Jude Duarte is first her MOTHER’S daughter, then Madoc’s

People always say Jude’s personality is a copy paste of Madoc, which to some degree is true. He raised her as a father and very much shaped her. But she was like that before too… just like her mother.

In TWK we get the snippet of Jude taking the training wheels off her bike and getting all bruised up while Taryn stuck to the side walks. And then in TCP we get Madoc’s short description of her mother as being clever and brave and unafraid if the face of Faerie.

She burned down the General’s house with a mother and unborn baby inside so she could get away. To protect the people she loved, Jude would have too.

So yes, Jude was polished by Madoc, but she was shaped first by Eva Duarte.

Cardan really thought about Jude, often, it was disgusting but he couldn't stop. pricked her finger to bring her to her senses, gifted her one of the most beautiful dresses ever, looked for her while his family was getting murdered, crawled after her, kissed her at knife point (a moment among many that he remembered as romantic), fucked an alliance just to get her back, MARRIED HER (let's not talk about that exile rn), went into an enemy war camp for her. Also, did I mention his LETTERS??? And that he ALWAYS. KNEW. HER!!!? Honestly, it is disgusting how much I think about HIM. Often. And I can't stop.

OKAY, can we talk about that scene in Queen Of Nothing when Cardan and Jude talk again for the first time. The moment he realized she was afraid of him.

He cuts himself off, looking at my face more carefully. “No, you’re afraid. But why would you be afraid of me?”

We don’t talk about that scene enough!! It honestly breaks my heart for Cardan, considering Jude was rarely afraid of him. We all know he missed her, and the fact that her first reaction was fear must have been so confusing for him. One thing he loved about Jude is that she wasn’t afraid of anyone, and if she is she doesn’t show it. It literally made me so sad that he was confused on why she would be afraid of him. I mean they were literally married.

Cardan really wrote a letter to Jude saying the silvery moonlight, shared by him in Elfhame and by Jude in the mortal world, reminded him of when she threatened him with her knife up to his throat and of all their other romantic encounters and I'm just supposed to be okay with that???
