💭 Monro/Gist HCs
Yeah ok so Tumblr’s tag limit isn’t big enough to hold my ambition and cropped out some of my rambling, meaning I have been forced to finally consider using a text post to house my HCs rather than solely relying on the tag allotments of my images
So here I am
Some more of what it says on the tin:
The Colonel is a light sleeper, but he sleeps more soundly leaning against Gist (which only happens if they’re out in the field and regular sleeping arrangements are a distant dream). To the Colonel’s credit, he claims that it was, indeed, comfortable.
Gist has the honour of being the Colonel’s oldest friend and closest ally in the colonies, and true to this, he seems to have a sixth sense when it comes to telling if something is bothering the man. He wouldn’t force the issue immediately—the Colonel innately dislikes being fussed over—and trusts the older Templar enough to ask for his help when he feels it’s the right time to.
Still, this isn’t a foolproof method, and Gist sees the Colonel indulging in his habit of clearly trying to take on more than he can manage, he will interfere.
Gist is loud, and the Colonel likes that the way it is. When it comes to dispositions, the Colonel tends to...mull over the gloomier stuff when things get dark (a lot of thinking does that to you), but when in comes Gist with his voice like the summer sun, it’s hard to keep brooding for long.
The Colonel never fails to gently chastise Gist when he’s being too rowdy, and, to be honest, Gist doesn’t mind. It’s his way of moderating his more...destructive side, and he knows it. It could be that he was being overly enthusiastic about starting a fight, or that he was being too attached to his drink—if he feels the Colonel tugging at his lead, he listens and gives way.
Still, Gist does love a good banter, and the Colonel isn’t about to change that. Monro probably responds to most of his cheekiness by inwardly rolling his eyes, but sometimes Gist catches him from just the right angle, and the Colonel for all his calm couldn’t resist chuckling at his sass. That never gets old.
Throughout 1757, after the Colonel decided he was going to try spare Shay’s life by advocating for letting him join the Order, he sometimes has doubts about whether the ex-Assassin could really change—if Shay discovers that he’s a Templar, would he still be so friendly with him? (After all, his Brotherhood had killed Finnegan Jr., who had also tried to be good but was unfortunately still a Templar—a fact that Johnson and his anti-Assassin crew would never let him forget)
Gist, though, had no such doubts; he’d been right by his Captain’s side for the whole year long, and knew with complete certainty that if ever the Colonel found himself in danger, Shay would come running to him right away, allegiances be damned. Gist’s intuition is barely every wrong, and he assures the Colonel he can bet his life on it.
(Gist wore the most smug “I told you so” face for a few days after Fort William Henry, and the Colonel can’t quite say he found it the slightest bit annoying)
After the raid at Albany and the Colonel’s funeral, Gist had to admit he feels a bit...off-balance. With Monro no longer around to rein in his less sympathetic urges, he feels it’s once again easy to get lost. Of course, he couldn’t quite lose his grip on things when he still has his Captain to serve (a full Templar now, look at him), but when Shay feels uneasy about having to kill Adéwalé, a good man in a war that had killed so very many good men, he feels a little bad about immediately framing it as a necessary evil—and for slipping down that vengeful slope so effortlessly. In their kind of war, it’s hard not to wind up feeling bitter.

Some reporting from the front lines at Monongahela 📢
Spent a great deal of time just taking in the sights around Boston bcs I know this is my last chance at playing Templar, but man, Haytham feeding chickens in a random Boston backyard is life
That look on Ziio’s face when Haytham suggested getting rid of Braddock tho, I’m in love
Also went for a swim in the frozen waters by the shore and there was no freeze damage... Not gonna lie, I felt like a god 😂
While the movement control here’s generally nicer than Rogue’s, surprisingly, but when it comes to the finer parts where stealth is a necessity... Let’s just say I have never seen so many desynchronization warnings in my entire life
A short memo on the horses everyone got at Monongahela 🐎👀 In riding order:
・Church - brown w/ white front socks
・Haytham - same as above
・Hickey - black
・Johnson - chestnut
・Pitcairn - white w/ black back socks
Was supposed to go find Braddock somewhere in the convoy parked in the middle of the woods...but then I saw the back of the single bluecoat in the crowd and heyyy if it isn’t George W now where’s Gist he’s supposed to be here too
gdi Lee stop being adorable by saving my ass and shit, you’re tempting me with the future we could have had dammit
So my brain lapsed and I, very purposefully following the on-screen prompt, shot a gunpowder cart right in front of me while chasing Braddock and knocked myself off my horse—
Speaking of Braddock, what usually happens to a Templar’s ring when they die? It doesn’t seem right to just leave it lying around... Are they generally buried with their wearers? Hmm 🤔
To the rest of the Rite dutifully waiting for their Grand Master at the Green Dragon, who instead heard him running away from gunshots after chasing a damned almanac page right into a group of rooftop guards, I’m so sorry
Everyone seems to have shifted places at the Templar meeting table at the tavern, so I guess nobody called dibs on the seats? 😂 The only thing that remained the same is that Hickey and Pitcairn are still sitting across each other...
⌛️ Bonus: Present Day Interlude
Ah yes, I have been blessed with the opportunity to witness William Miles’ infamous A+ fail parenting techniques at close range
TIL Shaun has amazing conflict resolution skills
Juno hovering over the Animus and disappearing when approached is creepy af
Bugging Miles Sr. repeatedly as he tells me to “get back to work” satisfies my low-key petty heart

