BATIM: A Deal with the Devil (or, Six Dates to Defeat a Demon)

Henry approaches the Ink Demon - who he once knew as Joey Drew - with a proposal, in the hope of saving himself and his former colleagues… putting his own body and soul on the line in the process. His hope of success depends on Sammy and Susie remembering their past and rekindling their halted romance - but given their chequered history, has Henry bitten off more than he can chew?

This story was conceived before the release of Chapter 5, and is set in an OOC AU where Sammy and Susie are still alive, albeit in their respective monstrous forms. The Ink Demon is a hybrid of Bendy and Joey with some self-awareness, corrupted by evil and power.

Summary:

Why would anyone want a queen’s first-born baby?

What if the Pied Piper went platinum?

At their roots, fairy tales are bleak and brutal. Those who wish that their life was more like a fairy tale would be shocked to find, should their wish be granted, that the reality they rejected was nowhere near as bad. Even if things turned out for the best, they’d still have a heck of a hard time getting to their “Happily Ever After”.

That’s the case with the characters we hear from in this collection. Through a mixture of poetry and prose - with altered perspectives, settings and contexts - readers will experience new twists and takes on classic tales that are both humorous and moving.

The Moon Prince

A mashup of various fairy tales (notably “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aladdin”) and Edmond Rostand’s play Cyrano de Bergerac, with a hint of The Phantom of the Opera for good measure.

Cyrano, Prince of Ipomoea Alba - the Moon Realm - has a wide array of talents: in particular, his beautiful poetry. Yet, due to his enormous nose, he believes he is too ugly to ever be loved. 

When his dear friend, Princess Roxanne - whom he secretly adores - is betrothed to a man she does not wish to wed, Cyrano enlists the help of his handsome valet, Christian, in a plan to manufacture the perfect suitor for her… even if if costs him his own happiness. 

But what of the prophecy his fairy godmother made so many years ago?

A very quick drabble I wrote after watching the Moominvalley episode “Snufkin and the Park Keeper”.

It’s Midsummer Eve, and as he hides away in the shadows, Joxter sees his son for the first time. As he watches the events of Snufkin’s night unfold, memories from his own past begin to resurface.

Is Snufkin just like him? Or does the young Mumrik have qualities that he lacks?

Quick one-shot born out of a fan theory / headcanon I concocted whilst reading Sims and Urbz lore.

Investigative journalist Lincoln Broadsheet travels to Strangerville to investigate the bizarre goings-on there. Erwin Pries, Curio Shop owner and fellow conspiracy theory enthusiast, is one of Lincoln’s biggest fans - but unbeknown to him, he’s also part of a second, secret mystery from the journalist’s own past.

The Huxley Letters

The noble-born Lady Clara Huxley, trapped in a miserable marriage, longs to escape through travel. Through her various voyages on the airship Aurora with her loyal crew, new worlds are opened up to her in more ways than one. However, some things still anchor her to her tragic past.

Clara confides in an American acquaintance through a series of letters, detailing both her global travels, and her life’s journey.

A Steampunk adventure/romance story, told in an epistolary style.
