As a first time director, did an amazing job on directing the play! given how this was thrown in you last minute, with only two weeks to prepare and no supervision or guidance or help to assist you in the process, you pulled it off and did a truly exceptional job at that! You should be proud of yourself! I am proud of you!

I’m sorry you’ve been busy this summer. I can see you’re doing everything you can to try and make this work. And I appreciate that.

You are worthy and loved and always have been, regardless of what external sources say or don’t say.

I JUST HAD THE BEST THEORY FOR NEXT WEEK

What if the reason EJ was characterised in this horrible light is because everything he went through was filmed on camera without him knowing?!

It makes sense if Channing captured moments like:

• EJ talking to Miss Jenn about wanting Gina to shine

• EJ in the office breaking down

• EJ talking to Val and maybe verbalising (to himself!!) for the first time that he loves Gina??

• EJ on the phone trying to stand up to his dad (!!)

So when the documentary trailer premieres (or leaks maybe), everyone will realise how tough he’s had it (Ashlyn not reaching out to her cousin at all is insane to me?!) and Gina especially will have insight into why the summer turned out the way it did. Maybe her “wish” will come up again?!

PORTWELL IN HSMTMTS S3E06: COLOUR WAR

MY THOUGHTS ON TODAYS EPISODE:

Carlos carried the whole thing. Lets just get that out of the way. An icon. A legend. He was a masterpiece this episode.

Genuinely think Carlos and Kourtney are just the best characters this season. Go them. 

Gina, she has every right to be upset that EJ didn’t tell her. And I think most of her anger is stemming from: EJ “confiding” in Val over it as well as the uncertainty of him staying in Salt Lake or not. Do I think she was a bit over the top at points,, good lord yeah just a bit. Val needs to lock EJ and Gina in a room and just let them talk it out because with how busy EJ is, it’s going to be difficult for them to be able to do that :( 

Now EJ and Gina are 100000% both paralleling Troy and Gabriella/Shane and Mitchie it’s absolutely wild to me. First of all, the “different summers” camp rock 2 reference??? Just the main plot points to their characters 🧍‍♀️like wOW I dig it

Ricky just feels off this episode, and I genuinely think it’s just him hiding in all of his pain. And no I’m not talking about his feelings for Gina cuz I’m gonna be honest, the show acting like it’s deeper than what it actually feels like just feels??? Off??? Idk how to put my finger on it but I realllyyyy think his “feelings” for Gina might not genuinely stem from a romantic place. I really think the love triangle this season has a deeper meaning than the surface level one we’re used to. But we’ll see.

OKAY not the biggest fan of What Do You Know About Love. Did I like it more than I did from the preview? Yes. It was definitely much better in context but legit who tf is mixing the music this season cuz it fell FLAT to me. The song on the broadway soundtrack is SO MUCH FUN TO LISTEN TO AND TO SING. And it’s supposed to convey this playful teasing energy between Kristoff and Anna. IT IS A PIVOTAL SONG TO THEIR RELATIONSHIP. I know Val legit said half energy but with how ricky and Gina were “acting” during the performance idk they thought they ate that performance when they really didn’t im sorry 🧍‍♀️The acting wAS cute overall but I personally was not impressed im sorry guys 😭 I ALSO HATE WHEN THEY EDIT THE LYRICS LIKE JET STILL HAS CURLS???? THE LYRICS STILL??? WORKS???? Idk man I just wasn’t the biggest fan but that’s my own personal opinion lol. it was fine.

OH AND. IM GONNA BE HONEST, ASHLYN HAVING FEELINGS FOR VAL? TOTALLY FEELS OUT OF PLACE? Idk it just feels like there’s no build up to it???? I’m not against it by any means but the inclusion of it to Ashlyn’s arc feels a little off. I feel like it makes sense for her to have a crush on Maddox wHICH could end up being the whole point and is why Maddox is getting it wrong LOL. 

This episode was still fun overall but it just feels like a mid season episode that will be way more enjoyable once the whole season is out? I hope that makes sense.

you mfs shitting on ej for “not being supportive of gina”????? he got this massive project thrown on him at the last second (that’s gonna be aired on Disney+ may I add), is making sure that all of the campers are still having a great experience like he used to have, AND he made time in his busy ass schedule to find flowers (and that bouquet was actually adorable i want no slander for that) and come visit gina to congratulate her. while he may not have said much and been spaced out, he has a lot on his plate and he’s trying his damndest to balance both the musical, gina, and the other campers. don’t you dare say he’s putting one of those things above the others. babes is only 18 and us totally allowed to be stressed out. no ej slander here. ej caswell is the best boyfriend stfu <3

i don't care about the ships wars, but dO NOT COME AT MY BOY ERIC JAMES CASWELL.

an 18 year old boy being given an actual director's job that will be aired in 63 countries. he already has problems with anxiety, and you shove this whole ass responsibility on him?

and the fact that he knows how much it means to Gina. the first lead role she has ever had with one of her besties. he can't mess up in general, but SPECIFICALLY, HE CAN'T MESS IT UP FOR HIS LEADING LADY.

i’ve seen a few people, largely anti-portwells, saying that gina’s so-called willingness to take a break from her relationship with ej is representative of her lack of faith/confidence/security in the relationship.

but what a lot of these people seem to forget is firstly that this is gina’s first boyfriend, which means a lot of this is uncharted waters for her. she both doesn’t want to cause any difficulty for ej and also doesn’t really know how much a relationship is supposed to “affect” a person’s life. if anything, this is her caring so much about ej and wanting him to succeed so much that she’s even willing to put aside her own happiness - that their relationship brings - so he doesn’t have to worry about her as well as the cast and the mammoth task that is directing the show. he quickly abates that fear anyway by reassuring her that he’s not at all worried about them and that actually their relationship brings him comfort

i think a lot of them also miss out the crucial context of her comment i.e. the fact that it comes immediately after ej says “yeah, val’s the best”. the way gina brings up val, it’s as though she’s expecting him to say val is nothing to worry about. from ej’s pov, val’s not even a factor so of course he doesn’t say that because he feels no need, but we already see that gina is a bit anxious about his obviously close relationship with val. this is definitely gina panicking and letting her nerves about it get the better of her - which again obviously ends up irrelevant anyway, because ej immediately tells her he’s not worried about the relationship at all

so yeah gina is not just “willing to let go of the relationship that quickly” lol
