30 things Taylor taught me by the time she turns 30

HAPPY 30th BIRTHDAY TAYLOR! Over the past 13 years you have taught me and so many others so many valuable life lessons whether you’ve realised you have or not. So I’ve put together 30 you have taught me. I am so so so proud of you and I love you so much, I hope you see this and have an amazing birthday. Love Ella 💗

1- Be kind and others will be kind back. You need to treat others the way you want to be treated. You will get a lot further in life and gain the trust of better people if you just simply be kind.

2- In saying that, something Taylor learnt with us watching is that you don’t have to always be kind. There are going to be people a long the way who (no I’m not going to say undercut your success ahah) try to bring you down with them and being kind is not going to get you out of that situation sometimes people need a wake up call to realize what they’re doing is wrong.

3- Be yourself. You are you and nobody else and as much as we want to change who we are it’s not possible and we have to live with who we are for the rest of our lives so if you’re not yourself what kind of a life is that. So embrace and show who you are.

4- Except your body for what it is. As you get older and grow mentally you’re going to change and grow physically something Taylor had to do in the public eye but everyone is going to look different from when they’re 17-22 or 25-28 everyone changes it doesn’t mean it’s bad, most of the time it’s good it’s just natural. I’m still working on this as a teenager myself and I couldn’t imagine right now with the insecurities I already have having millions of people also pointing out those insecurities but Taylor has learned and shown us that everyone is different and it doesn’t matter what shape or size you are everyone is beautiful.

5- Some friends just aren’t meant to be. You don’t have to be friends with everyone. Some people just don’t get along so finding the people you get along with and trust the most is so important.

6- Dance if nobody else is dancing. Taylor dancing at award shows when no one else is dancing to amazing artists putting on amazing performances just makes me want to be there and dance with her so bad like I never understand why celebrities don’t dance.

7- There is always going to be haters. No matter what you do in life if you’re a pop star or work a 9-5 desk job there’s always going to be people who don’t agree with what you do or say because we can’t make everyone happy.

8- Help others who might not be able to help themselves. Something I’d like to work on more Taylor has always made time for sick and underprivileged fans who don’t have it as lucky as the rest of us. She doesn’t charge money to meet her and gives everyone the same chances and opportunities no matter their situation and I’ll always admire her for that.

9- Love who you are. Taylor being in the public eye was constantly judged for her personality and the decisions she’s made throughout her life but I feel like her coming into the new era and decade she’s finally learned to love herself and not care about the opinions of people who don’t know her. Taylor once said “I think it’s important to be self-aware about what people are saying about you, but even more so, be very aware of who you actually are, and to have that be the main priority.” Which I think is so important to remember.

10- Don’t have any regrets. Taylor said in her recent billboard interview that she wouldn’t go back and tell her nearly twenty year old self anything because everything she has done she’s grown from and has taught her important lessons which I have to remind myself of a lot. That everything happens for a reason and I will get to where I am meant to be in the future if I surround myself with the right people.

11- Have fun. You can’t take life to seriously sometimes. I love the videos online that are like “Taylor being herself for 4min straight” she can be so goofy sometimes and as much as I love her inspirational speeches I also love her weirdo side especially on tumblr I feel like it makes us connect with her more and makes us realize she’s a real person not just this perfect celebrity image people create in their heads of celebrities. In her billboard interview she said that on tumblr she feels like she’s having a joke with friends (the “they literally drag me” part got me 😂 because it’s so true) and I never want her to not feel like that I’m so glad it’s a platform she can go to get away from all the chaos and just have fun.

12- Accept everyone for who they are. Taylor is a big advocate for this as we know from YNTCD. We should accept everyone no matter what race, sexuality, gender or religion. Everyone is equal even if you don’t agree with what someone else is doing that’s their life so let them live it how they want it’s not affecting you.

13- Surround yourself with people you love. You don’t need a big group of friends to keep you happy it’s those few friends that stick by you and always support you no matter what that you need to keep by your side. Through the last few years and all the controversies Taylor’s been through recently it’s really brought out her true friends.

