It wasnโ€™t until his lips were on hers that Christine realized just how much flour was on them, including their lips. Whilst the kiss itself was rather enjoyable, especially as Raoul held her close in a way that made her melt, she was sure neither were as fond of the chalky taste. And given that his hands were covered in flour as well, the two of them would have an interesting time trying to wash out all of that later on. Oh well, it didnโ€™t matter much really, she was enjoying all of this too care much right now.
She giggled softly as they pulled away and he showed off the dry ingredients heโ€™d mixed, surely it couldnโ€™t be that off if he followed the recipe, it was pretty hard to mess up pancakes.
โ€œNow Iโ€™m just going to mix the dry and wet ingredients together, do you mind lighting the stove and getting me a griddle?โ€ Once that was done, it wouldnโ€™t take much longer.

Christine was clearly more in her element than she had been in a long time. There was no need for her to keep up appearances, no one to impress and no status to uphold right now, they were simply shopping in a market, just the two of them.
As they walked around, stopping at various stalls to pick up whatever they needed, she saw how a little boy who wasnโ€™t paying attention ran straight into her husband, he was clearly unharmed, but Raoul ensured he was alright before the child ran back off. It was then that he turned to her with a look she recognized.
โ€œOh, nothing, I just know what youโ€™re thinking is all.โ€ Theyโ€™d spoken about children before and after they had married, both wanted them, but they hadnโ€™t made any solid plans just yet. Christine briefly leaned her head on his shoulder. โ€œJust for the record though, youโ€™d make a wonderful father.โ€

Seeing her husband laugh and smile like this quickly took her back to their days in Perros, they didnโ€™t throw flour at each other or anything like that, but it made her think about their childhoods, those days spent on the beach when neither had any major responsibilities and for a time, they could pretend not to have a care in the world. They could simply enjoy their time and not worry so much about what the future would bring, which honestly neither would have expected their lives to turn out this way. But Christine couldnโ€™t be more thankful to be this childish and playful with him right now.
โ€œIโ€™m sure your sisters would also be proud of how distinguished we look right now.โ€ It was much more difficult to see her slight blush this time under all that flour as he kissed her nose.
โ€œAs fun as this is, we should probably mix the flour into the batter before it ends up everywhere else. But I wouldnโ€™t certainly wouldnโ€™t mind if you kissed me again.โ€

At this rate there would be more flour on them than there would be in their breakfast. Christine gasped as well as he threw a sizable amount at her too, coating her face, hair, and clothing despite having an apron on. This was certainly going to be fun cleaning up later, but she really didnโ€™t care, when was the last time she felt so child-like and free?
โ€œI think I certainly did.โ€ In a flash the young woman was able to grab onto more flour, careful to take from that bowl and not the mixture that Raoul had already made, throwing that directly onto his face to match her own. It wasnโ€™t long before the couple fell into a fit of laughter over this, both of them looking absolutely ridiculous, it was certainly a good thing they were alone, she didnโ€™t want to imagine their servants faces seeing them in such a state. Christine continued to giggle before standing closer to her husband, placing her arms around his shoulders.
โ€œI believe we look something akin to royalty right now, Iโ€™m sure all the nobles would appreciate our attempts at hight fashion, darling.โ€

Although Christine could tell he was struggling a little, he still seemed to be enjoying this, glancing back to the instructions every few seconds to ensure he was doing something right, which by the looks of it, he wasnโ€™t. But it was the thought that counted. She wondered if heโ€™d ever want to do this again sometime, maybe under the supervision of an actual cook so that they could properly learn, because honestly Christine wasnโ€™t that great of a teacher when it came to this.
When she turned her head, Christine could barely register that her husband was holding something before flour flew into her face, causing her to step back with a laugh once she realized what heโ€™d done.
โ€œOh you want to play that game?โ€ She grabbed an entire handful of the substance, much more than heโ€™d used, and dropped it all in his hair, the powder almost blending in with the blonde.

Oh, this was going to be fun.
โ€œNo idea, darling, I guess one cup just wasnโ€™t enough, but two made everything too dry, just wait until you get to the quarter measurements.โ€ It was hard not to laugh at his efforts, she wasnโ€™t great at this, but he was downright lost. It was hard to focus on her own tasks when Raoul couldnโ€™t stop sneezing and getting flour everywhere, including his face.
It honestly didnโ€™t really matter if everything was perfect, Christine was certainly enjoying this, hopefully Raoul wasnโ€™t too confused to not have fun, he was clearly rather concentrated though. Over time, she was finding it more and more difficult to not laugh at his antics and the fact that his face still had flour all over it.

