very dependant on Anna and her safety. Which is actually what pushes her to being a bad sister in Frozen 2. In fact it is because they made her more 'independant' in the sequel that Elsa clearly, no longer loves Anna as much as Anna loves her (you can check out Watso Videos' video on YouTube about how Elsa is a bad sister bc I'm not gonna go into it here).
My god that was ALL just part one. This is gonna take forever 😰
2) How they would never work out
For Elsa, she needs someone who is calm and collected. A rock for her to stand on when she's being irrational. Possibly even someone who is very stoic and straight to the point but with enough sense of humor to lighten the mood. And now that I'm thinking about it, Honeymaren fits that description to a tee. I'm not one to push LGBT+ in anyone's face, but I'm not gonna judge ships on characters assumed sexualities either. Even though Honeymaren didn't have much screen time, her personality still showed through and Elsamaren could very well work.
Jack on the other hand needs someone who would be able to keep up with his playful nature as well as be a rock for him to stand on when he's emotional. Tooth is a good suitor even though I don't really ship it myself. Hiccup, Merida and Rapunzel could also fit in this description.
They don't have the ability to be each other's rocks. They can't be stable if they both need someone to keep them so. If they were to date, the relationship would crumble before it even began.
Plus Jack has to be a guardian and there are a lot of fanfics that go into this idea of Jack being the king of Arendalle? First off: I'm fairly certain that you can't marry into royalty to become king. At least in the real world. Second: Jack wouldn't be able to handle that responsibility with him already being a guardian. And he can't just leave guardianship either, it was what he always was and was ment to be. And Elsa has the responsibility of keeping a magical forest in check, she can't leave to become a guardian.
3) The Toxicity
Oh my God! The fanfiction! As I usually say, you can do whatever you want in fanfiction. But if you have to butcher all the characters so much in EVERY fanfic in order to make the ship work, then there's clearly something wrong here! In every fanfic I've ever seen, the characters are so out of character it's insane. Not just Jack and Elsa, every character.
Olaf for example, is practically in love with Jack first meeting, in every fanfic. If he were to actually meet Jack, he would be apprehensive of him.
It's horrifying in not only that, but jelsa shippers will add Rapunzel a lot, just in spite of Jackunzel. They turn Rapunzel into a needy ex-girlfriend of Jack's when in reality, she's a very sweet and kind soul. Even if she and Jack had dated, they would've split on good terms and stayed friends after. There have also been cases where they do the same but with Tooth. Sometimes even both and it's honestly sick.
And let's talk about the sexism as well HAHA! I swear to God, they will rewrite Frozen but where Jack will save Elsa instead of Anna. They write Elsa as a hormonal teenage girl who falls in love with Jack within seconds.
Tumblr media
This is from an actual jelsa shipper, my dude. WTF!!! They make Jack super dominant as well as a douche who cheats on Elsa half the time. Jack is not that dominant, he's a very emotional guy. And he'd be the most faithful boyfriend on the planet. He was alone for 300 years! If anything, he'd be clingy but not too clingy because he also understands personal space.
And if you like angsty fanfiction where a character cheats on the other, there are literally no fanfics where Elsa cheats on Jack. As if a woman couldn't possibly cheat. This is very sexist towards men and women and is toxic as hell.
If anything, Elsa would cheat on Jack, she's not exactly trustworthy in keeping promises or being loyal.
I swear, half of the jelsa shippers has never even seen rotg and just go by what they read in others fanfiction.
Jelsa shippers have gotten so bad about this ship that they've low-key harassed people for not shipping it, as well as start shipping wars within the big four fandom. That's the reason the fandom truly shrunk after 2013. I've seen posts about people admitting to leaving the fandom because it got so bad.
4) The Shippers
Jelsa shippers have literally threatened lives, not just to other fans but even to the creators of the movies. Literally threatening them into making the ship canon. They've made patitions to make it canon as if that would work. They've even harassed a lot of recent shippers to Elsamaren because "jelsa is canon."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh look at that, they're homophobic too...
...
...
...
... That's great 🙃
Isn't it a bigger sin to love a celestial being though? Therefore the fact that you –as a toxic christian– ship Elsa with a spirit it worse.
THEY'RE DELUSIONAL!!! So many of them have shipped jelsa so long that legit think it's canon!
Not only all that mess but there are literally more jelsa games on the internet then there are Merida games. I'm specifying this for personal reasons (aka Merida is my fave Disney princess)
And let's continue on with what really aggravates me as an artist. Jelsa shippers, stealing artwork, mostly from Jackunzel. This is not just a rumor, it's very much real.
Tumblr media
And it doesn't help when all of their actual original fanart is just them taking scenes from Frozen and adding Jack. Then to add more salt on the wound is that almost all the fanfiction is the same, whether it'd be based during Frozen, rotg or in a highschool au.
There's literally nothing original about or going on with this ship, even after Frozen 2 came out, the shippers and fanfiction haven't changed. If anything it made the shippers spike up again.
The only thing that could say is original about jelsa is the frost daughter fanon. Oh boy! What we have to unpack here.
This is something that I recently heard about...
...
I am mortified.
Frost daughters is this little thing that jelsa shippers came up with, believing Jack and Elsa (if they could get pregnant) would have nothing but girls. What's scary about it is they're designs. Like they're trying to be original... But it's not really going great.
Most of them are just young!Elsa copies, some are edits of Elsa with Jack's hair color.
For example:
Tumblr media
This is fine, this follows genetrical rules. I'm fine with this.
But what has me low-key petrified are some of the other designs.
Tumblr media
Like... WTF IS ALL OF THIS!!! Where are this colors coming from?!! I don't understand 😭 You can see in the screen shots that these are literally titled as daughters of jelsa.
Tumblr media
The white haired ones are fine. The ginger is understandable. Got it from Elsa's dad's genes. That's okay. A few are wearing pink? They can wear what ever they want. But wtf I'd going on with Nevada? Why is she black? Jack and Elsa the pastiest of white! And you cannot tell me that she got it from Elsa's mom because this was made BEFORE Frozen 2 and her mother is still white as an adult.
Tumblr media
Where tf does the blue and pink hair come from? None of these make sense!
I want to kill myself, just looking at these!
