From  Wikipedia:  “Gozan no Okuribi (五山送り火), more commonly known as Daimonji (大文字), is a festival in Kyoto, Japan.  It is the culmination of the Obon festival on August 16, in which five giant bonfires are lit on mountains surrounding the city. It signifies the moment when the spirits of deceased family members, who are said to visit this world during O-Bon, are believed to be returning to the spirit world—thus the name Okuribi (送り火, roughly, “send-off fire”)”

京菓子

Each of these are from a different shop, and each shop has been around at least 300 years! My favorite was the second one, designed like a morning glory and very soft, from Tawaraya Yoshitomi. The others are seijo-kanki-dan from Kameya Kiyonaga (top left), water peony design from Tsuruya Yoshinobu (bottom left), and a soft mochi called “Furusato” and brown sugar Yokan from Toraya (bottom right).

Just some tasty food stuffs from the last month! Miso katsu, mulled “wine”, fugu sashimi platter, grilled wagyu and “Kinki”, shioyaki salmon with dressed spinach and hijiki salad, arroz atollado with arepas, and yakiniku!

Note: I did not make the sashimi platter or the wagyu, but the rest I did :3
