Compiled lore info regarding each of the Fatui Harbingers
Tumblr media
Since the designs have been revealed I thought I’d compile a list of information we have on every character. Info is drawn from already existing lore in the story, item descriptions as well as leaks, so if you want to avoid those please skip this post!
Update: added which Harbinger will become playable as well as when they will appear in the game at the end of the post

Reminder that Ei actually cared for Scara. In fact, she actually saw him more as a person than she saw the puppet shogun (up until they reconciled). In her mind, she saw him as too emotional and fragile (this is just my theory but perhaps similar to Makoto) and didn't want him to bear the pain of holding the gnosis (which Scara later experienced when he inserted it in himself). In addition, she let Scara go because she thought that living as a normal human without any ties to her will bring him a tranquil life. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Ei had good intentions but she was trained to become a warrior. She didn't understand the mortal world like Makoto did, she only understood after coming to terms with her sister's death. Inadvertently, this caused pain for the people of Inazuma and also Scara.

The latest fandom trend is “Childe vs Ayato <3 <3 <3″ but like
please think about this logically.
Ayato’s skill level is “better than the assassins sent after him.” That’s it. He’s a dude who is better than ninja mooks. Do you genuinely think he’s better than Childe who fought actual monsters all over and got to Harbinger by combat ability alone. Do you think they are in the same weight class.
I know Mihoyo went a little wild letting the Traveler brag about beating both Childe and Osial, but that’s not actually what happened (at all) and also Mihoyo’s writing is inconsistent shit.
Not even getting into people trusting what any human NPC says about ancient events…
“Morax bodily dragged Azdaha out of the Chasm” no, he didn’t!! It’s just another exaggeration, just like the area around Qingce being made from the Chi’s body and blood! Every time any actual immortal who was there comments on this stuff, they immediately go “no, that’s didn’t happen!” Stop falling for it!!

Theory: Could Kitsune Come from the Dandelion Sea?
Tumblr media
bringing my theory over from reddit to here again
According to the Toki Alley Tales, kitsune aren’t originally from Inazuma but arrived by sea before a 1600 year war erupted between them and the tanuki for territory. There were lots of causalities, humans apparently were the offspring of bewildered yokai, and the tanuki gave Mount Yougou and the Sacred Sakura to the kitsune as a sign of truce.
Tumblr media
So that got me wondering where kitsune originally came from then. I’m thinking, crazy it might sound, that they could come from the Dandelion Sea. So far the only mentions of it in-game are from a kid and a book, but there are rumors it could become a playable area of Mondstadt one day and according to the kid you can talk to about it, there are talking foxes in the Dandelion Sea.
Tumblr media
And if you read the book series ‘The Fox in the Dandelion Sea’, the foxes there showcase abilities of talking and shapeshifting and the cunning trickery that kitsune are associated with both in irl Japanese legends and characterized in the, at the moment, only kitsune character in the game, Miko.
Tumblr media
The Dandelion Sea novel has a character in it who is a talking fox who can turn into a humanoid form who ultimately tricks and spirits away the protagonist into teaching her son human speech before turning him into dandelions and sending him back to the rest of Mondstadt, his memories erased and only vague of that experience.
So if kitsune aren’t originally from Inazuma, the only place I can logically think they are from are from the Dandelion Sea. And if it does actually become a playable area in the Mondstadt region, we could meet a branch of kitsune folk that never left their (possible) homeland in search of new territory. This could be a total stretch of course, but I just found it quite interesting that a book found in Inazuma specifically states that kitsune aren’t originally from there so where else could they be from if not the one place specified to have talking foxes.
What do you guys think?

what we know of arataki itto bc this man is a legend:
- has oni blood flowing through his veins and an extremely competitive spirit
- is the leader of a gang! we only know of one other member, “kuki ninja” - she’s mentioned in sayu's voicelines
- has a huge one sided rivalry with kujou sara, challenging her in the many bulletin boards in inazuma after his vision was taken under the decree
- always signs with a different title in between his family and given names, such as “The Strongest”, “The Supreme” and “The Oni Sumo King”
- enjoys playing with kids. when he wins, he takes their snacks
- he’s always getting yoimiya to enter friendly competitions when they’re entertaining the kids, such as who can drink a bowl of ramen soup in one go
- speaking of yoimiya, he keeps buying trinkets at her store to challenge sara with
- enjoys and plans to set up a bug-fighting dojo
- once bet with a "lady with kitsune ears" (possibly yae miko) on who could eat the most kitsune ramen. kitsune ramen had fried tofu, including beans, on it. onis are allergic to beans, so he almost died. he won the bet.

