Merlin, he was losing it. 

A mixture of sleep deprivation and blood loss now causing him to hallucinate. In hindsight he should have taken notice of the universe’s warnings and not ventured out. There was a reason he often allowed paranoia to plague him, after all, and yet despite lack of trust, he couldn’t help but play with fire. ( Sirius had always encouraged his recklessness, and if he wasn’t proof that the trait didn’t always die out with age,  he didn’t know what was. ) Fingers wrestled with the effort of unravelling the bandage, trying to ignore this sudden phenomenon, wondering when his sanity had finally slipped. Had it been the moment the curse had struck him? The aftermath of what had followed next? The Death Eater was still slumped against the tree nearby; out cold, but alive, pulse thudding in his ears. Was this some sick and twisted revenge they’d conducted between themselves? Were they more lingering within the shadows? Should he just release Gabriel and be done with this?
