NEWBORN MUST HAVES (FIRST 4 WEEKS)
I’m back again with a complete list of items we used in Quinns first month of life! Every parent is different, and every baby is different but these are the items we have used in her first four weeks. If something is straight forward I’ll just link the item, but if we use an item for a specific reason I’ll list why so you can see if that scenario seems right for you as well.
NIGHTIME
Arms up Swaddle : We switched to this one on night two at home because she could roll on her side and it scared the heck out of me! She was born with a large head (don’t worry she is back down to 52 percentile - haha) and the arms up swaddle keeps her head from rocking her to the side.
Halo Bassinet with this mattress cover (x2) and the SOFTEST sheets : She sleeps in her bassinet exclusively at night and I LOVE it. It swivels 360 degrees, has mesh sides incase she were to ever get pressed up against the sides she could still breathe, the side comes down to place her in, and the adjustable height allows you to have baby right next to you in bed.
Hatch Sound Machine : I know this seems like an expensive purchase but I love it so much. You can make multiple custom settings so all you have to do is tap the top. For example, I have three settings set up for nighttime feeding - sound + brighter light, sound + dimmer light + and sound with no light. You can also use it when they are older and make a setting for colorful lights to come on and off to tell them when it’s time to get up.
Owlet Sock : Lots of controversy around this item but we are big fans.
Zipper PJs : Double zip PJs or magnetic Pjs all of the way!
Travel baby monitor : I use this baby monitor when she naps in her bassinet during the day and will take it when we start traveling. No wifi needed!
Books : I highly recommend asking your baby shower host to do “books instead of cards” because we have a great library of books now and reading to her at night is our favorite time of day! I also got a library card and have stocked up on more books to read to her because that’s how much we love it.
Crib / mattress / sheets: she has technically taken one nap in her crib so I’m listing that, the mattress, waterproof cover, sheet, and monitor (I don’t love the monitor to be honest).
BATHTIME
Bathtub
Water Thermometer : This gives me peace of mind knowing the water is the right temp. We use it every time.
Shampoo : Your choice on what you use, but this is what we currently have.
Swaddle Blanket : We use a swaddle blanket in her bath and she loves it. She screamed before we started doing this. This is my favorite swaddle brand here but any swaddle blanket will do!
Rinse cup
Spout Cover
Kneeler and Elbow Rest
Toy Bin for bath toys that drains the water out.
Bathtoys
COMFORT/PLAY
Solly Wrap : These wraps take some learning to use, but I love them because it keeps baby warm and snuggled up against you like they were in the womb. Perfect especially when they are super new.
Ergo Carrier : We only started using this now because she is getting used to life outside of the womb and is more aware.
Boppy with Covers : We use the Boppy, the waterproof cover, and the regular cover for feeding and to prop her up for tummy time.
Bouncer : Hands down my most used item!! It’s incredibly compact, can be folded flat, and she loves it!
Swing : Not her or my favorite item (because it’s massive), but we occasionally get her to use it.
Lovevery playgym : (shop here or on Amazon) This gets used EVERY day - we love it so much I have this extra sensory strand to go with it! I know it’s pricey but it comes with mirrors, black and white cards, tons of sensory items and can be turned into a tent.
Oball Rattle
Safari Block from WeeGallery
Mombella Mushroom
Musical Star Toy
Crinkle Book for entertainment out and about
DIAPERING
Diaper rash cream : We tried several but are liking this one the best so far.
2 sizes of diapers : Find what diapers work best for you but hold off on opening your newborn ones until you know for sure your baby can fit in them. Quinn was 9lbs+ so she used newborn diapers for a veryyyy short amount of time. You can exchange any unused diapers at Target.
Diaper Cream Spatula : We keep the large one at her changing table in her nursery and the smaller one in the changing basket in our room. I’m about to buy another small on for my diaper bag.
Ava + Oliver Changing Mats : We love these vegan leather changing mats! So easy to wipe clean. We have three of them!
Wipes : So far Water Wipes and Sensitive Wipes are our favorites.
Ubbi Diaper Pail - We have no issues with smell and you don’t need special bags.