Honestly, Christine wasnโ€™t entirely sure how this would go. Neither of them were great at cooking or baking, given that Raoul grew up with servents and she grew up in a dormitory that had its own cooks, they didnโ€™t have much experience. But how hard could pancakes be to make? Seemed simple enough.
As she took out some of the ingredients to lay on the table, she could see that her husband already looked confused on what to do, watching her closely once she began cracking the eggs into a bowl.
โ€œYou could measure the dry ingredients, Iโ€™m pretty sure the measuring cups are in there.โ€ Christine pointed to another cupboard before going back to her own task, she was sure as long as they followed the recipe that everything would be fine. She just wanted today to go well, and it really wasnโ€™t helping that she was starting to get a headache.

If all else failed, Christineโ€™s gentle kisses and words would do the trick, after a year of marriage and years of friendship, she knew what he was like, how sometimes it was difficult for him to deal with certain situations. It was never anything too drastic, but she did learn over time how to keep him calm, regardless of the circumstances.
With the basket in his hand and Christine holding onto the other, the couple went back home, greeted by some of their servants who were quite surprised that theyโ€™d left so early, it was then Christine realized they probably should have let someone know, given that this was quite out of the ordinary for them, but they simply let them know what their plans were, and that theyโ€™d be using the kitchen. Once inside, Christine set everything down, removing her gloves and bonnet before putting on an apron and tying her hair back.
โ€œAlright, Monsieur Le Vicomte, shall we begin?โ€

Eventually his features softened, the scared look on his face turned to a much more relaxed one, they were going to be just fine. Christine took both his hands in hers and pressed a kiss to his knuckles, her grip on his hands tightening.
โ€œLetโ€™s go home, okay? Honestly this is all becoming a little much for me too, Iโ€™d rather just be at home with my lovely husband,โ€ They were in public still, she wasnโ€™t going to get too lovey dovey, but she really wanted to properly kiss him right now, it would have to wait. โ€œWe can make breakfast and then the rest of the day is hours to do whatever we please, we could stay in bed the rest of the day for all I care, as long as itโ€™s with you.โ€

There was no Phantom anymore, there wasnโ€™t anyone hellbent on tearing them apart, no one threatening them and there was especially no one at this market that was trying to pull them apart, it was simply unfortunate that Christine had become distracted and that the crowd they were in were so forceful. Neither really had anything to actually worry about, Christine was trying to tell herself that, and she hoped she could get Raoul to see it too.
โ€œIโ€™m completely fine, no bumps, no bruises.โ€ They were separated less than a minute and her husband was already a wreck over this, she hated to see him like this but also knew how to handle it by this point. โ€œAre you alright?โ€

As the couple began making their way out of the market, they noticed how it became a little more rushed, Christine was still in a bit of a daze, so she wasnโ€™t as focused as before, leading her to loosen her grip on her husband. She suddenly felt as several people pushed past them, not caring about the fact that they were literally holding onto each other, but once she cleared up a little, she realized she was no longer beside Raoul, in fact, she couldnโ€™t even see him.
Whilst she kept a level head, knowing he couldnโ€™t have gotten far and that he most certainly was still in the market, Christine knew heโ€™d be in a panic. And it wasnโ€™t like she wasnโ€™t freaking out a little internally, they both most certainly had anxieties about being apart, not knowing if the other was safe or not, the feeling was pretty much unavoidable given what they had gone through a little over a year ago now.
It only took a few seconds before she heard her name being called through the crowd, she turned at the familiar voice and followed it, shoving her way through just as they did with her, she didnโ€™t care if people gave her looks, they did it first anyways. Christine glanced around, and eventually she spotted a blonde man with a frantic look on his face, yes, that was most certainly her husband. She pushed herself towards him and took his hand, making sure he knew it was her.
โ€œIโ€™m right here, Iโ€™m here, I was only away for a few seconds, itโ€™s alright, my love.โ€ She reassured, it seemed like his anxiety was only getting worse lately, it was a good thing they had the whole day together, maybe after a slightly stressful morning they could have the rest of the day to relax. Christine tugged on his hand and pulled him out of the more crowded area, keeping his focus on her.

Her cheeks darkened at his response, similarly to his own reaction to her comment. Christine honestly wasnโ€™t as sure about it though, as sweet and loving as she was, she didnโ€™t have a mother in her early years, and Madame Giry, kind as she was for taking her in after her father passed, wasnโ€™t exactly the warmest person. She always assumed it would just come naturally to a person, but after getting older she realized that wasnโ€™t always the case, and it seemed she was at a disadvantage not having a mother herself growing up.
Christine was soon pulled out of her thoughts as she heard the familiar sound of a violin playing, the gentle melody coming from some buskers beside the market. The music only added to mixed feelings, on one hand, she had grown up with her father playing violin for a living, it brought her comfort knowing no matter what happened, his music would always be there for her. On the other hand, it also brought up more recent memories, ones that involved a certain masked man that tormented both her and Raoul, along with the entire opera house. She gripped onto her husbandโ€™s arm a little tighter, looking back down at her basket.
โ€œI-I think we have enough, we should go back home.โ€