That's gonna be the end of this rant
Now I'll say it again, I really have nothing against the ship itself. I too have casual ships that make no sense. But with ALL the fanfiction and fanart being so unoriginal and most jelsa shippers low-key being dangerous, it's hard for me respect people's opinions about it.
I try, trust me, I do! But it's become so murky in my brain that I can't tell the difference anymore and I'm also just not a fan of Elsa's character in general. And I like ships that actually make sense.
And being that I'm an equalist... it's really hard for me to look at this stuff and not get pissed off. I'm sorry if all of this comes off as aggressive because it kinda is.
I'm just very passionate, okay?
I hope you understand where I'm coming from. None of the pictures I used are mine. And I hope you have a good day?

Rotbtd as students on the Boiling Isles Art
In the future I might work on an alternate au of rotbtd as owl house characters like Rapunzel as Luz or Jack as Hunter and Pitch as Belos.
I just kinda wanted to do them if they were witches and what kinds of magic they'd probably study. As well as what their palisman would look like.
Let me tell you it was a bitch getting their hair to look right in this art style.
Tumblr media
He'd clearly focus most on ice magic but since that's not a class track, I can see him signing up for illusions. Along with Oracle in reference to how he has the power to make people feel joyful in rotg.
I did a voting poll, and snowy owl won for his palisman by a landslide. I can see him naming her Snowflake or Joy. I also designed her staff form to look like a nesting doll, also in reference to rotg. And the top of the staff where palisman rest can look different. So if Jack carved her himself, then it's possible he carved the staff to have the hook as well.
Tumblr media
I decided to play with which schools they'd go to and have Hiccup be from Glandus High. Since the only description we have of it being that "if you want respect you have to take it." It feels very similar to Berk's "kill or be killed" philosophy. And of course, Hiccup is in the beast keeping and construction tracks.
Of course Toothless in his found palisman and look; he made Toothless a little prosthetic foot. The palisman are very similar to regular animals but they're almost never one-to-one exact so he has four ears to look like his ear nubs in the original.
I should probably also note here that everyone is 17-18 years old in this au.
Tumblr media
She'd definitely be the one who is in almost every track. The only ones she's not in are illusions and construction. Just because I don't think she'd be super into those tracks compared to the others. And let me tell you, it took me way too long of figuring out what color patterns her uniform would be before I realized the colors make a rainbow. And since it seems that hair and eye color can be almost any color on the Boiling Isles, I thought I'd give some variety by giving her purple eyes.
For Pascal, I gave him the design he has in an episode of Tangled the Series season 3, where he temporarily had dragon features.
Tumblr media
Her mom definitely forced her to go to the prestigious school of St. Epiderm. In the plants, beast keeping and potions tracks (the gem on her chest is yellow.) I made her eyes such a light shade of teal, not only to further differ from Jack's blue, but also just to make her look less human since her ears are mostly covered
She also definitely carved her own palisman, say hello to little Mor'du. If you can't tell his design is heavily inspired by the little wooden bear kids from Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs.

Why do so many people think Toothless bit off Hiccup's leg in the explosion? I can't wrap my head around it because it just doesn't make sense.
If Toothless bit off or even clawed off Hiccup's leg then Hiccup would've been bleeding out by the time Stoick found him. If that were the case then Hiccup was still in the position of dying yet Gobber just makes a joke about how "most of him" was saved? No, they would've been panicked and rushing to patch him up.
And look at this
Tumblr media
Toothless is reaching out with his ARMS to catch Hiccup and his mouth was closed the closer he got.
I feel like it's pretty obvious that Hiccup's foot was just severely burned. Therefore it was already cauterized and Stoick nor Gobber had to rush to make sure he didn't bleed out.
That's what Hiccup means in httyd2 when he tells Valka that Toothless couldn't save all of him. Not because he bit off his leg to catch him (which, how would the logistics of that maneuver even work?) He just didn't manage to cover it from the fire in time.

Jack was invisible to humans and it's accentuated through Bunny that other spirits didn't like him. He was utterly and completely alone for three centuries. I've looked a little into what isolation can do to people and most people would've literally gone insane within the first year, let alone take it out on the other spirits who could've helped him and chose not to.
Jack's shear willpower is the only reason he hasn't, unless he had a friend behind the scenes that we just never saw in the film for some reason.
This is part of the reason why I think the wind isn't actually a living entity like most people assume (or if that's what's shown in the books). The way Jack spoke to the wind in that singular scene felt more like Jack was pretending it was alive so he didn't feel so alone.

I've been on a rwby fix for the past few weeks for some reason so I took it upon myself to completely remake my OC team from over 4 years ago.
These characters are based on mythical creatures and thematic colors take after the colors that bamboo can be. While not completely accurate, bamboo can have blue-ish, yellow-ish and brown coloring and when they grow flowers, those flowers tend to have a pink-ish color. And just to double down, the school they go to could have green uniforms, to really finish off the bamboo aesthetic.
Briar Begonia (her/she)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Color: Blush
Weapon: "Death Song" a flute/spear/sniper rifle
Semblance: Water transformation (can turn into water to avoid attacks and slip through small spaces)
Myth: Kitsune (Japanese fox spirit)
The leader of team BMBU is an Arctic fox Faunus using the weapon of her fallen mother and was raised by her now dying aunt (cancer). No one else knows who her father is, nor how he and her mother died when she was a baby. All anyone knows is that she got a scar on her eyelid from the event. Briar can tend to be spunky and puny but disassociates herself in art and fiction so much that she's starting to confuse it with how things work in reality. Her fighting style is similar to a ninja/assassin; sneaky and evasive. While she can hold her own in direct hand-to-hand combat, it's not her most developed technique. Kinda like Ty Lee from atla. While she mainly wants to be a huntress because her mother was, it's also because she wants to find out what happened to both of her parents since they went MIA and whatever mission her mother went on is the only clue she has. She also has a locket with a picture of her mom in it to always remind her of what she's doing this for.