Wipe Dispenser from Ubbi
Plum and Sparrow Changing Basket : This is the one in her room.
Diaper Caddy : We keep this in our room for middle of the night feeds and change her on our bed. During the day we change her in her room at the changing table. It holds our diapers, diaper cream, diaper cream spatula, changing mat, and wipes.
TRAVEL
Carseat : At the time of writing this our carseat is the lightest on the market. Love it!
Everyday Stroller : I LOVE our Nuna stroller. It folds up with one hand.
Jogging Stroller : We use this jogging stroller with the Nuna carseat adaptor.
Car Camera
Car Seat Protector
Freshly Picked Diaper Bags : This is my everyday bag and I just got this one to use if I need something that looks more like a purse. Both are vegan leather!
Stroller Bag - it’s washable!
Travel Sound Machine - used this in the hospital, in her room, and I take it with us.
Travel Wipes Case that I keep in my diaper bag
MISC
Nail Trimmer : Using clippers is scary so I recommend this nail trimmer 100%!
Neeva Sanitizer : You definitely don’t need a sterilizer this big, but I do use it often and like it.
Newborn Milestone Discs : I use these for cute photos.
Burp cloths : I have several but these are my favorite so far.
Booties : I use these booties from Amazon and these booties from Goumi (code MAE for 15% off) way more than socks.
Hats : babies need to stay warm and I used these hats - here, here and here.
Thermometer : this one and this rectal one.
Fan : We used this fan when it was still warm outside. Mostly for me, haha, but I plan to attach it to her stroller when it gets hot again.
CLOTHING
I like to dress up Quinn! Click here for my Amazon clothing finds, Goumi Kids (code MAE for 15% off), and my LTK.

My Postpartum, Breastfeeding and C-section Must Haves
I’ve officially been a mom for 5 weeks - hooray! I have listed my “must haves” for breastfeeding and c-section recovery. By no means do I think everyone needs all of these items, but this is everything that I could think of that I used in the past 5 weeks! My c-section was unexpected so if you do have additional recovery items waiting for you at home, I suggest waiting to open them until after birth. I was able to return several unopened items to Target that I had purchased/been gifted that I thought I would use after giving birth vaginally.
BREASTFEEDING MUST HAVES:
For reference, I exclusively breastfeed and have not pumped since giving birth (yet). I did practice using my Motif Luna with battery pump that I got for free with my insurance through Aeroflow (with my Midwifes permission) at 38 weeks for about five minutes which I highly recommend doing if you’re allowed because the sucking sensation is bizarre and uncomfortable at first. I also started using my pump again for short periods of time (10-20 minutes) to try and induce labor around 39 weeks and again at 40 weeks. The sensation became more normal feeling by 40 weeks and made me feel more comfortable putting her to the breast for the first time after birth. Always consult with your own OB/Midwife before doing these things.
Nursing Pads (washable and disposable) : I use these for daytime because they are soft, I use these for overnight (not as soft but hold a lot more), and I have these disposable ones as backup but I prefer to use washable.
Nipple Butter : This Earth Mama (at Target or Amazon) was my everything until I got a nipple shield. I used this in the hospital and at home. It is lanolin-free and states you don’t have to wash it off before nursing.
Button Down Nightshirt : I personally did not like ANYTHING over my c-section incision for several weeks so I wore button down nightshirts (here, here, and here) in a size large or a robe when visitors came to see the baby.
Breast Care : During the first few weeks my nipples and boobs hurt (and this was even after seeing MULTIPLE lactation consultants who said we had a fantastic latch) so I recommend having these things on hand to help as much as possible. Give your boobs some TLC because they are working hard and are experiencing a constant sensation that they have never felt before. I used Medela breast soothing pads, Frida Mom Lactation Massager, a fillable ice pack (a fillable one doesn’t melt all over you and you don’t have to wait for it to freeze), and 3 days after Quinn was born my lactation consultant recommended these nipple shields and they saved my entire breastfeeding experience (without these I may have quit or just been absolutely miserable).
Haakaa : The Haakaa is great for using on the side you’re not nursing on. You will be shocked by how much leakage you can save and put in the freezer that would otherwise be totally wasted.
