I’ve finally started on part 1 of my Hook AU, which is actually John Dory-centric, because this will be the only time we will ever read his POV since yk, he dies.

Another thing to notice in that scene is when Branch reminds them they have to save Floyd, in the background JD is taking a deep breath as if trying to calm himself down/keeping his cool so he doesn’t yell at them or something else.

And then when JD jokes that Branch can’t expect them to all live together like the old days, it can be also be interpreted that he’s convincing himself that once they save Floyd, he expects them all to go their own lives, without JD being present because he doesn’t expect his brothers to want him around.

i’m so torn up abt the fight before branch poppy and tiny leave…

john dory getting caught up in his old role- having actually /seen/ floyd too, there’s a reality to the situation that adds pressure (HMM kinda like expectations from the crowd in BroZone days)

unfortunately, because of that pressure john dory falls back into that headspace and gets over critical of their performances (he doesn’t say his own criticisms outloud, but he never does which leads to younger bros feeling unfairly treated [WHICH IS FAIR] when jd is just struggling with perfectionism feeling the band is entirely his responsibility as the oldest and since he started it… not the sum of its parts. like he knows they’re all talented ofc he just couldn’t separate that from the performance as a whole. this was its own tangent)

clay and bruce get triggered, and they end up ganging up on john dory. poppy attempts to diffuse the situation and we see john look at her with appreciation. but bruce n clay finally have a chance after all these years to vent their frustrations - especially since in their eyes nothing /has/ changed with john dory in reference to managing the band.

(all the while branch is doing the same stressed stim from when he was a baby ARRGH)

but, like before, jd is getting riled up and tries to defend himself. it’s a lot of responsibility - the feelings that have been brought up remind him of why he left —

“Why do you think I left!? So nobody would treat me like you did.”

to hear that from bruce, who both the brother JD has spent the most time with and potentially troll altogether depending on how isolated he was during the separation… there’s layers to what jd mentions about being the oldest and responsibility. we see no parents, and regardless eldest children are often coparents and JD stands for Jeldest Daughter. anyway,,

clay raises his voice to correct jd when he deadnames bruce /again/ and… jd gives clay and bruce exactly what they want. (they don’t want to be around him. it’s abundantly clear.) he needs to diffuse the situation no matter how much it hurts. they’ll go their separate ways after saving floyd… and.. unfortunately he hits right on branch’s insecurities. so jd managed to hurt all his brothers in extremely personal ways…

and then bruce belittles branch “don’t be such a baby” (bruce you gotta take a deep breath big big) and.. branch, in all his hurt he feels towards john dory, can relate to him. the oldest and the youngest. not allowed to change. always seen as bossy or as a baby from the nature of their birth order.

we see john dory step forward, and regret and recognition on his face.

idk i wish they had all gone after branch when he left, but i realize for the narrative it worked perfectly…

Part 1 Part 2

After answering a whole questionnaire to better understand my own character, I know Hook better now.

Here’s what I have about him:

Hook is about to turn 17 years old

The only memory he has of John Dory is as he would describe it : “I remember being held by a warm embrace… he was telling me something… but I can’t remember what it was. Pops thinks it must’ve been him telling me he loves me but it doesn’t feel right…”

Hook is big on family, which is why he despises Barb’s siblings for abandoning them, and why despite feeling hesitant about carrying through with Barb’s plan, he stands by her side- This is what helps solidify his relationship with Branch, and why it crushes him later when he finds out his own biological father walked out on his siblings

He prefers punk rock

Due to the Rock trolls’ harsh environment, he released Rhonda back to the wilderness when he was a toddler but they meet up monthly at the border, usually accompanied by an adult or Barb

He unknowingly inherited the ability to get along with critters by JD

He has arthritis, partly because he was born prematurely (his egg cracked in the accident) that caused health conditions and partly because he inherited it from JD

The only friends he has are the ones that tend to hang around Barb due to not making an effort to socialize

Despite being raised by Rock trolls, he still shows characteristics of a Pop troll, such as being energetic (from I understand and might recon later, rock trolls are lazy outside of performing/concerts, being more chill) and a preference for glitter

