CALL FOR PARTICIPATION; Maladaptive Daydreaming and Memory
We invite you to participate in our groundbreaking research into maladaptive daydreaming (MD) and its connection to memory. Led by esteemed researchers Prof. Eli Somer and Dr. Oren Herscu, this study aims to explore the intricate nuances of this phenomenon. Your participation is essential. Sharing your experiences and insights through a brief 15-minute questionnaire will help us deepen our understanding of the relationship between life experiences, MD, and memory. Together, we can improve the science behind MD and pave the way for potential treatments and interventions in this area. Your contribution could shape how we approach MD and its standing in the scientific world. Join us in unraveling the mysteries of the mind and memory. To participate, click the link: https://forms.gle/1a6YWwyZcFfTSVHe8. In case you have any questions, please reach out to me at: [email protected].

Is it possible for me to control the daydreaming? Or to become better do I have to give it up entirely?
MD can be controlled. Researchers recommend Mindfulness and tracking (jotting down when/howlong/trigger etc, bujo-style). Total elimination is not recommended.

Has anyone ever been daydreaming around a real person and have that person take the place of a para? Like I have this really close friend, and sometimes I’ll begin to daydream while cuddling with him, and in the daydream, I’m cuddling with a para I associate with him. We’ve talked about it, and he doesn’t mind it, but I’m worried another person will be uncomfortable with it. Anyone experience this?

Hello!! I’m not sure if I am an mder, but I have been researching it and it seems to be me. I daydream a lot, often during school/class, and have always been called a daydreamer by my family and teachers. It hinders my class work as I don’t listen because of it and once I’m aware and pull myself (begrudgingly) out of it, I have to ask my friends for help. It annoys me when I get pulled out of my daydreams. I have reoccurring worlds and characters. I can name two off the top of my head that were recent that went on for a while. It was only in one ever that I was myself, as I am usually a character from my special interest in these daydreams (or at least seeing the world through their eyes and brain). But, I don’t pace or mumble to myself, though I don’t know if this is also because I’m semi verbal and always am during class, and I don’t pace because I have a lot of pain in my legs most days (and at home I usually play minecraft mindlessly and listen to music while daydreaming). Not all my daydreams are reoccurring, most of the time just random stuff, though there are a few that come back very frequently. I don’t want to get better, even though it makes me struggle with school and can make me unproductive (I’d rather daydream about my fic than write it, I’d rather daydream about the characters i love than have a shower, brush my teeth, etc.) because it makes me happier. Since I’ve been researching more and been more aware of it, I’ve been having a real struggle daydreaming. Whenever I try it feels lifeless and I can’t get stuck in it. I find it hard to daydream during the day because I’m constantly surrounding myself with stimuli like videos, games and podcasts. I don’t have class time to daydream since it is school holidays where I am. It’s been making me feel less and less happy. I’m going to try to just sit and listen to music tomorrow, and hopefully daydream because it’s been making me feel restless. But yeah, I saw that other people ask you questions and thought that this would be the best spot to ask for help for, since I’m having trouble figuring out if this is me or not.
The MDS-16 might be able to help you. This is a 16 item scale that measures for probable MD. Here's a link to a page where you can view the scale and read about how to score it (don't worry, it's easy). Just remember; this scale was meant for clinicians and can only be useful to give you an idea of where you might fall, it's not a self-diagnosis tool.

How to stop maladaptive daydreaming?
Mindfulness and Tracking. These are the two methods researchers have found to be particularly helpful to MDers.
Here is a study showing the initial treatment experiment: 2023-RCT-MD.pdf (dropbox.com)

The Official© Online Maladaptive Daydreaming Treatment Program (daydreaming-treatment.com)
Please note; - Signing up does not guarantee you a spot in the study. - Scroll all the way to the bottom to find the "sign up" button. - Program lasts 8 weeks and requires access to the internet.
This online program will focus on mindfulness and self-monitoring. A previous round of this program produced excellent results. If you have no interest in participating, are not chosen to participate or are simply curious, the write up of the initial experiment can be found HERE.

I'm sorry for the bother and if I trigger someone, however unfortunately my Madd intersects with addiction and if I need to relapse in Madd the only way to stop is to relapse and the reverse is true as well. If I need to delay a relapse I'll daydream.
Really my question is:
Is there any information about Madd, other addictions and how they crossover?
This is what we have so far:

Prediction of Psychological Distress and Job Performance of Nurses Based on Maladaptive Daydreaming and Social Loneliness during the Covid 19 Epidemic (ijnv.ir)
NEW MD PAPER PUBLISHED (paper in Persian, English abstract) From the abstract:
... the present study was conducted with the aim of predicting the psychological distress and nurses' job performance based on maladaptive daydreaming and social loneliness during the covid-19 epidemic... Conclusions: The findings showed that during the outbreak of covid-19, the tendency of maladaptive daydreaming in people and especially in nurses to lock themselves in the world of fantasy is intensified, which in turn contributes to alienation in social relationships and social isolation, which in turn contributes to the intensification of daydreaming. And as a result, it brings psychological distress and disruption in daily and job performance; therefore, in order to prevent and design suitable interventions in this field, it is important to pay attention to maladaptive daydreaming and social isolation.

I daydream in a kind of mixed perspective, both 1st person and 3rd person? I really don't know how exactly to describe it. Also I often find myself laughing or smiling or crying, whatever the emotions are, I feel them really really deeply. I was wondering if that's a shared experience.
Yes, these are typical experiences of MD. Followers, do you experience this as well?