AC3 Seq2 - Table Positions
Ok so
As it turns out, apparently AC3′s autosave function kicked me forward to the next memory and I can no longer get to that scene where everyone’s sitting together at the Green Dragon
So in lieu of screenshots, here’s a short memo on what the lads are doing at the table from what I remember:
Johnson → sits next to Pitcairn, stretches a lot
Pitcairn → intense debating motions at Hickey across the table
Hickey → casually chilling with his drink
Lee → is amazingly sitting quietly next to Hickey
Church → at the end of the table between Lee and Johnson, slouched over and occasionally dusting off the table

Some more playthrough notes since I managed to get just enough time to finish up the Southgate episode today.
📢 Highlights 📢
I remember the scene in which the gang snuck up on the Southgate-bound convoy very well from Forsaken, and took my time marveling at how well it syncs up with the playable version...until Hickey ran out of lines to delay the guards and immediately hollered for Haytham to do something because he can’t hold the guards there forever 🤣🤣🤣 Sorry, Thomas 😂
Speaking of the team though, the things they pulled off on the ride towards the fort were a thrill to watch 👀 I’m sure it’s just part of the show to keep up the illusion that this is a gang of Assassins and not, in fact, a gang of Templars, but when you get to watch Pitcairn and Hickey dash by your periphery, smoothly clamber up a house, and then straight up pull a synchronized air assassination on two guards with bayonets of all things in the distance, that’s impressive as heck. Where did they learn how to do this stuff?? 😂
But oK when we get in the fort... How all your boys just disperse and melt into the crowd of actual soldiers, starting all kinds of conversation with them? Beautiful social blending 💯👌(and a great look into the gang’s bullshitting skills; I have to say Lee and Hickey are naturals at this, the confidence with which they deliver their cover stories is top grade)
Speaking of their interactions with the fort’s actual staff, I’m amused by how Pitcairn’s first instinct is to tell one of the soldiers to stop slouching 😂
And then the fighting started, and boy I have never seen this many redcoats in one screen
I gotta admit I couldn’t even see myself 90% of the time in that crowd—at least everyone except Haytham had markers above their heads. The disguise worked too well 😂
I found Ziio while tumbling through the crowd and fought by her for 10 whole minutes completely forgetting about Silas, it was great
It was also more great because Pitcairn also happened to be right close by, so that’s the three of us against the whole crowd, it was honestly a rather dramatic moment
Now I’m not surprised that there are a few glitches in this game, but while all this was going down ONE of the buddies was standing very still right there watching my ass get beat (Is that you Church? Betraying us a bit early, are you? 👀)
Lee is, again, being very adorable (the way he yells “I'll deal with this, sir!” is just...can we just keep this version and not the one he wound up becoming 😩
Overall it’s a really fun bit to play through bcs this is probably the only time the whole party’s working together, which honestly I can’t get enough of 😂 And everyone aside from Haytham had their own lines asfjsdfslfI feel so spoiled there is so much cOnTenT
Also, shout out to the veeery slight smile from Ziio at the end of the mission, that was some serious butterflies-in-stomach material ⚰️😇 We know how you feel, Haytham.

