The Owl House Theory: The Bard Leader, R, and the lunch money thief are all the same person.

It’s pretty obvious now that the bard leader in the season 2 promos and “R” from Eda’s scrapbook in WILW are the same person. Same round glasses, skin tone, hair colour, and earrings. R studied bard magic at Hexside and is currently the Bard Coven leader. She appears to be around the same age as Eda and is an adult now. The scrapbook photo shows that they were friends at Hexside, noting that this is before Eda dropped out. That brown bag she is carrying in the photo is possibly her violin.

Now to connect her to the lunch money thief:

In the incident reports at the end of SVSF, one of them says that someone stole Lilith’s lunch money. Eda then creates an abomination army to get it back, but creates more trouble. The thief teams up with the sisters to stop the abominations which formed into one larger one. It’s possible the photo was taken after the incident. After things got resolved, Eda befriended R which isn’t too unlikely since Eda is a troublemaking scam artist. They are all wearing their uniforms and Lilith has a backpack so they could’ve just left school. Lilith is unhappy in the picture since R stole her money and then her sister befriended said thief. It fits Lilith’s personality to be mad at a something like this. In the Look Hooo’s Talking for the episode, the owl hosts specifically bring up this incident and show a big question mark when the thief is brought up. So it’s likely that they’re going to be important later.

Season 2 episode 7 is titled “Eda’s Requiem”. Google’s definition of requiem is: a “musical composition setting parts of a requiem Mass, or of a similar character”. So, the episode is music related and therefore potentially bard magic is gonna appear. (If bard magic does get shown, it’s about time. I’ve been wondering how it works.) The episode synopsis states: “A special witch from Eda's past enlists her in a rebellion against the Emperor”. The clues point to this witch being R/the Bard Leader. If they are the lunch thief, well, rebelling against an order obsessed, repressive Belos seems like something a thief would do.

The Owl House Season 2 Episode 1-5 Theories

We’ve got episode titles and synopses for season 2 which means I must overanalyze things.

If we take the first letter of each title like in season 1, we get S-E-E-K-T. So “seek t-”.

SEPARATE TIDES: It continues on the storyline of Eda losing her powers after YBOS. So like Dana said in her Reddit AMA, her bile sac is useless. But in the new intro, we see Eda using magic with her staff since it does have some stored magic in it. Luz is "sets sail” which means more world building and locations. As for “lucrative bounty to help the Owl House”, I’m guessing since Eda has no powers and no portal, it’ll be harder for her to earn money. This is where Luz tries to help. Considering that the water around the Isles is boiling and likely is home to many monsters, this’ll be an interesting journey,

ESCAPING EXPULSION: Amity’s parents make their official appearance. Since they can get Luz, Willow, and Gus expelled, they must have some power over Hexside, like in UW when they can prevent Willow from enrolling. This also brings up the question of why Alador and Odalia want the three expelled in the first place. They previously viewed Willow as weak, although she is far from that now. But what about Gus, and more importantly Luz? Is it because she’s a human? Because she has ties to Eda and Lilith? Do Alador and Odalia think Willow, Gus, and Luz to be bad influences on Amity? Whatever the reason, I hope their story extends to throughout the season and not one of those “fix everything in one episode” things, especially considering how they’ve been (implied to) control Amity’s life for so long. But considering this is only episode 2, it’s possible it’ll become an overarching subplot. And I hope the twins get involved in this. I want to see how their relationship with their parents. Final point: Luz is the one to strike a deal, not Amity. Interesting.

ECHOES OF THE PAST: King backstory? King seems to play an important role this episode and the word “past” is used in the title. We haven’t gotten much on his background, so about god damn time. Lilith will be a part of story. It’ll be interesting to see how she interacts with the crew. No mention of Eda. Subplot maybe? But Hooty? If they’re going to a new island will he just stretch there? Or will he finally leave the Owl House? In Dana’s livestream in like September, Hooty leaves the Owl House was one of the things mentioned in her 2 lies, 1 truths. If he does leave, how will he move with no appendages? Does he slither around like a giant bird snake? Like Separate Tides, there’s a new location and it seems to also involve travel by boat. From the first image of the episodes, we see a harbour so possibly from one of the two episodes. Also, sailing and islands seem to be a theme this season.

KEEPING UP A-FEAR-ANCES: I’m betting that this family member will be Gwendolyn as the VA confirmed that she is Eda’s mother set to appear this season. “Unwelcome visit” and “strain” implies conflict with her. Will she be disappointed that her daughters are jobless outlaws hiding from the Emperor’s Coven? What will she think of a human living with them? Or maybe she will be a free-spirited scammer like Eda? “A-fear-ances” is a play on “appearances”. So maybe Eda and Lilith have to keep up the appearance that everything is going well in their lives

THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS RUINS: The ruins might be the location in the second image. Looks mysterious, like something is hidden there. Also it’s the Boiling Isles, so duh danger, right? A looking glass is essentially a mirror. A mirror is the symbol of the illusion coven/track. So I guess this is how it relates to Gus. Gus hasn’t had much development in season 1 so it’s good that he gets to be in the spotlight more. I thought Glandus was Hexside’s rival? So I’m interested to see how Gus interacts with them. Is Gus not happy with the friends he has? Maybe that’s why he wants to get on good terms with these so-called “cool kids”? As for the B-plot, we’re getting Lumity. Hoping that it’s just the two of them alone. I want to see how they are around each other now, without other people. Like will Amity continue to be a disaster lesbian and will Luz continue to be oblivious as heck. There’s the fact that it’s the library, which is arguably the location where they really start to work towards being friends. I’m also wondering why they’re going to the dangerous section in the first place. And of course, the Boiling Isles would make a library dangerous.

Overall, there is no mention of Belos, Kikimora, or the owl spy. Which makes me wonder what the Emperor’s coven’s role is this season. None of the above backgrounds (seemingly) feature anything related to them either as opposed to the season 1 episode synopses which had one with the Emperor’s castle. However, they are featured in the new intro which implies that they will have a significant role this season. They better, with Belos’s portal, the Day of Unity, et cetera.