Maize Jonquil (she/her)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Color: Marigold
Weapon: "Angelic Quietus" a jetpack/wings of blades
Semblance: X-ray and thermal vision
Myth: Fallen Angel
From a family that's very well known for making and developing some of the best weaponry on Remnant and that family consisting of 2 parents, 2 older brothers and 1 older sister. They have a rare hereditary semblance: phantom wings that allow them to fly for short periods of time. Because Maize has a different semblance, she's kinda been ostracized by the public. This, along with the family business having a long history of harsh Faunus labor, has made it so that she's been trying to separate herself from the family name. While at the same time, basing her weapon on her family's semblance because of how she's been envious about it for most of her life. That and the fact that she still loves them and her parents themselves are trying to make up for their family's past sins. Back when she was a kid and trying to conform to rich society's standards, she had taken ballet classes. And although she hated them, she now uses those skills in her fighting style. Bonus; because she uses a very large weapon, she may be small but she's much stronger than she looks.
Basil Denim (she/her)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Color: Blue
Weapon: "Cutlass Arbalest" arm blades/bow and arrow
Semblance: Soundwaves (can create concussive blasts at body movement, usually through punching)
Myth: Werewolf
Born and raised in a town outside of the kingdoms, near the water, she's heavily tomboy and a little weird but she takes pride in being both. She's hardcore but can be very emotional and tries to be nice to people. But if you're rude to her or her friends, she will not hesitate to return the favor. She's super into music/DJing but because her semblance makes a lot of loud noise, she is really hearing impaired. So the headphones she wears also double as hearing aids. Basil has practically been training since birth to be a fighter, with both of her parents being huntsmen. They never pushed her to be one, but Basil herself wants to help people just like them. Her mother being a brawler and her dad being a bow user, of course both she and her older sister adapted a mix of the two. Unfortunately, her father is now DIA from a Grimm attack, which will later start the plot of her discovering that she has the ability to turn into a Grimm because her dad used to be part of this secret clan of people, called Lycan, who have this ability.
Unbriel Mocha (they/them)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Color: Umber
Weapon: "Scorching Scourge" two fire swords/whips
Semblance: Reading and Manipulating emotions (like Mantis in the MCU)
Myth: Siren
This one will have a little trigger warning***
Having been raised on a fishing boat, their family (consisting of a mother, an uncle and three cousins) were the best in the fishing business because they all consisted of water animal Faunus, Unbriel being a shark. That was until the day a boat of human fishermen pulled up and beat them to a pulp for daring to 'fish in their waters and steal their job.' Thus going so far as to dismember Unbriel by cutting of their back fin and severely hurting up the rest of the family in similar ways. They all eventually washed up on shore and were found by Basil and her family. Their mom and uncle were crippled and the cousins immediately left for Menagerie without even saying goodbye. Uncle eventually left to follow and find them but Unbriel and their mom got help and were housed by Basil's family. So they and Basil have known each other since they were 12. It's because of this event that Unbriel is very untrusting of people, often comes across as emotionless, and doesn't flaunt the fact that they are a Faunus. Though because they is a shark Faunus, they is literally cold blooded and needs to wear more clothes to stay warm. Hence why Umbriel has a leather jacket and turtle neck, for those of you who understand how sweat inducing that would be otherwise.
This last bit is just a height comparison to give y'all an idea of what they all look like next to eachother

Rewriting&Redesigning Dragons: the Nine Realms — Part 4/4
D’Angelo Baker
Tumblr media
There’s not much to say about the choices I made with his redesign other than how I wanted him to look like more than just a basic army brat. I did take reference from Snotlout in terms of his body’s physique.
Plowhorn
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I actually really liked the original design of the Gembreakers. I’m just thinking that, realistically, it just doesn’t make much sense for them to have giant crystal looking spikes/horns unless their skeletons looked like that as well. Which it wouldn’t because we see dragon bones all the time and they look like the bones of any other creature on Earth, not like crystals. So I made the horn look like actual bone and made the rest of the design lean more towards a beetle.
I also wanted to make it’s wings more insect-like but I didn’t want to just straight up give her insect wings since all dragon wings look like bat wings in the httyd world, no exceptions. So instead I made it so that Gembreakers have multiple small wings, so they flap very fast and give off the impression of insect wings.
Alex Gonzalez
Tumblr media
I just feel like this outfit gives off a more gamer/hacker vibe as well as it being cute. The detailing on her jeans and crop top is her own stitching. I did make her chunky, because realistically, she’s been inside all day everyday for years and with how often her moms seem to make her cookies, I would expect her to have some extra weight.
I should point out that I do understand that curly hair can be hard to model for animation this low budget but I think she just looks really good with curly bangs and I think I know a cheat code. Just copy and paste Gratuity Tucci’s bangs from Home. It’s a Dreamworks movie, so they have access to her model. I even straight up traced her bangs in this drawing just to prove my point.
Feathers / Pluma
Tumblr media
I figured her design could be one where she looks scary but is actually very innocent. And keeping the Quetzalcoatl design aspect in mind, my brain immediately thought of the Slitherwing. Like maybe Feathers/Pluma could be a breed of dragon that’s a cousin to the Slitherwing, similer to Night Furies and Woolly Howls. Now I know these species’ haven’t been confirmed to be cousins but still.
Main differences between the Slitherwing and Featherhide here is that Pluma has feathers in place of poison and can mimic/sound-blast in place of venom-spit.
Also having a scarier design would help make Alex’s instant fear more understandable at first glance, since canon Feathers is just cute. And because my redesign now looks so much like a Slitherwing, on first viewing the audience would be worried about the poison Slitherwings have, until it’s revealed to have feathers instead of poison. A little bit of a subversion.
Eugene / August
Tumblr media
I really wanted to give him this feel that he was like an Instagram or Tiktok fashion designer. That could even be a part of his character, maybe he and Jun bond over art and he helps her design the dragon armor later on.
Now I know I said that having loose clothing will look really bad in cheap 3D animation but listen; his clothes are not that loose and I made sure to frame his loose sleeves so they’d at least look okay within this show. And you can model wrinkles into the clothes even if they don’t move. Therefore giving the illusion of realistic cloth even though you’re not actually animating it like that. I also made it so that his pants would give some of that big boot silhouette without being bellbottoms and I didn’t make his shoes big as well —like I did with Olivia— as to kind of throw off the audience who'd notice, on whether or not he’d join dragon club.
You may notice that there are some similarities between his and Jun’s designs. They both wear thin sweaters (under August’s silk shirt), have circle necklaces and circle belt buckles. But with the clips of their buckles are on opposite sides from each other, as to kinda showcase the fact that they’re biological siblings but have animosities.
