I Wanted To Die

At 13 years old, I wanted to die.

I wrote myself a letter,

Told myself to get better

Because no one should suffer as much as I.

 At 14 years old, I wanted to leave.

Pack my life into boxes,

Throw them in the ocean,

And I knew it could be that easy.

 At 15 years old, I wanted to quit,

The miserable game

I decided to play,

To blow out the candle of life I’d lit.

 At 16 years old, I wanted to know

What it felt like to live,

What I had to give,

But I knew I wouldn’t let it show.

 At 17 years old, I wanted help.

From the darkness they would guide me.

From myself they would save me,

And that was the most free I’ve felt.

 At 18 years old, I wanted to live.

I read through the letter

That told me to get better

And I smiled, and told myself ‘I did’.