True identity of Scaramouche - HUGE SPOILERS!!!
Tumblr media
According to Yae, Ei created a puppet or rather a prototype to prove that she was able to live in that body vessel. But the intellect and appearence of that prototype weren't based on her because it simply had been a test.
She originally wanted to discard it, but Ei thought she would have been to cruel to that prototype and in the end she decided to seal the power within it.
Later, this puppet wandered Inazuma as an ordinary human male with his own consciousness, until the Fatui took interest in him. After they found him, they made a few adjustments to the prototype and hence have been unsealing his power and changed his appearence.
The Balladeer, Scaramouche, was also able to get the Gnosis.
So basically Scaramouche was created as being a human body test for Baal, Ei, and is kinda her son!

What is Gorou?
Summary: A brief explanation of what animal Gorou is.
Content warnings: None.
Tumblr media
Gorou is a character that was introduced in the 2.0 update of genshin impact, near the end of the Act II archon quest. He is a military leader of the resistance in Inazuma and looks like a sunshine boy to me.
I had seen many people saying he is a kitsune, but that is NOT the case.
He is a Shiba Inu boy.
Tumblr media
Image credit to this reddit post
There is also a real life Japanese General named Shiba Gorou(柴五郎)
Him being a fox does sound nice and all, but that is not the case here.

Is rosaria an undead person? Shes so grey. Like. Its so grey. Why is she fast at night??? Who is she??? Where did she come from???
I did a bit of digging for this one and. Wow. Okay. Rosaria's story is dark as HELL. There's nothing that actually explicitly implies she's undead/a vampire, but she does have a major theme of death itself- So she could, possibly, be related to some kind of undead species.
There's gonna be a lot of character spoilers here, but I'll only bring up the stuff I find relevant to the questions!
WHERE IS ROSARIA FROM?
Basically, Rosaria wasn't born in "Mondstadt"- Instead, she was born to a mountain village somewhere else. It doesn't go into where exactly, but given our current topography, the only real 'mountain' in Mond is Dragonspine... Which lines up with how her story describes the conditions as 'frigid' and 'freezing'. This, combined with the fact that she's first introduced there and shows remarkable resilience to the cold, heavily implies that she was, in fact, born somewhere within Dragonspine.
Unfortunately, a group of bandits slaughtered and destroyed her entire village when she was just a baby, and took her in as a tool they taught to kill. She was subjected to hard physical labour and exposed to horrific things even as a child, leading to her cold nature.
This, however, brings up an interesting point: Rosaria doesn't know her birth parents, or her history. Why would a village live within Dragonspine, when there's plenty of other more hospitable areas throughout the land? There's a couple things I can think of from the top of my head:
Cultural. It's not odd for people to live in dangerous places, and Earth itself houses many people who live quite happily in climates that most of us couldn't handle. The two lead ons from this are that her village could be comprised of totally "average" humans, OR her "species" prefers a colder climate.
Species. If Rosaria really isn't human, then maybe her village was ostracized from society due to this- Teyvat has demonstrated that there are many mixed species within the world, including Katzlein, Adepti, foxboys(?), and Elves. It's accepting of most, but it's possible that not all people are considered welcome.
TL;DR: Rosaria was likely born somewhere in Dragonspine, in a remote, apparently defenseless village. She does not know her history.
ROSARIA'S THEMES
Each character in Genshin can be broken down into certain themes. For Rosaria, her themes include: Death, and Night. These themes are referenced explicitly within her stories and attributes.
Death:
"She also possesses exceptional strength and knows the weaknesses of the human body like the back of her hand — and has no reservations about using this knowledge to kill."
"What led her to become a blood-soaked slayer? Why does she stay silent while others praise the gods for their protection?"
Night:
"As far as she was concerned, the golden sunlight was not so much cleansing as blinding. For Rosaria had long since come to understand that she was a child of the moonlight, and it was inevitable that she would someday return to the embrace of darkness."
"Rosaria's youth was just like Mondstadt's sunset — blood-red from horizon to horizon, and so fleeting that night had fallen before she'd had the chance to stop and take in the view."
"If they must disappear, then Rosaria shall be the last person they meet. Such dark work, which cannot see the light of day, is to be done by her hand alone. She always sets out after the sun has set, finishing her work in one fell swoop. Sometimes, if she makes it back by the crack of dawn, she gets to usher in the day ahead with a glass of breakfast wine. The people of Mondstadt live in the golden sunlight, but Rosaria dwells under the silver moonlight."
"Though, in her eyes, "young people" means all citizens of Mondstadt who live in the light of the sun, regardless of their age."
Rosaria is a self-contracted assassin who works entirely in the night, believing it to be more suited to her work and fate. She doesn't consider herself to be the same as the rest of Mond, and sees herself as older/wiser. She kills alone, in the darkness, with an affinity for the cold.
ROSARIA'S CONSTELLATION
"Spinea Corona" translates to "Thorny Crown". It has religious symbolism, known heavily from Christian lore as what Jesus wore when he died. I don't know much about religion at all, so I can't go into that very well, but-
Tumblr media
I assume that her constellation reflects her skewed divinity, as apparently, the thorned crown was placed upon Jesus as a form of mockery.
Overall... I don't think we can accurately say what she is or isn't related to at this point in time! Her history doesn't give any indication that she may have died at any point, so she's not a zombie- But there's no saying what her origin is either, so. Maybe some kind of half-vampire? Who knows!