(Also note; I know the way his silk shirt shines is not how it would look in the final animation. That’s just the one creative liberty I took to make sure you would be able to tell it’s shiny in this art.)
Monstrous Nightmare
In regards to August's dragon, I think he'd name it Scorch. Original, I know but you know what? These names for the dragons on on the same level of Toothless being named Toothless simply because his teeth can retract.
I'd also color Scorch to be similar to the titan wing from rtte. Not exactly but very similar.
Tumblr media
Other adults
I was originally going to redesign them as well since their designs wouldn’t have that many changes aside from better body proportions and maybe different hair. Along with Johann having modern clothes and Dr. Sledkin having a black or silver Rakke uniform. But it’s taken me two weeks just to make the pics that I finished and I have no more energy to make more. Maybe later on in life I’ll find the energy to do so and I’ll reblog this with those designs but for now I’m done.

Rewriting&Redesigning Dragons: the Nine Realms — Part 3/4
Before we get to the specific characters I wanna address an aspect of the designs that all of the characters share. It was apparent in the nine realms designs that they were trying to replicate the silhouette of the original httyd characters and how they had large boots. Unfortunately, due to the choices they made with that, it just makes the new characters look like they have massive calves and giant feet, which was not the case for the original httyd characters. There have been multiple moments in the series’ where they don’t wear shoes and they very much have regular sized feet. So I decided that when applying the big boot silhouette in these redesigns, I’ll do so in a similar vein to how the adults and teenagers had different accents in the og movie to signify the difference in generations.
Instead of trying to force the silhouette onto every single character, only those who connect with dragons will have this aspect of large circumference around their lower legs. Signifying the difference between the dragon friends and dragon foes.
Also I did make sure that the riders shared similar colors to their dragons like they do in rtte.
And when it comes to the animation, I personally would’ve had them do Flash animation like Tangled the Series or Wild Krats. Not only because it would give this show a unique 2D style but because it’s even cheaper than regular 3D animation while still being able to look pretty. But if they couldn’t or just straight up refused to do that, I drew these new designs in a way so that it would look exactly like the rushed 3D animation they chose. Therefore we’d have an idea on how EXACTLY they’d look in the final product.
So to make sure the designs look good with this animation, I took a page out of Miraculous Ladybug’s book and made all of their clothes nearly skin tight. Because animating loose clothing can be very hard and when the quality is this low, then it’s just gonna look like stiff plastic. You ever notice how Tom and Jun’s hoodies never wrinkle or move like cloth? Exactly.
Tom / Erik Kullersen
Tumblr media
Going into Tom/Erik’s redesign, I decided to keep his face and hair mostly the same. I don’t mind how they gave him an undercut since so many boys have that today but I wasn’t really a fan of just how short they made it in the back compared to the front. So I did draw this in a way so that it would look like it was at least a little longer in the back. Since his features pull more from Astrid, I changed his eyes to look more like Hiccup’s. Kinda to symbolize his disconnect from dragons before he warms up to them like Astrid did.
I chose to keep him in mainly blue and white since those are Thunder’s main colors and I also added a little purple to him and Thunder as well. And the pins on his shirt are from the forging, sword fighting, etc, classes he took. Which I will add that I also made sure to draw his muscles to be thicker due to those classes.
Thunder
Tumblr media
Literally just take Toothless’ model from Riders of Berk, make him light gray and everyone would’ve accepted it. It’s clear that the creators of Nine Realms thought that it would’ve made them seem more ‘original’ by making all the models from scratch but in the process they just made Thunder look funky.
In terms of production, there were so many chances where they could’ve just reused models from the other shows and it wouldn’t have felt contrived at all as well as save money so they can work more on the story and quality. I already talked about how they could’ve just used Whispering Deaths and the Screaming Death in place of the Fault Ripper, Flamethrower (Fire Jackals) and Sky Torcher. Also deleting the Bubblehorn and I’m trading the Spider Wings with the Silkspanners. So that’s four dragon models that would’ve never been made and redistributing Toothless’ mold, which gives us more time to work on the models that we’re still using.
Again, I —and I’m sure everyone else— would’ve been satisfied if they just took Toothless’ model and made him light gray or even white. But like I said, with my version of things, we now have more time. And given how Thunder is explicitly part Skrill in my rewrite, I added more Skrill to his features to show this. Spikier back plates, different tail, longer claws and hooks on the wings. As well as coloring him so he has a bit of purple shimmer on his brow ridges like a Skrill.
Olivia Kullersen
Tumblr media
At first I was planning on designing her to look more like Hiccup, but then I felt she’d end up looking too much like Heather. So I also took heavy inspiration from Valka. Obviously she and Erik don’t look like these other characters purely because they’re descendants. Because after 1000-1300 years that’s literally impossible. For my designs, it’s meant to be more symbolic.
I also made it so that Project Icarus gives all of their workers uniforms. I don’t see why Olivia and May are just allowed to where whatever they want while all other workers don’t. They’d all be in uniform at least for professionalism’s sake.
I decided to go for the scientists uniforms being purple so that Olivia would match the Skrill and it’s purplish undertones. I also have it so that Olivia is the only adult who shows her shirt underneath her uniform and sleeves rolled up to kinda signify how she’s the only adult at the project that would open to learning about and helping dragons while the other adults are just there to help Rakke Corp exploit.
Jun Wong
Tumblr media
Yes, She looks completely different. Her necklace was the only thing from her original design that I liked.
And yes, I gave her bell bottom jeans. It gives her that big boot silhouette without literally giving her big boots. Gives her more personality than making it look like her calves reach her ankles.
I also modeled her ponytail in a specific way so that it would look natural no matter how much it may not move naturally in the final animation. The way it's modeled is very similar to Chloe's ponytail in Miraculous.
Axel (Long Glider)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When making Jun’s new dragon, like I stated in part 2, I knew I wanted to bring some asian dragon characteristics into it without making it obvious. I wanted to design something that had the general silhouette of a Chinese dragon and have it being related to water in some way.
Immediately my mind went to axolotls for inspiration. Something that’s long, wingless, has horns and looks like it has a mane. But since it has no wings, there’s gotta be a way for Jun to ride it within the fissure with the others, but how? Maybe it can climb along the rock walls with long claws. But Chinese dragons are also still able to fly, even without wings; so this dragon as the ability to stretch the extra skin along his torso to glide in the air. Very similar to a flying squirrel. In addition, he can extend his limbs to do so and his neck can as well, kinda like a turtle. That’s kinda just for cuteness sake.