Due to his bright appearance, he tends to stick out from his peers, which makes him self conscious and makes him more prone to stay at the Royal fortress

With King Thrash’s order in effect, the adults at first merely ignored him and warned their kids to stay away

Despite this, other Rock trolls believed he was one of them and didn’t isolate him, sometimes even letting him babysit their kids

However, he still faced veiled insults about his Pop-like characteristics

Once he finds out about John Dory and his ties to Pop trolls, he’ll decide to travel around, dwelling at Pop village when possible

His relationship with Brozone will be a separate post since it’s still in the drafts

Still working on my Hook story but in honor of John Dory winning sexyman of February, I’m going to make a short story of which member of present Brozone is the most handsome/sexy/cute (idk what to call it), with Poppy and Viva trying to have Branch/Clay win, Bruce helping Floyd’s campaign, and John Dory just chilling in the background. This makes it all the more funny when JD wins. Probably gonna have Cloud Guy help him or something for shits and giggles.

What does Hook know about JD? Like you mentioned he has Rhonda, was he able to find anything about JD in/from her?

I really like your AU and can’t wait to read more about it!

Due to JD having found Rhonda as a baby, there actually isn’t anything inside her. He decided to take her with him because he was fond of her and figured that baby Hook could play with her as they both grew up together.

King Thrash also didn’t know much about JD, and decided he’d tell Hook about his Pop origins once he was much older. He also orders the other Rock trolls to stay silent on the matter, as he doesn’t want Hook to question whether he belongs with them or not. As far as he’s concerned, Hook is now family. That, and Barb has grown attached to him.

This is also why Hook was willing to meet his uncles, so he could learn more about JD but due to being compared/mistaken for him, he grows to resent him and wants nothing to do with him.

Hay love the au and I'm curious, what was hook's name suppose to be?

Tbh, I don’t know either. Or at least I haven’t decided on a name just yet. I can say that the name would be a nature theme. Fun fact, while Hook’s name is a reference to music, it’s also a pun to hooks capturing fish, like John Dory. :)

While I do plan to have Branch remember his name by the end of the story, I’m debating keeping it a mystery. This is due to Hook having to remind the brothers he’s not his father, which after a confrontation gone wrong, he decides he wants nothing to do with him.

Part 1

In continuation to my Hook AU, I’ll be skimming over Clay and Viva’s situation and share a few ideas on how Clay would react to the news:

In the escape from Bergen Town, Poppy is like a year old and Branch is a bit older than her, he’s almost 3 (mostly because I don’t know what Poppy’s age is)

Brozone and Grandma Rosiepuff are still alive and are present for the escape

Their parents had died right before Branch’s first birthday

Viva and some of the other trolls are still separated in the tunnels

Suffering from this loss, King Peppy encourages Brozone to start a concert again as they are the last band with all members present, in hopes to boost troll morale

Due to this pressure, John Dory pushes all of his brothers to be at their very best, which causes a strain for his brothers, especially Clay who is grieving Viva

King Peppy is the one who tells John Dory about the perfect family harmony, which only causes more pressure for the brothers once JD ends up promising other trolls they’d pull it off

They spilt up like in canon, leaving Branch with their Grandma as they are now safe from the Bergens and have no reason to worry

On Clay’s journey, which takes a few months, he stumbles upon the Putt Putt Trolls and Viva, who had believed they were the only survivors

Assuring Viva that they had successfully relocated, he is able to coax some of the trolls to go with him to prove it’s safe

However, when they go back, the new village is deserted, and Clay’s brothers and Grandma are nowhere to be found

Clay then goes back with the Putt Putt trolls and helps Viva as a co-leader, growing up to wonder if his older siblings had survived or not

The overall idea of this is that Branch and Rosiepuff had been left behind because the brothers genuinely didn’t think they’d be in danger now that the trolls were away from the Bergens

