Hot Take: I don't think Etho's Wool Castle is a trap or anything. I think the man genuinely just wanted to build out of something that wouldn't take forever to gather. Some rambly reasoning under the cut.

A) GATHERING RESOURCES SUCKS

-they only have 3 hours each session. It's reasonable he'd rather not spend that time grinding for resources. Etho has talked in the past (I think it was in his TerraFirmaPunk series) that he doesn't love when you have to grind for resources, much preferring to be able to automate things.

-without a beacon or fully, WELL ENCHANTED gear, mining stone is like, a million times longer than shearing some sheep. Sheep: ~1 tick. Stone w/ an iron pickaxe: A lot Longer

-You have to move around to different sources of stone bc it's non-renewable. Unless you do a cobble generator, but that's boring . The sheep aren't really goin anywhere.

-Dogwarts took an episode to complete. The Crastle took over an episode to complete. BigB's Cookie castle took an episode to complete. Etho's wool castle took roughly 20 minutes. As a time saving strategy, it has clearly worked

B) FIRE PREVENTATIVE MEASURES

-He's in a swamp over water; it's the best biome for preventing fire spread, also you've either gotta go across the bridge or reach up to a wool area not by water to set fire to the main thing.

for further things he could do:

-he could slowly replace parts of the castle with non-flammable materials; that way it's a much more gradual gathering of resources

-he could water log blocks so they can't catch on fire

-he could build a redstone sprinkler system

-he could just be relying on the fact that even if it's burnt down it's easy to rebuild

-he could be relying on the fact that everyone on the server is terrified of him and thus wouldn't burn it down

-he could be relying on the fact that no matter how much trouble he stirs up, he always seems to be chill w/ everyone by the end of the session

C) NARRATIVE REASONS

-It's visually distinctive, and interesting. The contrast between the swamp and wool castle is nice. It also heavily contrasts with the other builds on the server, which are primarily stone or wood.

-It's just more his style! He's a trendsetter. he's weird. he's a weirdo. he doesn't fit in. He doesn't want to fit in. Have you ever seen him without that stupid headband on? That's weird. (also I lichrally can't remember the last time he used stone as the main block in a build. )

-If someone burns it down, it's just a good narrative beat, he can make callbacks to the beginning of the series, & it's a good reason for a revenge plot (I think he's just looking for excuses to do morally questionable things at this point)

-It's a red herring. "What should we do to get at Etho?" "Burn his castle": That probably won't hurt him that much. Every one can see the obvious weakness so they might not bother doing something that would actually kill him, or majorly set him back.

-He cares more about screwing with people than having a super secure base.

He’s not stupid nor is he afraid to spend some hours grinding for materials. He could’ve built that eyesore out of anything. “Easy to gather” my ass. So is cobblestone. So is wood.

He wants somebody to burn it because that’ll give him an excuse to just go all out on whatever poor soul decided to cross him.

He launched a missile at the Crastle, not because they had done anything in particular to him, but because he was bored

Etho is begging someone to give him a reason to start a war

The Stick, once used by Etho to bid for 12 bamboo and now proudly displayed in the Town Hall, is one of the most important assets of the server.

Its sole purpose is to vibe check any hermit that has gone long enough without rest - the density of The Stick is perfect for boinking people without leaving serious head trauma, and it has a very comfortable grip for the user. It is also very satisfying to swing.

Just about every single hermit (other than Bdubs and Wels) had been on the receiving end of The Stick at least once, but whenever its usage is required, multiple hermits will fight over the right to use it on the target.

Xisuma creates an interesting dilemma for wielders of The Stick. He has a strict enough schedule to not need much bonking, but when he does get too carried away with his work...how does one bonk him?? His helmet seems specifically designed to be an anti-bonking measure! The solution: go for the shins. X is tall and top-heavy; just place a bed down behind him and bönk the legs until his knees fold, and voila! Problem solved. :)

I think what a lot of white people genuinely do not understand is that all kinds of racism is bad. There isn't a ladder marked with "acceptable" and "unacceptable" racism.

- The person purposefully joking about your native name even after you've explained its spelling and pronunciation to them and begged them to use it correctly? Racist

- The person who is "okay with" racial minorities existing but doesn't want to see that portrayed on tv / doesn't feel like representation is necessary? Racist

-And I know. I know how hard it is when you are in a privileged position and you're being asked to care about things you don't know much about. But after someone has pointed it out to you, you better try to change.

- "but these mindsets don't hurt anyone" news flash, they do. Just because someone isn't throwing tear gas at protesters doesn't mean their bigotry isn't harmful!

- Put yourself in our shoes for a moment. How would you feel if someone told you they don't want to see anyone like you in the media they consume? That your identity is too complicated for them and they want to water it down to make it easier?

- Again, this is not targeted towards anybody or a callout post. I'm just asking you to take a very hard look at these little things because they GROW. No one comes out the womb being a white supremacist. These things start small and keep adding up.

Grian is a time traveler. he is canonically. at some point hermitcraft ends, and grian goes back to the season six world(via time travel). unfortunately he overshoots and ends up just in time for season 6 to begin. he shows up on the world just in time for iskall to run up and punch him in the face and to become a new hermit.

That's amazing! I imagine it was a very emotional moment, retuning after the end, seeing all those old familiar people...and then being absolutely decked by one of them. Ah, the good ol' days :)

"What's under Etho's mask?" People asked, they've been searching for an answer to this age old questions.

Theories being thrown around as pieces of clues being put together then pulled apart after realizing how ridiculous said theory is, rinse & repeat as the search for answer goes on and on.

Etho can only laugh at everyone's confusion & frustration as he pulled down his mask, revealing another, smaller identical mask underneath.

It's been 3 days, everyone has been staring at Etho for 72 whole hours, & yet Etho is still pulling down what seems like an infinite number of masks, only to reveal, yet another mask...

The universe simply will not allow his face to be percieved by others.

Whether this is a good thing or not is unknown. May the answer never be found.
