S.S. Magic
A silly video responding to South Florida’s susceptibility to severe flooding with even the slightest rain. It showcases governments’ disinterests in preventing Global Warming and how locals are being affected whenever heavy rain or a hurricane hits Miami. The addition of Ride of Valkyries is a song that coincides with the Vikings attack in the beginning of its act, marching to battle. For this boat, it’s sailing towards a sunken parking lot, or really, the entirety of Miami at some point.

Self-Directed Practice #1 - Final
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is Freedom?
Part 1 - The construction of this piece is to be similar to the public mailboxes scattered around towns and cities throughout the United States. “What is Freedom?” is a question to all Americans, citizens or immigrants. It’s asking them for their definition of “freedom” as we all arrive or remain here for our definition of oppurtunities. There are pens, stick notes, and a hand sanitizer (at the time of wiriting this, there’s a pandemic going on). The inidividual will write a short definition down and drop it intp the slot of the “mailbox” like they’re delivering a letter or ballot.
To be continued in Part 2 / Self Directed #2 - I wanted to take this to a public space and observe if others interact with it, and post their definitions and write a summary of it, if there’s any (hopefully)

Doors - Dialect of Outside and Inside : Final
Memematic Agony
Before entering your personal hell, wherever that may be.
For me, hell is the internet, with it’s layers formed within social media. Each site has their own layer, such as groups enganging in discussions over pornography, or other groups organizing trolling or misinformation campaigns for their own entertainment. Others would engage in violent acts such as doxxing and exposing personal lives of internet personalities. Purgatory would be the bubbles we put ourselves in, whichever layer we may be in. Each time I  open my computer, it’s like opening a door, or gate to a hell personally created by me, for me. A reflection of my interests, desires and evils inside me.

QCQ - The Dialectics of Outside and Inside
Quote: “Through what naïve intuition do we locate evil, which is boundless, in a hell? This spirit, this shade, this noise of a shade, noise of a shade which, the poet tells us, desires its unity , may be heard on the outside without it being possible to be sure that it is inside.”
Comment: It’s pretty rad first of all, second, on a spiritual level, the mind body and soul are their own spaces. In human nature, there is always some form of evil taking “space” within us. Whether it is corruption of the flesh, through decay or poisoning. The mind where evil thoughts and desires persist and the soul, where once corrupted, is forever damned. There’s no way to pinpoint where this evil come from but for human nature, it is boundless, eternal. It constantly seeks, like a parasite to consume and spread. It is a daily battle to balance the morality and evil taking space within the human body.
Question:
What is your definition of evil? Is it physical? Psychological or spiritual? What evil do you see in the world today?

Corners
When discussing corners, Gaston Bachelard in their book, Poetics of Space, refers to corners as a secluded space for the mind to imagine in isolation. Here I made a shrine using clay to mold something simple yet terrifying, with the sun hanging on a cross like object behind it, being lit up by only candles. As if you’re in a crypt. The home is the mind, this “corner” is the subconcious. Hidden away from unkowing eyes and free to imagine raw unfiltered thoughts such as this. It can only be peeked at by the host, as these raw ideas and thoughts are filtered when presented through the mind and eventually through tongue. I can’t begin to understand what I’m thinking in the vastness of my own subconcious and am only able to see what is filtered, like peeking through a hole.

QCQ - Corners
Quote:
“Every corner in a house, every angle in a room, every inch of secluded space in which we like to hide, or withdraw into ourselves, is a symbol of solitude for the imagination;”
Comment:
I interpret this statement as a viewpoint of how we process our creative ideas, subconscious or not. That idea we form is formed in the walls of our mind. They are formed from the experiences and trauma of our lives. Personally, I am reserved with my own ideas. Partly due to being unable to properly explain them most of the time, but also, I enjoy letting my imagination flow like a river in my mind. Feeling the emotion of it like water running through your fingers. It’s being in an isolation chamber, relaxed, focused.
Question:
What is your process in focusing the mind to visually imagine thoughts and ideas?