Breastmilk Storage Bags : These storage bags come with an organizer so you can keep them tidy in your freezer.
Burp Cloths : I actually don’t use these to burp her because she doesn’t spit up (at least she doesn’t right now) but I reach for these muslin burp clothes over all of my others every single day by my bed and on the couch to clean the milk off the nipples shield, clean her face, and to clean up any dripping or leaking from my boobs.
Nursing Tanks to wear under clothes to easily feed using the “two shirt method.” I have 3 different brands and I like them all - Leaxy tank comes with my favorite breast pads and is a small company that gives back to Black Mothers Breastfeeding Association, I also have this pack from Amazon, and this cami from Target.
Nursing Bras : I LOVE these for sleeping, this one is my favorite wireless, soft, and most normal looking/pretty bra, and this pack is just your boring but comfortable nursing bras that serve their purpose but aren’t the cutest.
Nursing Pillow : I have the Boppy with a waterproof cover and these regular covers that fit over it for easy washing. I also have the MyBreastFriend which is more comfortable but I only just started using it after my c-section incision started feeling better and I only use it during the day because the Boppy is easier to slip on and use in the middle of the night.
C-section POSTPARTUM MUST HAVES:
Adult diapers : I used both the Walgreens ones and some from Target - loved them both! I used these when I got home and skipped the giant pads and mesh undies I wore in the hospital. I did roll them down because I didn’t like anything on my c-section incision for a few weeks.
Pads : When the blood gets lighter I switched to Always Thin Pads
Belly Bandit : A Belly Bandit was recommended to me from my doctor as I was laying on the table getting a c-section - haha! I ordered this one and they so kindly gave me a 10% off code for you guys - MAELUTZZ10
Flushable wipes or a peri bottle - you want to feel as fresh as possible with all of that blood. I used the hospital provided peri bottle in the hospital and switched to flushable wipes at home.
I hope this list helps some of you! Remember we all experience birth differently, experience breastfeeding differently, and heal differently. These items are what I used, but trust me I have even more than this that I didn’t end up using. However, when you’re in pain you’ll be happy to have a selection to choose from when it’s 3am and you just need SOMETHING to make you feel better. My biggest tip is buy what you think you might use and don’t open it until you need it. This way you can return whatever you don’t use. Good luck!!

HEALTHIER NO-BAKE LEMON “CAKE POPS”
Summer is finally here - hooray! Cheers to yummy treats, BBQ’S, and vacations. Today I’m going to show you my version of a healthier “cake pop.” Sometimes we need to trick our minds (or our kiddos) into sneaking in a better choice so this one is for you.
Today I’m bringing you lemon cake pops. They are refreshing and a perfect summer time treat. The only reason these aren’t vegan is because I can’t find vegan white chocolate, but if you can, that’s an easy swap!
The star of the show, and sponsor for today, is PB2 Almond Protein Powder which is packed with 20g of protein per serving! It has a yummy vanilla flavor and is super versatile in various recipes.
I’ve had to absolute honor of working with PB2 since 2017! See other recipes I’ve made with them here.
Serving: 12 cake pops INGREDIENTS FOR LEMON “CAKE POPS” :
1 cup PB2 Almond Butter Protein
1/2 cup blended oats
10 pitted Medjool dates (removing the pit is super easy)
2 tbsp Agave or maple syrup
Juice from half a lemon (1 tbsp)
Zest from one lemon
1 tbsp chia seeds
OPTIONAL TOPPINGS:
Melted white chocolate for drizzle
Shredded coconut
Sprinkles
TOOLS:
Cake pop sticks (buy here) or at your local craft store
Food processor or blender
INSTRUCTIONS:
In a blender or food processor blend the oats first until it’s a powder texture. If your dates aren’t pitted, just squeeze the pit out - it’s super easy. Add the rest of the main ingredients until well combined. Taste and see if you want to add anything! This isn’t an exact science so if you like more lemon or want it sweeter - go for it!
Time to get sticky! Roll the dough into balls 12 balls and place on a parchment paper lined plate. Chill for 10-20 minutes.