Because it’s gotta be a tidal class dragon, it has the ability to live in and out of water like a Thunderdrum and instead of breathing ice or water, it intakes water and cools it within himself like a Scauldren but cold. It cools the water to near freezing so when he shoots it, it’s like this.
Tumblr media
So it’s not ice but thick slush. I figured that specifically would help make it feel more unique. Plus I feel it kinda fits in line with his ‘dummy’ personality.
I decided to call this dragon species a “Long Glider” since it glides and Lóng means dragon in Chinese.
The rest will be in Part 4

Rewriting&Redesigning Dragons: the Nine Realms — Part 2/4
Alex Gonzalez
She’s the only character in the show that’s amazing as is. Maybe what could first clue her into the fact that Erik and his mom are keeping something secret would be that Alex was checking over security footage she hacked into and sees how Olivia really deterrents the scientists from going near the cave that she had helped Erik find.
I should probably note; Olivia is the reason these scientists aren’t finding the dragons. She’s established to be a sweet talker in the first episode. So she’s able to reverse phycology these guys into searching in areas away from where the dragons are. And if any evidence are found on the Icarus drones, she’s able to swipe and delete them before anyone gets to see. Which Alex takes over the task of doing after she joins dragon club since she’s the hacker and to lighten Olivia’s load. She’s doing so much as it is.
I would also add things to Alex like her showing Erik the scar from when the dog bit her has a kid and how she’s into tech because her moms are engineers. (They never explain what her moms do, I kinda just assumed because they have uniforms while Olivia and May —the scientists— don’t.) Also note that she’s a killer gamer. And maybe she’s into sewing, so she likes to add decor to her clothes like Mirabel from Encanto. Alex didn’t go outside at all anyway so she’s gotta regulate her screen time somehow.
In fact I think that would be a great lead up into how they make the suits of armor.
Audrie Greywind also had the idea that in the post Skrill battle (which in this rewrite, would be the season 2 prologue), that instead of finding a random spearhead, they find Hiccup’s shoulder-pad from httyd3 instead. Because not only would it make for an actually good callback, but because it had the symbol and was made from Toothless’s scales. So it would’ve been the perfect confirmation that Erik’s ancestors knew Thunder’s in some way.
Erik and Alex could worked together to make the saddles because Erik’s the blacksmith and Alex is superior at sewing. But then when they find the shoulder-pad, this could immediately inspire Jun to design them all armor from their dragon’s molted skin (which the dragons shedding skin would be pointed out in an earlier episode, at random, when the find some in their cave — after all Olivia wants to study these things) and Erik + Alex would work together to make them.
The conversation would start with Jun suggesting to design these just for fun, not thinking much further from that. But then one of the others would immediately recognize that the suits would most likely help them explore the fire realm since their dragons are fire resistant. A convo like this would make this plot progression feel much more natural.
Also I should mention that this could symbolize how Erik and Alex would get together. I don’t really care too much about the shipping but if Erik has to be with anyone, I’d say Alex. Like I said, Jun just works more as a sister figure for Erik, especially in this rewrite. And I can easily see Erik and Alex having crushes on each other; Alex after Erik helps her with her PTSD and Erik after Alex gives him the inspirational talk in ‘Downpour.’
And I’m gonna put this here, the reason why Erik doesn’t tell the others about his heritage isn’t going to be “just because,” but rather that he’s just bad at communicating XD. It’s not that he’s a ‘lone wolf’ or whatever angst, he just jumps before he looks, including with information, and he just didn’t think to tell the others. Just like how he told Jun about his discovery without thinking about how she could’ve immediately ratted him out to Rakke Corp. Like I said, they’re dumb teenagers. Olivia can be the same way, like how when she chose to keep the dragons a secret from the corporation, she didn’t think about what could happen if she were discovered to have withheld and tampered with information. And the others aren’t going to get mad when they find out about his heritage, because why would they? They’re just kinda annoyed that “this has been the reason you were acting weird?”
D’Angelo: So you’ve been acting weird because you found out an ancestor from, like, a thousand years ago may have known a dragon?
Alex: And this would make you act weird because...?
Erik: Because they didn’t know some random dragon, they may have known Thunder’s ancestor specifically and... I don’t know, the chances are one in a billion of something like that happening, right?
Jun: Okay, I know you’re super proud about your heritage but isn’t that a bit of a stretch?
Alex: And you didn’t think to explain this to us beforehand, because...?
Erik: ... uh...
...
D’Angelo: Dude.
Eugene Wong
Remember when I said in Tom/Erik’s section that he’s one of two I changed names? Yeah, Eugene is the second. “Eugene” just doesn’t fit him and just felt super random compared to May and Jun. But then I thought of something; it almost seemed like the two women were named after months of the year specifically. That was most likely a coincidence —given that Jun’s name doesn’t have an E at the end— but still, I felt like that would be a cool angle to look at it. So in choosing a new name, I decided on “August.”
For the reasons why he acts the way he does, I believe could stem from his relationship with their father. Given that their dad is so close to Jun, maybe the reason why that was, was because their dad just couldn’t figure out how to connect with August. He’s not neglectful by any means, but because August isn’t into legends, cultures or history, the only way he feels he can compensate, is by giving August whatever he wants. And in turn, August has become a bit spoiled. But now he tries to get attention from strangers on the internet —via; Instagram or Tiktok— because he feels ignored by their dad (since he doesn’t know why his dad doesn’t really talk to him.)
I would also make it apparent that August was protective of Jun and that they were super close as kids but drifted apart as they got older because of August’s attention-seeking habits embarrassing Jun in public or at school and such.
After joining dragon club, he would be trying to make amends to Jun and I would even make an episode where he thinks that Jun romantically likes Erik. So he constantly tries to get them alone together or confess despite there being nothing to confess. It would all come to a conclusion when Jun finally takes August aside and yells at him because, at this point, she’s pissed off at the way he’s been acting all day. He’d then be sad and explain what he’s been doing and why, which would make Jun feel soft that he tried to do something for her, before explaining that she doesn’t see Erik that way.
