“The most mesmerising things are always broken. Beauty is misery. Beauty is pain. Beauty is the suffering we see in others and the damage we cannot recognise within ourselves.”

“We’re gonna die...
Oh my god, we are really going to die! I didn’t even get to live my life. This can’t be happening. Why us, why me?! I told you this was a bad idea! Please lord, have mercy-”
“Just.. shut. up. Get yourself under control, please! So we’re going to die, what else is new?

“You don’t understand.”
“What is there to understand? YOU betrayed me!”
“You are so ignorant. Why can’t you see? Why can’t you see I gave up everything for you!
You may call it betrayal, but I call it sacrifice. I hope one day you’ll see why.”

“She slowly walked through the corridor, taking her time, savouring the feeling. Around her, the flames of the candles flickered. The point of her sword dragged across the floor behind her feet. Drops of blood trickled down her hand.
Today was revenge. Today, it would end.
She smiled.
Today, they would die”

One of the best tips for writing descriptions of pain is actually a snippet I remember from a story where a character is given a host of colored pencils and asked to draw an egg.
The character says that there’s no white pencil. But you don’t need a white pencil to draw a white egg. We already know the egg is white. What we need to draw is the luminance of the yellow lamp and the reflection of the blue cloth and the shadows and the shading.
We know a broken bone hurts. We know a knife wound hurts. We know grief hurts. Show us what else it does.
You don’t need to describe the character in pain. You need to describe how the pain affects the character - how they’re unable to move, how they’re sweating, how they’re cold, how their muscles ache and their fingers tremble and their eyes prickle.
Draw around the egg. Write around the pain. And we will all be able to see the finished product.

“That’s the funny thing, you know
Objectively, I’m here right now, standing before you, but actually,
Actually, I’m not, not really
I’m here *taps head*
Stuck in my head, where I’ll always be”
