Let us suppose that the "average" horse would have equal proportions of all these parts. The degree to which each part in this poll deviates from the "average" size (20% of total) will determine how large or small that part of our horse will be (i.e a horse with only 10% in Legs will have legs half the size of the average horse).
I will draw a picture of the horse we make!

I'm just saying, if there's a curse that runs along your family line and you don't tell your kids about it, how the hell are they supposed to go on a quest to stop it?

Obsessed by this statue I saw today in Le Havre (France) from the Italian sculptor Fabio Viale. The design isn't painted on... The ink is injected inside the marble like a real tattoo. And if I remember correctly what the guide said, it took the artist three weeks to do just that.

How stunning is this

some of y'all need to learn how to accept hospitality. stop assuming people are only offering to look after you out of twisted obligation that they don't actually want to do. when you assume that, you are often denying someone the opportunity to genuinely show a friend or stranger love. even if you don't really care about what they're offering, it's respectful of their desire to be kind to accept it anyways.
i had a bunch of girls i've never met over for a women's group. every single one of them denied my offer to make them tea (despite already making myself a mug anyways), get them water, a scone, etc.
i can tell when people refuse to let me be a good host because they "don't want to be a bother". like no!! please be a bother!!! i want to serve you and make you comfortable in my home!
not to be like "we live in a society" but really do live in a modern culture than emphasizes individualism to the point where people will reflexively deny any help or kindness from others for fear of treading on their independence. newsflash: dependence on each other is what makes a community. next time someone offers you kindness, accept it instead of making excuses for why you don't need it. otherwise you've robbed both yourself of being loved and someone else from showing love.

Holy shit, they got Voyager 1 working again!
15 billion miles away and NASA was able to tweak code packages on one of the onboard computers and it worked and Voyager 1 is sending signals back to earth for the first time since November.
Incredible!

Okay but this coffee shop I hung out at (back when we could do that) had somewhere between SEVEN and NINE (I can't remember the exact number anymore) Jens as regular customers and staff. They were never Jennifer or Jenny or anything, they were ALL NAMED JEN. As someone who has a really hard time remembering names it made it easy on the one hand (I could default to calling someone Jen and I might be right), unique names are a lot easier to recall for me. I can associate the face with that name and it sticks better. One name that applies to several people gets confusing. I got teased growing up for having an unusual name but honestly I'm so glad I never had to have a qualifier. I was just Sharene, I wasn't Coffee Shop Jen or Jen F. or Purple Hair Jen or Jen, you know, she's dating Mike? Mike who plays the drums? No, that's Band Mike, this is Drums Mike. Yeah, Jen with the brown hair who went to my school, but not the one that became a chemist, the other one?
I was so glad when I started working with kids in the 00s to see names were getting more creative and that a lot of kids were keeping their traditional language names instead of having an additional "English name".
because I was genuinely curious, I looked up how many babies were born in 1972 in the US. About 3.2 million. Assume about half were AFAB, so 1.6 million. Of those, 63,602 were named Jennifer.
Almost 4% of afab babies were named Jennifer that year, three times as many as the next most common name.
but 71,000 of the amab babies were named Michael.
in the 70s there were:
1 Michael 707,458 Jennifer 581,753 2 Christopher 475,526 Amy 268,996 3 Jason 462,821 Melissa 253,274 4 David 445,842 Michelle 249,138 5 James 444,823 Kimberly 229,106
out of 17,107,561 male births and 16,462,535 female births according to the social security administration. If you wonder why names got weird for a while? THIS is why. GenX had like 20 names, total, for everyone.

Leonard Matlovich (6 July 1943 - 22 June 1988) was awarded the purple heart and bronze star for his service in the American Air Force during Vietnam, however was discharged when he came out as gay. He was a gay rights activist who fought against his discharge until finally accepting a settlement. He became a sort of celebrity, speaking at rallies and backing LGBT community court cases.
Sadly, he died from HIV complications in 1988.
He designed his own tombstone, which does not bear his name. Instead, it gives his date of birth, date of death, and the words:
"A Gay Vietnam Veteran
When I Was In the Military, They Gave Me A Metal For Killing Two Men and a Discharge For Loving One."
He is buried at the Congressional Cemetery in Washington DC.

🔹 Saying that it's okay to write or read about dark and taboo topics but only when they're portrayed in a certain way is still censorship.
🔹 Wanting to ban or forbid media that you believe portrays a negative topic in a positive light, by glorifying, romanticizing, or fetishizing it is still censorship.
🔹 There is no objective metric to decide if a story is portraying a negative topic the 'right' way.
🔹 Just because a piece of fiction doesn't explicitly condemn or portray an evil action in a bad light in the text doesn't mean the author thinks its good or is trying to persuade the audience that it is good.
🔹 Survivors of trauma will not always write fiction about their trauma in a way that seems 'right' or 'normal' to you.
🔹 Banning fiction because it portrays dark, taboo topics in a way you consider gross or disgusting is still censorship.

Bornella anguilla looks like a linoleum floor pattern from the 70s and I LOVE it
I get so confused whenever I see an AI-generated sea slug of a species that doesn't even exist, like is the world not beautiful enough for you? Do you care not for Babakina anadoni...?