Dragons
Instead of having Thunder’s arc being that he’s looking for other Nightlights, I would have him being half Skrill. I made a post about this being a theory of mine and I think it could make for Thunder getting a story similar to Heather and Dagur’s in rtte. The Skrill he fights could be like his half brother. There could be more Skrills that the Vikings didn’t know about, in the Hidden World (like maybe they went into hiding there after they were being hunted down.) And maybe because Thunder is part Light Fury, the Skrill’s kicked him out of their herd, so now they have beef with one another because of that. Maybe it could be Erik’s idea to go looking for the other dragons that he is mixed from (i.e. the Light Furies) but then he realizes that Thunder was never looking for a biological family because he made a family through dragon club. I think it would make for a very sweet arc, in learning that family doesn’t have to be blood.
For Jun’s dragon, I decided to make a whole new one. Because I’ll admit, giving the one asian girl a clearly asian dragon does feel a little weird. I do like the idea of dragons based on other cultures though, so I figured, I’ll make a dragon that has the general silhouette of a Chinese dragon and is related to water but literally everything else is off. Kinda like the Bubblehorn being the human’s inspiration for unicorns, except that it and the Spiderwing do not exist in this rewrite. Jun’s dragon will be an adorable dumbass though.
Plowhorn and Feathers basically stay the same except for somewhat different looks and I’d rename Feathers to be “Pluma.”
For the Skrill they fight, instead of it just walking away to never be seen again, I'd have so that Olivia wasn’t there for the fight but manages to track down the kids after she gets out of work and eventually help the injured Skrill and therefore bond with it. That way, she and Erik both have electric dragons. And through this, over the course of the story, Thunder and the Skrill would come to care for one another by the end. Again, kinda like Heather and Dagur.
Instead of August befriending a whole new dragon, I’d have him befriend the Monstrous Nightmare the riders used to test the fire suits. (Recolored, of course, so it’s not just a Fanghook copy.) And I will say they are NOT using Monstrous Nightmare gel to glue the suits together because no. Crushed up scales, dragon spit and stitches, that's all they need. Instead of the kids louring the dragon to their cave to test the suits, they do successful tests near the fire realm entrance and the then the dragon just gets excited and follows them out the cave because it wants more fish. Leave it at that.
Instead of the earthquakes being caused by a new dragon called the Fault Ripper, I’d have it be a herd of Whispering Deaths. It would’ve been an amazing call back and they do the exact same thing as the Fault Ripper except they actually have a reason to dig unlike the discount Shrek dragon. Because Olivia is in on the secret in this version, her plan to detonate bombs would actually be a cover up plan to attack and get rid of the Whispering Deaths, via the missiles. Erik isn’t going to feel bad about this because no. And then the season 3 finale (my version, season 2 finale), instead of yet another new large dragon for the final boss, we get a Screaming Death. What I would do is half way through season 2, have the kids discover a large egg that seems to have been abandoned and after it hatches, they choose to take care of the baby. Even as it starts to get really big. The dragons don’t like this baby dragon for some reason (except Jun’s dragon because he’s a sweet dumbass) but the riders ignore it. Until the two-part finale when part 1 has dragon club coming to realize that the baby dragon is an offspring of the Whispering Deaths they drove away and the ending leaves with the Whispering Deaths finally coming back after hearing the calls from the baby. Part 2 has the riders finding a way to reunite the Screaming Death with it’s mother.
It’s a multi set up and pay off that you can even save money with because you’d just be reusing the past models.
The way they brought in the Razorwhip was stupid. You want a dragon that can create a fire tornado, fit within the realm it resides in and make the battle even more riveting with other kinds of attacks? Literally would fix the entire thing by making the cameo be a Dramillion. It already had so little screen time in rtte, it would’ve been really nice to see.
Extra
Now you may be wondering, “where’s Dr. Sledkin and Buzzsaw in this?” Exactly... they doesn’t in this. Leonard’s so useless and so unthreatening that it’s hysterical. He’s literally the only aspect of this show that I wish would just die.
For Sledkin, I think I’d make her a redeemed character. It’s made apparent that she and Olivia knew each other back in the day and I would like to dive into that at some point. They knew each other in college. Sledkin was in the top of her class until Olivia came along and beat her at the game. Olivia obviously didn’t know this and doesn’t understand why Sledkin hates her but she hates her back for the way she’s now being treated. This goes on for years and the only reason Sledkin rose in the Rakke Corp ranks so quickly is because her uncle is at the top and helped her along. Once that happened, it’s been a handful of years since she’d seen Olivia until Project Icarus. And in those few years, she realized how childish she was and wants to try and make it up to Olivia. So she starts taking more of the hard-to-do assignments from Olivia so the mother can have more relax time, which unknowingly gives Olivia more free time with the dragons and kids but also takes away from Olivia being able to direct the scientists away from the dragons and puts them at more risk of being found. Because Sledkin's intentions aren't relayed to the audience yet, this makes Olivia and us think she’s doing this for selfish reasons. So she can try to take credit for any possible discoveries.
Then that would all come to a head in season 2 or 3 when Sledkin and Olivia are... doing fieldwork? I don’t remember what or why in the original. But because Leonard is no longer with us, I’d have this be the scene where they finally talk about why Sledkin has been taking so many assignments and how Olivia is angry about the grudge that she thinks Sledkin still has. This would be where it’s revealed to her and the audience that she thought Olivia was happy to have more time with Erik and was just trying to do something nice. This would make Olivia a bit more sympathetic towards her and agree to forgive her if she stops taking her assignments and communicate better, then maybe they could even be friends someday. If I had my way I’d even go so far as for Sledkin to have a crush on Olivia, but that’s more subjective. Idk they feel like an enemies to lovers trope, even in the canon show.
But with the redemption of Sledkin and the deletion of LeoNerd then what antagonist are we going to get? Just Rakke Corp's presence. That’s not gonna be interesting enough. Well, I have a batshit crazy idea that this show could do and I think no one would see coming while also leaving the audience floored.
Have Icarus scientists find the frozen body of Traitor Johann and discover him to still be alive.
Listen, I have even looked into this and no, it is virtually impossible to be frozen in time Captain America style. However, Johann was frozen instantly rather than over time and we have no idea what kind of substance’s are in the Bewilderbeast’s ice. Ice usually isn’t green after all.
