The older I get the more I admire people who are earnestly, genuinely into whatever their thing is. I know it sounds like an annoying cliche but unless you're being cruel or hurtful there is really no need to be normal about things. The dude with the bad fake accent at the renaissance faire is having the time of his life. The people having photoshoots with their fashion dolls are loving it. The old lady with a yard unreasonably full of tacky ass lawn ornaments is having a blast, HOA be damned.

Don't waste your time being too cool to have fun, y'know?

honestly though what people lack is just basic human compassion because how else can you reduce tony’s final cap 3 reaction to the usual “spoiled brat” talk while completely skipping over the fact that zemo dug deep into the throes of his history and came up with a way to emotionally eviscerate him and hone him into a loose canon to destroy steve, a friend tony spent the whole movie trying to protect. tony’s history and undigested pain were used to twist him up so that steve would lose everything. tony was used as a weapon, not in a hydra-brainwashing sense or a supersoldier sense, but in the most BASIC, HUMAN SENSE where he is LITERALLY CORRUPTED BY GRIEF

and it’s not something that just ~happens good lord guys he was literally emotionally tortured o n s c r e e n and yeah yeah yeah i know!! bucky was tortured too!! no ones saying he wasn’t but people ARE saying tony just acted out of entitlement and complete lack of empathy like fuck off

#in general I get so defensive about tony stark bc so often….SO often…. #so often the criticisms I see make me go ‘do you have basic human compassion?’

people always talk about leaving comments on ao3 like it's a nice thing to do, or the best way to encourage writers to keep writing, or overall like it's how you Do Your Part in fandom

and yeah, all those things are true, but having spent the past few months leaving enthusiastic comments on as many things as i can, i have a different perspective

you should leave comments on fics because it's fun

taking the time to stop and focus on what i like about a story has made me way more aware of what's going on in stories and what i like about them. there's bit more actual comprehension and appreciation and not just beaming content into my eyes to fill time

i like noticing cool little things in fics, or riffing on funny events. i've never been very good at speculating or picking apart characters, but sometimes something clicks and it rocks.

and of course it's pretty nice when you get a response and it's clear you've made another person happy

so yeah, you should leave comments for your own sake, too. it makes reading better!

i'm so glad goncharov happened when it did, right before prolific public use of AI. that was pure honest gaslighting straight from the heart. real human whimsicality and trickery thru blood sweat and tears. we were a family. and we all gonched, together. you cant replicate that with any machine.

Iron Man 1 really said "the actual bad guy is the white capitalist who is selling arms under the table to both sides in order to extend the war and make as much money from it as possible," and Iron Man 2 really said "the white capitalist who gives a platform to people with bad intentions in order to make a buck is the reason the bad intentions have the opportunity to prosper and cause untold damage," and Iron Man 3 really said "the real terrorist is the white capitalist who will create and use fear to manipulate governments and the public in order to sell a product," and I really don't think enough people recognise this.

#the iron man movies do not always have the cleanest execution out of the mcu #but I DO think they are some of the MOST We Have Something To Say movies in the mcu #they are not perfect but they are bold and thoughtful

i think what irks me most about the way people, in canon AND fandom, treat tony stark is that they fully ignore his motivations and the communication he’s doing through his behavior. behavior IS communication, and yet everyone around tony ignores all of his desperate attempts to reach out for help bc he never explicitly directly says “im scared, i need help, something wrong”. like, so many actions are rooted in his fear of everything around him but they become seen as egotistical just people people think he’s doing them to put himself on a pedestal, rather than to keep himself vigilant.

anyways if i read any more Avengers fics in which Tony Stark wears sunglasses indoors “because it’s cool” without any other allusion to his paranoia or health problems, im moving to jupiter