14- It’s ok to not be ok, it doesn’t matter who you are everyone has bad days that’s normal and it’s part of life everyone has them especially celebrities. No matter how perfect we think celebrities lives are they are all still human.

15- All women are equal to men and should be treated that way! I believe no gender should be higher than another and Taylor has made herself clear that she believes men and women should get equal rights. I do often wonder if Taylor was a man if she would’ve gotten to where she is in her career now faster and I think maybe she would have but I think without Taylor making such an impact on the music industry as a female singer/songwriter and getting to where she has as a female is incredible and has made such a big impact on females in the industry.

16- “we scroll through the internet looking at the highlight reel of other peoples awesome lives. We don’t see the behind the scenes of their lives so why compare ourselves to them” we don’t know everything that goes on in someone else’s lives whether it’s a celebrity or a really close friend or even a family member we don’t know everyone’s struggles most people only share the good parts of their lives with the world but we have to remind ourselves everyone has their own struggles

17- “you are not somebody else’s opinion of you. You are not damaged goods because of mistakes you have made, mistakes make you wiser and stronger” I don’t even think this one needs an explanation.

18- “don’t let other people try and take credit for what you have accomplished” if you have made something, achieved something and someone tries to steal that from you or try and tell people they helped you get there don’t let them have that power stand your own ground.

19- You can chose your friends but you can’t chose your family. No matter what your family is always going to be your family you can’t change that even when you’re super mad at them they’re going to be there tomorrow when you wake up so he grateful for them. Through the beautiful songs Taylor’s written about her family, the videos we’ve gotten, her mum and dad being at her concerts and her relationship with Austin (when they have Easter egg hunt wars it’s so cute) you can just tell she loves them more than anything in the world.

20- You can’t let other people have control over how you feel. If you let people have that sort of power over you they’re just going to take advantage of it.

21- If you don’t want someone to know something that is ok. In relation to Taylor this is more about her being able to keep her private life private for example Joe and she did just that for months but it’s taught me in my life as well that i don’t have to tell everyone everything.

22- Every couple of years Taylor takes over words and makes them her’s. I don’t think anyone on this earth can go through a 22nd Birthday without someone saying “I’m feeling 22” to them or someone saying you need to calm down, bad blood, you belong with me, we are never ever getting back together in a sentence without getting a Taylor song stuck in their head and I love it 😂

23- People are going to let you down in life. You can’t rely on others to always be there and to rise to your expectations because in life people you trust and have known for years can go behind your back and let you down for reasons you will never understand and it’s going to hurt like a bitch but you can’t control that so you can’t let other people ruin your life.

24- Not everything in life is perfect even if someone else’s life seems perfect you don’t see behind the scenes. I have to remind myself a lot about this one with Taylor herself. It seems like she has such a perfect life but we don’t see what goes on 99% of the time. In that 1% we actually see we also see some of the bad but we don’t know how much that actually affects her we can only comfort her over the Internet to how we think she may be feeling.

25- Make sure you do what you love. I’m not sure what I want to do when I leave school yet I know I love photography but I don’t know how to make it a career yet I just know that whatever I end up doing I want to love and enjoy it everyday. I know Taylor loves what she does and I only hope I can enjoy what I do as much as she does in the future.

26- You can make friends over the Internet. This is more indirect but I learnt this because of Taylor. The amount of friends I’ve made because of this common interest I would’ve never have imagined I could do before I made my account and I will forever be grateful for them all being a part of my life.

27- Be proud of what you stand for and what you love. I’ve copped my fair share of mean comments about me loving and supporting Taylor so much and even for a while tried to hide what makes me happy from my friends but recently I’ve finally given up on hiding it and don’t care what others think or have to say about it anymore. Just like how Taylor expresses her love for cats so much 😹

28- Leading on from the last one cats are the superior pet. I’ve only ever had cats as pets before (besides fish) I’ve always wanted a dog but cats are just so cuddly and cute especially Meredith, Olivia and Benji I love how we’ve gotten to see the cats grow over the years as well 🥺

29- Taylor is always going to be there for us even though it might not be directly I can always turn to her music or anything to do with her online to help me get through tough times. There’s literally a song for every emotion.