GUESS WHO FINALLY GOT AROUND TO PLAYING AC3 ⭑⭑⭑
My copy finally arrived and I’ve only gotten as far as the part before Southgate Fort, but goddamn I haven’t had this much fun in a while 😭😭
📢 Highlights 📢
A real gather, raise, and kick ass with your own Templar crew session?? God I hope Sequence 2 lasts forever
biG sHiPs I mean ok I’ve watched AC3 playthroughs before and the part aboard the Providence had always seemed so fun...but playing through it in person is evEN BETTER
This ship is easily twice as big as the Morrigan or the Jackdaw //gross sobbing// I want to buy this ship off Birch & gang how much do I have to pay them
climbs_everything.mp4
(Lowkey wondering if Shay used to work on a ship just like this one bcs his father used to work on a ship that’s also in the merchant navy)
Boston harbour is sO huge why does everything feel huge in this game
Damnit Lee you used to be so adorable what happened to you man
Going about town doing your job while this puppy of a Templar trainee follows you around is 👌👌👌
You can,,,actually,,,incessantly bug your Templar brethren for a talk at their table in the Green Dragon up to 4-5 times after cutscenes? And those convos have deep characterization content in them?? What black magic is this
(Yes I have spent too much time dicking around only in Rogue, anything more than bare bones content now look amazing to me)
Oh sweet Father of Understanding their idling animations are also all uniQuE I must take screenshots and note this down somewhere later
Other things I’m personally losing my mind over:
My Lawrence muse cannot wait to see how his baby brother’s doing (although for now he’s still recovering from the Emotions™ of getting to see the Grand Temple in person)
Pitcairn, Pitcairnnnnnn sweetie I finally get to see you in person gdi I could not sit still for the entirety of the part where I had to get him out of Braddock’s nasty mitts //screeching
It took me entirely too long to realize this, but the underside of Haytham’s cloak is actually red and suddenly everything now looks ten times as hot *q* (Not that he needed much help in looking hot, but well...red/black colour schemes on clothes just have that special charm, you know how it is 😇😇😇)
Can’t wait to get to the next part where we’ll finally go against Silas with a full team hnngh but for now I must sleep 💤 I have to say that Haytham’s been easier to navigate with than Shay for some reason, which made the playthrough pretty fun, but if there’s one thing I won’t miss from this game, that would be the old Animus interface... The layout’s great and all, but getting flashed with a screenful of pure white every time I want to check the database is...yeah, not great fun for the eyeballs. But, pretty great going otherwise 😂

🔍 The Equitas
Speaking of Smith, while he was, professionally speaking, a company treasurer, the way Shay & co. talked about him (and what his database entry says) suggests that he’s also the owner/captain of the poshly-named schooner Equitas.
While much tinier than the Morrigan, the Equitas is quick, and very well equipped—it’s got its own ice ram and burning oil storage. Smith seems to have made sure to keep his vessel upgraded and in fine form.
The deck itself is rather sparse, but there are quite a few cannons. It looks rather homey dusted with snow, actually.
The sails are white with elegant gold trimming. All in all, quite a cozy little craft 😊⛵️

🔍 Smith Memo
Went to take a peep at Smith too, and boy, they actually made sure that he couldn’t fight. At all.
After having, uh, gently removed the guards from the premises, I discovered that you can totally just walk up to him and he wouldn’t run or even try to fight back. And if you use a berserk dart on him (a.k.a. “that one method to switch on everyone’s fighting mode”), he reacts differently—he’s not as aggressive as Lawrence or Wardrop had been, and mostly spent his time running back and forth agitatedly, straight up ignoring the other guards unless they started targeting him first.
Man, he really couldn’t fight... Poor fellow must’ve been feeling terrorized 😬
By the by, after all this I made sure to tag him with the sleep dart before the berserk dart snuffs him out and left him snoozing somewhere warm, because I’m an inquisitive creature but not a total monster 😂 Thank you for your service, Smith!

🔍 Fightin’ Wardrop Memo
So today I spent some time chasing Wardrop all over Albany to find out how he does his fighting, which as it turns out is a great way to flood the town with chaotic three-way fights involving every single fighting unit in the area 😂
On a more serious note, his battle moves are quite similar to the Colonel’s, so I guess this means we can assume that he’s not a total slouch at swords and pistols 🤔 Coupled with how nonchalantly he just jogs all over town, he seems to be pretty good at keeping fit overall...
On top of all that, he’s also capable of pulling a pretty mean high kick. Colour the rest of the Virginia gang impressed, I’ve never seen even the Colonel do that before 😂😂

WHO THE FUCK SUMMONED WILLIAM JOHNSON

Shay: Wait here, in case Johnson arrives. I'll— I'll protect the Colonel.
Weeks: Thank you!
Looking through Weeks’ part of the FWH cutscenes again and man
There’s just so much weight in how he thanks Shay here. Weeks is obviously restless, and clearly not enjoying the fact that all he can do is sit back and watch shit hit the fan without being able to do anything. If he knows Johnson was on his way, I suppose that means he was with him at Fort Edward and got sent ahead as a messenger... 🤔 But that means he had no idea that the Colonel had surrendered, and only found out after he arrived. And to top that off, since he’s not stuck inside the fort, he’d have known what’s waiting for the garrison waiting to leave FWH 👀
To make it worse, the terror must’ve been doubly real for Weeks because, like Gist (and Shay here), he’s one of those Templars who we know has especially close ties to the Colonel (even if this information is...kinda tucked away in his database entry instead of in proper cutscenes where I wish it could’ve been hgh), so this isn’t just a case of “oh, my Templar coworker is in danger”; he genuinely doesn’t want a friend of his to die. With how most inter-Templar relationships in the series often play out as emotionally sterilized, practical it’s-only-business partnerships, it’s just nice having Templars who have real human connections sometimes 🤔
