Frustration took over 2019

The feeling of fustration has overcomed me the past weeks in all the elemets in my life currently. I was even feeling fustrated while creating this work. For the sake of my curiosity and urging itch to paint again, lets just say I allowed it drag me in.

Versatility 2019

Graphite pencils on paper

I really wanted to depict the versatileness of my subject using one of the most common, accessible and simple mediums which was the graphite pencil. Interestingly enough, being that my subject is wooden post all of my materials were ancestors of this material. Whether it be my paper or my pencil, it has all traced back to the versatileness of this subject that we at times take advantage of. During the process of creating this work, I was already a bit frustrated and yet excited that I had to test myself to only use this material. Being that as a artist I love the combination of materials to create things unimaginable, but this was a challenge that I was more than ready to take. My collection of graphite pencils ranging from HB to 8B allowed me to create these delicious, rugged and sharp lines that’s encompassed my wooden subject. While also allowing me to create these very dark tones in depicting the shadow created by the light. As if it was a full circle, the versatileness of this material truly allowed me to depict the versatility of my subject.

“Too Attached” 2019

This work was a reconstruction of my “Detach” artwork and a deconstruction of my “Death by consistency” artwork. I've always wanted to branch out from the traditional canvas and try sowing materials together. I wanted this piece to give off an eerie feeling just as “Death by consistency” where you almost felt the thread stitching your own skin. As in “Detach,” with this piece I was striving to also acknowledge my sense of attachment and really have the viewer grasp that through the stitching.

“Detach” 2019

This piece was inspired but the creative “unlearn” progression of contemporary artist Chris Johanson. This artist felt that he had to quit art and traveling to truly unlearn how to detach from his self from his works. With this work I wanted to teach myself to also unlearn the concept of having to always attach so much meaning to my works and just create to create, while not questioning why am I creating it. This work was a depiction of me detaching myself from that idea and other things in my life that don't deserve my full attention.