If Johann were to come back, it would make for an actual tie in to the original franchise and could invoke consequences to Erik and Olivia being descendants of Hiccup. An actual narrative reason for them being descendants. If Johann were to find this information out as well as the fact that, even 1300 years later, they are still friends with dragons, he’d no doubt try to take revenge or even kill them. I think he’d figure out exactly what Rakke Corp wants and try to find a way to reveal the dragons in order for them to be exploited. Then he’d probably try to push Erik and Olivia into the fissure, to their deaths, but then they could be saved by the Screaming Death making its comeback. Or maybe its mother, in gratitude that they took care of and returned her baby. In similar vein to RttE when Hiccup and Snotlout were collecting Screaming Death scales and its mother stopped it from hurting Hiccup, for similar reasons.
Again, it’s a batshit crazy idea that I feel could really work in this series.
Now parts 3 + 4 will be the redesigns.

Rewriting&Redesigning Dragons: the Nine Realms — Part 1/4
I wrote this before season 4 came out and I still have yet to see it because I don't have Hulu our Peacock.
Now, I don't mind this show's existence or it's quality but if you've seen my previous posts here then you'd know that I like to redesign and analyze. This is going to be in four parts because the rewriting was just so long that I had to split it in half.
This rewrite will focus more on the characters themselves but I will address the plot and such throughout.
Some of these ideas are from Audrie Greywind's reviews of this show on YouTube. I'd recommend you check her videos out, they're a fun watch.
Tom Kullersen
There's only two characters here that I'm going to rename and Tom is one of them. Let's be real, it's just not a name for the protagonist for a httyd series. I ultimately ended up choosing “Erik.” I went looking through Icelandic and Norwegian names to find something that I felt would fit his character and could be a name from Berk while also fitting in the modern day setting. It is fairly simple as well but you gotta admit, Erik has much more personality for the name of a fictional character than TOM.
He doesn't really have much of a personality other than adventurous and kind. In the first episode he brings up the fact that they come from Vikings like he's proud of it but practically never brings it up again other than how his ancestors may be connected to dragons (which we already know they are so there's no suspense for us as viewers.) So I think we make that a large part of his personality. My version would have Erik being SUPER prideful in his heritage that he knows of all viking traditions, is practically fluent in runes, and even takes forging/blacksmithing and sword fighting classes. That way he'd gain some muscle and it would feel a little more believable that he'd be able to do all the physical action he does in the show. It could also explain how they get saddles and armor; instead of leaving the saddles unexplained and saying that Alex made the armor (because she's the smart one, I guess), it would be Erik who'd made them because he'd learned how to make this kind of stuff in his classes.
He would also be into science because he was raised by his well respected scientist mother.
One might say that this is feeling too in line with Hiccup as a character since he also forges, sword fights and is a scientist in his own right. But you know what? I'd rather have a Hiccup-replicate rather than generic protagonist for our main character. At least there's the difference in that, for Hiccup, forging and fighting was just his way of life but for Erik, he actively wanted to learn those things. Which would also give him more agency when the plot comes around to him learning about the significance of his ancestors being connected to dragons. Because we as the audience already know this information, the only way you could make it compelling is if the character is emotionally investing and by extension, makes us compelled to see him discover the past for himself. That’s why we reread/rewatch stuff, because even though we know what’s gonna happen, the journey to getting there is what reels us in.
Olivia Kullersen
Instead of her being one of the head scientists at Project Icarus, I would make it so that it was just a big earthquake that opened the fissure and Olivia —while a respected scientist among her colleagues— was just an average scientist in Rakke Corp’s eyes. Maybe in the past, she had discovered a new type of plant/mineral that Rakke Corp immediately exploited for profit while practically taking the credit for her discovery. So, Olivia holds a beef with the corporation but she still works for them because she's a single mother and needs the cash.
That way, we could break the cliché of "we can't tell any of our parents about this mythical secret" and have Olivia actually be in on the dragon secret.
Here me out...
We would do what Audrie says in her season 1 review and have it be so that Olivia is a respected enough scientist and a sweet talker, that she manages to convince the other scientists that her son can help on the project in some way. Then Erik sees something (Thunder) flying in the fissure, gets distracted and crashes a drone he was flying into a bunch of other drones, destroying them in the process and owing the company a lot of money for damages.
This will give the scientists a legitimate reason for not wanting Erik around as well as his drive to figure out what he saw in the fissure was so he can, not only prove his worth but pay off the money debt with the exploitation of his discovery.
Side note: Instead of establishing a school, only for it to never come into plot aside from one episode in season 2, this rewrite has them at Icarus during the summer and the room the kids are shown during the tour is more of an entertainment center so the kids will have stuff to do while their parents work. It would have stuff like books, board games, video games, art stuff, VR, etc. And to further establish how much of a sweet talker Olivia is as well as the fact that Erik knows blacksmithing/forging; after the tour, Philip Baker would direct Erik to another room in the facility that was made just for him to forge and weld because Olivia managed to convince the higher ups to make that room for Erik’s personal projects. That way, it can explain where they got the materials and equipment to make the saddles and armor later on.
Now, I think that instead of trying to replicate the way Toothless and Hiccup bonded with Tom/Erik and Thunder, we actually do a reverse. In the original, Hiccup wanted to learn more about Toothless but Toothless was displeased and annoyed by his presence for the most part.
Here, I would have Erik be the one who is reluctant on bonding with the dragon since he only went looking for it so he could sell it off to Rakke Corp. He feels horrible for disappointing his mom and wants to make it up to her by paying off the debt himself. In turn, Thunder would be the one who is super curious to learn about what this new wingless creature is. After all, in episode 3, Jun straight up points out how the dragons (at least most of them) are very friendly. It could be very likely that dragons have been in hiding for so long that they've forgotten how dangerous humans can be.
Much like how the dodo birds were easy to hunt down because they'd never had predators before humans killed them off.
So after Erik discovers Thunder, he takes a picture and immediately goes to tell his mom. After Olivia scolds him after being caught by Chief Baker, she's amazed at his discovery but also cautious. So she tells him to keep it on the down low until they can find the dragon again and study it. Erik asks why they can't just tell Rakke Corp so they can send a team down there and pay off their debt, to which Olivia replies, "As easy as that would be and as much as I love you for taking responsibility for the debt, we're here to discover and study. Not exploit what unknowns our planet has to offer. We can pay off the debt over time, Boy-o. For now, I wanna learn about this thing."
