Delegate - oh, no. Shockwave shook their head, antenna lowering. The smaller bot had already been doing so much, running around and helping keep the usually hectic lab neat and orderly. They couldn't possibly ask more of them.

"You've already done so much, Tonton. It would...unreasonable to ask you to do more." They gave a half shrug, motioning to the lab with a slight sway of their cannon arm. "I'm used to working alone, anyway."

Even when they'd still been with the Decepticons, working alone had just been the default. They'd been lucky if Soundwave had deigned to work near them, and that was only ever to keep an optic on them, just like he used to do with Starscream and anyone else that could betray them. Anyone else just avoided their lab.

Shockwave looked down at Tonton, in time to hear their voice soften and watch the way they lowered their helm - ah. Yes, they could feel themself caving in to the little bot's demands.

"...I am not great, Tonton - and I suppose you are right, my work will not suffer if I step away for a moment."

At first, Shockwave froze at the digits holding onto their hand, effectively pulling them away from their current project. They look down, regarding Tonton with an unreadable red optic, antenna held high in curiosity.

"...and what do you need, Tonton?" They rumble, voice gruff from lack of recharge; they say nothing about their joined hands, nor acknowledges it beyond curling their own claws around the other mech's. Shockwave didn't want to make the little mech stop or let go - and they weren't sure how strange saying that out loud would be.

They'd almost forgotten that they'd had Tonton helping them around the labs. It was both convenient and comforting, having another presence wandering around when it was usually just them and Bolts. Said cybercat was recharging on a recently cleared table, having knocked over half the datapads and curled up n. Figures.

Shockwave shifted, letting the little mech have a better view of what they'd been working on; the programming for the next batch of predacons, now that the current ones were nearing the end of their shortened incubation period.

"This is an important project, I can't let it sit uncompleted." Even if they felt exhausted and the glyphs on the screen had started to blur. Shockwave hated leaving these sort of things to the last minute. They gently squeezed Tonton's claws, optic softening as they looked down at them. "I rarely miss anything, and I promise I'll refuel as soon as my projects are finished with. Please do not worry too much, Tonton."

Still sitting in the dark, Shockwave strained to listen for further signs they weren’t alone here. While, yes, it wasn’t technically a bad thing to have to scare away a few of the locals from time to time, it was not something that they enjoyed doing. And what if someone managed to stumble into their work, too? Earth would never be able to handle having Cybertronian technology, or the vast wealth of knowledge recorded on those hidden datapads.

Humankind would tear itself apart with that sort of power. And they had made a promise to not leave anything of theirs in the fragile hands of organics. Couldn’t go around breaking promises.

....even if that promise wasn’t exactly reasonable. Though, Predaking wasn’t exactly the reasonable sort to begin with...

However....if they were to reveal themself, just to scare a few locals away from their location, it could mean they’d have to leave. Find a new place to lay low and collect data. It had been difficult enough to rig this one building into a suitable living quarters, next time they wouldn’t get so lucky and score a place like this.

They would wait, just for a moment longer...if Shockwave thought they were about to be discovered, they could skip back to their root mode and hopefully use a nearby - empty - energon cube to trap their uninvited guest.

In the dead of night, Shockwave works silently. The abandoned human settlement they had found had, so far, been perfect. All those “government property” signs and barbed wire fences seemed to keep any pesky intruders away, save the few that found the hole Bolts had made in the fence. Still, it wasn’t like they planned to stay long. A few rambling idiots wouldn’t ruin their plans, as long as no one believed them.

Shockwave finally set aside the latest datapad full of scribbles, sliding the stack out of sight beneath a heavy tarp. Lights were shut down, and the dark mech collapsed into their cybertronian tank alt mode; lacking a berth meant slightly uncomfortable recharging methods.

…did they lock all the doors? Because that was definitely the creak of an opening door somewhere on the abandoned compounds. Shit.
