Self Reflection

For me 2020 was the year of reflections, brought on by a bio weapon The ChinaVirus. (I do not find that terminology to be racist as China is a location, not an ethnicity, and I have the up most respect for the people of mainland China; however, the Spanish Flu that is racist) But unconsciously I began to question ME. My morals and values moved and changed, my desire to learn became an addiction, the wanting for human connection became noticeable, I for the 1st time ever  can say that I believe in religion and why it is detrimental to humans and society, the realization that life is not promised, but mostly my soul and I had some unforgettable conversations about the past, the present, and the future. 

During this period of self discorvery and with the doom and gloom of this virus  I realized that life is too unpredictable to wait to not say those things, to not ask for or give forgiveness, or even to admit fault. I took that journey recently and I hope that what's to come will be as inviting and warm as it was today for the remainder of our story. This was first time I felt that I took a step in the right direction and I did it for no one but myself. My first act of selfishness was a success.

I am sorry friend....I hear your frustration and your anger. I understand why you feel that way and yes you are right....too many people had to pass as a result and yes that is a tragedy; however, what about those that have live jobless, homeless, and broke? How many children are suffering when their only escape was school? How many people have died from violence, overdoses, and abuse? How many front line works put their self’s and their loved one’s at risk? How many people have gotten Covid and recovered? How many people have had to die alone? And how many more will continue to suffer? Do I need a lesson in empathy? I do not think so but what keeps you locked in does not scare me. I mask when in public out of respect, I distance from strangers but not my family, and I thank God everyday that I’m essential. But my time on earth is borrowed and tomorrow is not promised. So we can choose to live in fear of the inevitable or a take a chance with living.

Sad 😔 but true....Those that have decided that life isn’t worth living are the ones who wear mask, the ones who sanitize, the ones who distance, the ones who vaccinate. To sacrifice so much human need for a virus that’s less dangerous than the food you eat, the water you drink, or those prescription meds you are already on. This life is not promised! This is how you chose to spend it? We are human our souls require the touch of others to survive. Emotions are the reflection of that soul and it is fucking WEEPING! Sometimes it’s these moments that you treasure. A little piece of heaven that you carry with you. Those deep conversations over chicken wings, French fries, and sweet potato fries that continued well after the meal was gone. That moment when you realize that they are changing and in that moment so many questions are answered. It helps explains the reactions or maybe even the inactions But you also get the best gift on earth. A glimpse into their soul. You get see if they are gentle and kind. Wounded or angry. Honest but empathetic. You see what type of person they’re becoming. But your gift comes with a heavy price. For you possess the greatest strength of all....Influence. And when you see those gifts of kindness, the honesty, the wounded hardened but still gentle and empathetic young adults and no longer the fun loving playful spirit they once were. You take pride in that moment but more importantly you listen because what hear in moments like these some of the most honest words are spoken. It’s what you do with these words is what matter. For the tongue is a wicked thing and words spoken can never be taken back.