I feel this would've changed the narrative of what viewers expected but also showcased just how close Tom/Erik and his mom are. It would also deviate from the original httyd and how Hiccup had to keep Toothless a secret from his village.
It's like if Hiccup had been raised by Valka instead of Stoick. It would've been cool to see.
Jun Wong
She's not Erik's love interest. I'm saying that out of the gate. I think she would work much better as a sisterly figure for Erik.
She's still into astrology and myths but she's also into actual astronomy, ancient civilizations, different cultures + there traditions, all kinds of legends and theories and believes that anything can be real, even if they may not be. So she’s not an obnoxious know-it-all that insists that everything is real, she just doesn’t doubt that absolutely everything is not real. She’s open to anything.
The show never really mentions her dad other than the fact that he gave Jun the book of Greek myths so I think it would make sense if her dad was an archeologist. That would be why she's into ancient legends and cultures; because her father actually studies that stuff. Jun could've been closer to her dad growing up and now that her parents are divorced and she's living with her mom, she wraps herself in those stories and knowledge to cope with the fact that he isn't around anymore (based on another of Audrie's ideas).
I would also make it so that even though she's into a lot of the what her dad is into, Jun actually wants to be a writer/artist and use her knowledge to tell the unique stories not a lot of people know of, in new and creative ways. I can see her being very similar to Xiran Jay Zhao and Overly Sarcastic Productions on YouTube.
So, yes, Jun has ADHD.
This rewrite would have it so that the longest Jun and Erik hasn’t seen each other would've been a few months or so. After all, if Olivia and Jun's mom, May, had been working for the same company over the years, it would make sense that they'd all be within the same vicinity over the years, including more recently. That way it would make more sense that Jun knows how Erik is acting weird despite the original versions of them not having seen each other since they were six. People change drastically between six and fourteen.
In the scene where Tom/Erik tells Jun that he had found something in the fissure, in this rewrite, he still tells Jun despite Olivia telling him not to because he's concerned about keeping something like this a secret and he needs to talk to someone else about how he feels on the situation.
That would showcase his near animosity for the dragon —even though he knows it's not the dragon's fault— as well as his close connection to Jun. He's uncomfortable with keeping something like this a secret from any of his family, to which he sees Jun as. She’s like the supportive big sister who always protects and helps him.
It’s when Jun says “the legends of dragons have to come from somewhere,” Alex overhearing that, and then announcing her take on capitalism that Erik realizes that’s why his mom wants to keep Thunder a secret. So the scenes would play out the way it does in show, only Olivia goes with Erik to the caves. Olivia is excited about learning about the creature while Erik is more reluctant with it. Thunder is intrigued with Olivia as well, but notices how Erik seems almost negative towards him. So he tries harder to bond with Erik.
They're not instant friends like in the original episode, but by this point Erik is finally starting lighten up to Thunder, with his mom's encouragement.
Olivia wouldn't be happy that Erik still told Jun about the discovery nor that Jun is in on the secret (because she knows Jun would die to get her mom off of her back) but once Erik convinces Jun to lock her lips, Olivia is accepting since she knows Jun well enough to know that she'll keep her word for Erik
D'Angelo Baker
I actually like the way he was kinda characterized in the original. They don’t dive into it much but I like the idea of how —being raised by an army man— he’s awkward with social interaction and can be super blunt, even coming across as rude, without meaning to. Most likely on the autism spectrum.
I’d also add in some details like maybe he has two older siblings who are in the army like his dad used to be and he is nervous about going down a different career path because he thinks his dad expects the same of of him despite the fact that he wants to be a vet.
And maybe D not wanting to let his dad down could also stem from Philip not being around too often. Not neglectful but being the head of security, extremely professional at his job and probably taking night-shift patrols often, it would make sense if D’Angelo just didn’t see his dad too often. So he grew up closer to his doctor mom and wanted to be like his dad when he was a kid but now that he’s older, he realizes he wants to be a vet and is worried about how his dad would feel about the sudden change.
Of course Philip would support this after this comes to light and even encourages him. So the sudden amount of support D gets from Philip would be why he’s just so overconfident in the episode with the Catastrophic Quaken. It would make more sense than the original where D’s potential career was never an issue.
Over the course of these episodes, I would be taking seasons 1 & 2 and making them into 13 episodes per season situation. So instead of each kid getting a dragon in back to back episodes, I would make it so that we have 1 or 2 episodes in between D and Alex joining dragon club. Just to make it more realistic because this kinda stuff doesn’t happen like clockwork in real life. I’m also completely cutting “Uniconned” out, so we could have an episode before Dragon Club, being about Erik, Jun and Olivia learning about their dragons and how they do what they can do. Which, spoilers: I’m giving Jun a completely different dragon in part 3. It could also be this episode when Erik realizes Thunder’s species is connected to his ancestry. Instead of Thunder ridiculously being able to scorch the striker class symbol on a rock, Erik is leaving the cave as Thunder goes to lay down and curls into himself. It would be then, as he looks down at Thunder from the entrance, that he simply realizes that the dragon has the same silhouette as the symbol on his heirloom. Though I think the symbol should be on a shield they eventually put on their wall (replacing the nazi shield), rather than randomly painted on his helmet. Maybe the shield was Hiccup’s wooden one from Defenders of Berk.
I know the wiki says it’s the same shield as the Gronkle Iron one (via; Hiccup just encrusted the shield with it) but I had always assumed Hiccup just made another shield and painted it the same.
I’d also have some fun in D’Angelo’s episode where Erik sneaks Jun into the hidden world to explore without Olivia and the events play as they do and that’s why they’re sneaking around in the medbay, to try and make sure Olivia never knows they went there without her while still wanting to help an injured dragon like a bunch of dumb teens. So when D offers to help with the injured animal he overhears them speak about, they don’t really have much choice. Unless they want to tell Olivia that they snuck around potentially dangerous, unknown territory without her. Which of course she still finds out and is pissed about but regardless. Thus they tell D’Angelo that it’s a big animal they need help with so D can find the aid kit that will have all they need for it.
Jun questions why Icarus would have a first-aid for large animals and D explains that it’s in case of the scenario that the scientists discovered a new living species and will want to keep it alive (for prophet.)
Alex Gonzalez and more will be explained in part 2