As for why the new tree had been deserted, Rosiepuff is taken by Chef, which a few trolls had ended up witnessing, and once King Peppy hears of this, he has his people move further into the forest as he is not willing to lose any more trolls

Branch, now grey and an outcast, goes with them as he does not wish to let Rosiepuff’s sacrifice be in vain, hence why is obsessed with building the bunker, to be safe and alive

My ideas with how Clay reacts to the news of JD’s death and his newly 17-year old son who had been raised by the Rock Trolls

He’s angry that JD died, that he hadn’t gone through with the idea of looking for him at the Neverglade Forest like he had planned to when he came back from the deserted village

He’s resentful that he would never be able to yell at JD for the role he pushed him in, that he’ll never be able to find out if JD would’ve apologized, if he’d accept the troll he had become

He’s wary and uncertain towards Hook, JD’s son, because he looks so much like his father and he acts like him sometimes, that anger boils inside of him

However, Hook is the last remnant of JD and his nephew, so he tries his best to bond with him and pretend everything is okay

Whenever Hook asks Clay about JD, he either refuses to say anything or has him ask Bruce or Floyd

Clay also tries to be friendly with the Rock Trolls, though their interactions are awkward once he finds out about Queen Barb and the strings

Clay’s role may change as I am still in the drafts with deciding how Hook’s relationship would be with the brothers and how that affects the events from the third movie. Heck, I’m still debating whether it should be Hook who gets captured, just so Brozone finds out they have to save the son of their dead brother and a bigger risk of the Family Harmony not working.

Next part will be more about Hook :)

I’ve had multiple JD AUs in mind but the one I’m most fixated on writing rn is:

- “Hook”

Some info in this AU, trolls can reproduce an egg by asexual reproduction or two trolls have strong feelings for each other that it can manifest through an egg

Another thing to add, the trolls had managed to escape from Bergen Town before Brozone split up, and the Family Harmony was meant to be their first concert in the new Troll village as a way to celebrate

What changes is that once their Grandma’s taken by the Chef and Branch turns grey, King Peppy decides they need to relocate once again, which none of the brother were aware of (I’ll get in detail with Viva and Clay’s situation later)

While exploring the Neverglade Forest and having an egg, he also finds baby Rhonda

The egg reminds him of his brothers, especially Bitty B, and wanting his egg to grow up with his family, he decides to head back

Something goes wrong though and while severely injured, stumbles near the Rock Trolls, where King Thrash and toddler Barb were on a stroll of sorts

Despite clearly being a pop troll, King Thrash does wish to see egg orphaned so he does his best to save JD

Unfortunately, his injuries were too severe and the doctors note that him being able to get close to the Rock Volcano from the Neverglades was a miracle

The egg does hatch and JD gets to hold him before his death but isn’t able to slip out the name he wanted for him (Branch actually knows as JD had once told him as a baby what he would name his children if he had any but his memory won’t be jogged until the end of the fic)

Barb is the one who names him, which is Hook

Hook is then raised by the Rock Trolls, who don’t treat him any differently as he was basically one of them

Rhonda is raised by them as well, her being Hook’s and Barb’s “secret” hideout

Hook helps Barb in World Tour and meets Poppy when she’s captured, who is shocked to meet him as he’s nearly identical to JD from Brozone

He briefly explains that he had been raised by the Rock Trolls, he has no loyalty to the Pop Trolls and is doing it because he feels it’s the least he can do for Barb

Branch doesn’t meet him until after the strings are ripped and every genre gets their color back

Think of it like the scene from Secret of the Wings where Tinker Bell meets Periwinkle, with Branch seeing a familiar silhouette and calling out “John Dory?”

King Thrash has a strong reaction to that name (he had forgotten his name, only knowing he was named after a fish), which prompts Barb and Hook to turn around, Branch going through a mix of emotions at seeing someone who looks identical to JD standing right before him

Cue Branch starting to tear up and growling in frustration/hurt when Hook gets defensive over King Thrash while asking who John Dory is

I already have ideas for Band Together but I feel like I should save them until I’m done with this first part first (there’s define a lot of angst)