There’s something off about Orobashi’s death.
So far two sources (the coral branch weapon ascension materials and Miyazaki Saburou, the blacksmith in Fort Fujitou) have both painted Orobashi as a rather benevolent deity. His powers came from corals he obtained in the Dark Sea and yet he stripped himself of them to create Watatsumi Island, not to mention how Orobashi taught the people how to farm and smelt. Even Sangonomiya Chronicles, our currently only detailed description of what happened and was written by a historian of the Shogunate, said that Orobashi and the original Electro Archon respected their boundaries before war broke out.
So that means there’s two main reasons why war might’ve broken out:
1. Orobashi wasn’t the initial aggressor and the Electro Archon instead was the one who kicked off the war (keep in mind she’s described as someone who ruthlessly united Inazuma during the Archon War)
2. Orobashi became corrupted and indeed invade eastwards.
The second one has some more stuff I’m guessing. If Orobashi did become corrupted, why? Was it because of his past in the Dark Sea? The fact that Orobashi gained those otherworldly corals from it could mean that he also changed in other ways. The coral branches also state that Orobashi was not meant to stay in Teyvat and that led to his ultimate demise so did going to the Dark Sea mean that Orobashi could no longer physically remain in Teyvat and made him more susceptible to corruption?
Or was it Celestia? This is mainly based off the theory that Guizhong was corrupted by Celestia so Zhongli would kill her given that cooperation between gods was practically unheard of. Orobashi and the original Archon may not have collaborated like Guili did but the fact that they didn’t try outright killing each other in the first place is also an anomaly. So did Celestia feel threatened enough by this to intervene? Or was it more so because Orobashi reached the Dark Sea and returned? Gah, I need more lore crumbs I have so many thoughts rn :,)

Baal
*2.0 livestream spoilers
I'm so glad that the JP and (likely) the CN Voice actor of Baal is the same as Honkai Raiden Mei. This is basically a confirmation that Baal is the genshin version of Raiden Mei.
I wonder if this is a trend starting from Unknown god(same VA)
