i can’t decide if max was experiencing comp het or not… like all the romantic feeling she had towards men was directed at jefferson, who was her idol, so does that make it more hero worship that she confuses for something more? before someone mentions warren, it’s super apparent that she doesn’t feel that way with him and is uncomfortable with his advances (e.g. “hope he doesn’t make a lame move on me” if you agree to go to the movies, how the nightmare version of him turns out). like warren in that sense is always juxtaposed against chloe - in the pool, in her room before they kiss, etc. and chloe shuts him down every chance she gets, or in jefferson’s case, teases max about it because she assumes jefferson wouldn’t reciprocate (but he does, the slimy fucker).

i feel like even if you do take the case of her going for the kiss with warren, it’s out of gratitude and obligation because that’s all she keeps saying about warren in her diary - that he’s a life saver, that she owes him, etc. and i feel like even in that scene warren understands that it’s somewhat of a rejection. because in the diner and in episode 4, he keeps reiterating the notion that max picks chloe over him every time (”i know you aren’t here just for me”).

she’s also uncomfortable with the other guys expressing interest in her - hayden in the end of the world party, justin’s text assuming she got what he meant and that’s why it was left unanswered. her observation that she likes skaters also feels like it’s got some holes in it when you realize that chloe was a skater growing up.

idk, max is someone who represses herself a lot. it wouldn’t surprise me if lis was kind of embodying that look back into your childhood and realizing that you were hella gay thing. especially since max literally has the power to go back
