some thoughts under the cut (tw for discussions of abuse, doxxing)

i’ve sat with what happened in the past 24 hours and while there is obviously some serious clarity lacking i figured i might as well share what i think with you guys.

to begin with, i will say that there’s no doubt in my mind or anyone else’s that the onus of explanation falls on manatreed to expose the allegations against him as false. he’s been a faceless streamer for one day — yes it’s a shame and yes it’s invasive to have to reveal one’s identity against one’s will, but i would do that in a heartbeat if it was to prove accusations of being an abuser untrue. his statement, which was essentially “just trust me guys i didn’t do this” unfortunately pale in comparison to stacks of evidence against him. while it was doxxed information that brought this to light, it would be foolish to focus on the immorality of doxxing when there is something much bigger to address.

as for dream’s response to everything. well. i think his initial tweet was absolutely moronic. i think doing a spur of the moment, damage control lore stream was beyond stupid, and honestly insulting to the fans who expected much better from him. and i hope he addresses that in some capacity or another very soon. i want to believe that there are other factors at play, and i do think there were some that fed into how he handled this. he has historically been the first to speak out against accusations against his friends, like the false threads that spread about sapnap and badboyhalo. he has an awful past with the community that has time and time again dug up personal information about him and his family and spread it all over the internet. i doubt he took it into consideration that manatreed is/was lying to him because of the fact that they’re childhood friends - realistically, i wouldn’t do a deep investigation into someone i trusted, either. and above all, dream is used to having unconditional support from his fanbase through controversies small and large.

so it does hurt, as a longtime fan and one of those core fans who has supported him and how much he’s grown over the past years, to see the way he handled this. i think he took this as another case of “antis spreading misinfo” that could be dismissed easily, which is why he reacted the way he did. but there is substantial, real proof here. there is court documentation. and as of right now he needs to provide an explanation that is entirely honest. i want to believe he was misled in some way, or didn’t know the true extent of manatreeds history. frankly, from a completely objective and cynical standpoint, it would be one of the most idiotic moves to openly put your career and reputation on the line for a person you’ve known for a couple of months if you were aware that he had done something like this. which is the main thing that leads me to believe there is something more going on here. but regardless, we can sit here and theorise as much as we want — it is dream’s responsibility to provide his explanation for us. to assume the best or the worst does nobody any good.

i’m waiting for a statement from both dream and manatreed. no, dream is not responsible for what manatreed did. but he does need to acknowledge that this is more than just petty twitter drama. writing off how he reacted as a “trauma response” is infuriating as it assumes you know more about him than you do. he is a grown man and i want to believe he isn’t malicious, but instead someone who made a complete and utter fuck up when confronted with this. manatreed can either own up to these allegations being true, or he can without a shadow of a doubt prove them false. there’s no in between in my eyes.

ultimately, my heart goes out to the victim who had her name and her story broadcasted for thousands to see, and i hope that she can move past this.