While the balls are chilling, poke holes into a cardboard box for your cake pops to be upright. If you don’t have a box just make them upside down by leaving them on parchment paper.
After the balls are chilled, melt your chocolate. To melt your chocolate, microwave pieces at 50% power for 1 minute. Stir and microwave another 30 seconds. Repeat until melted.
Dip a cakepop/lollipop stick into the chocolate before inserting the sticks into each ball. This helps it adhere better!
Start sticking your “cake pops” into the holes on your cardboard box.
Time to decorate! Drizzle with white chocolate and top with sprinkles, shredded coconut, chia seeds, etc!
Chill for 10+ minutes.
Serve immediately or store in an air tight container in the fridge. If you guys make this, please tag me on IG because that makes my day! Also, if you have any questions or just want to say hey, please use the comments section and I will always get back to you. Lastly, make sure you follow me on Instagram (@MaeLutzz) as I post on there almost every day. Bye and see you next time!

These easy, three-ingredient, Peanut Butter Yogurt bites are the perfect healthy snack - make them for yourself or for the kiddos! Vegan Jalapeño Popper Tray with Grape Tomatoes and Pineapple
Can you believe it’s July already, because I can’t! I am, however, loving this hot weather and you know what goes great with hot weather? Delicious food! If you find yourself getting together with close family and friends anytime soon I highly recommend this Jalapeno Popper Tray! Far too often the vegan and dairy free people at the party are left out when there is absolutely no need! These taste just as delicious as the original, but can be enjoyed by everyone, well, if they are vegan or dairy-free that is!
Vegan Jalapeño Popper Tray with Grape Tomatoes and Pineapple
Ingredients:
8 Jalapeños
8 oz vegan cream cheese
Garlic salt to taste
Onion powder to taste
1/4 cup Bread crumbs
1 tbsp Vegan butter
10 oz Grape tomatoes
1 Pineapple, cut into bite sized pieces
1 bunch of Cilantro
1 Lime
Directions:
Preheat oven 400 degrees F and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
Cut the jalapeños lengthwise and remove seeds and membranes with a spoon. I recommend wearing gloves.
Mix cream cheese with garlic salt and onion powder until you like the taste.
Fill jalapeños with cream cheese mixture, top with bread crumbs, and lightly drizzle with vegan butter.
Cut pineapple into bite sized pieces, chop cilantro, and cut the lime into slices. Put to the side.
Place the filled jalapeños, pineapple, and grape tomatoes on a lined baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes.
Remove from oven and sprinkle with chopped cilantro. Garnish with slices of lime.

Low Cost Pet Vaccines and Spay/Neutering in Atlanta
Hi guys! If you follow me on Instagram you know that I found a dog (again) on the side of a busy highway a few weeks ago. After I had no luck finding his owner I knew that he needed to be neutered and vaccinated in order to be around my dogs while I fostered him. Spoiler alert, I’m a foster fail, we are keeping him, and I named him Franklin - haha! Anyways, as you can imagine a new dog was quite the unexpected cost and I set out to give him everything he needed as inexpensively as I could.
As you know, owning a pet is a HUGE responsibility and pretty dang expensive so I’m going to list the places that offer low cost vaccinations and spay/neutering in the Atlanta area. I’ve also listed a few moderately priced places because the super low cost places are booked a month+ out because of Covid-19.
P.S. My public service announcement for today is to remind you to always give your pet heartworm preventative medication! After finding Loki in a parking lot a few years ago, we found out the day of his neutering that he was heartworm positive. Heartworm disease is spread through the bite of a mosquito and can result in lung disease, heart failure, organ damage, and death if untreated. Heartworm disease treatment is VERY expensive, the animals can’t play/get their heart rate up for months, and the injections are painful. Be a good pet owner and GIVE YOUR ANIMALS HEART WORM PREVENTATIVE MEDICATION, PLEASE! Ok, back to my post…
Here is a list of low cost and moderately priced places that offer vaccinations, spay/neutering, and additional vet services in the Metro Atlanta area:
I am not directly affiliated with these programs, just listing them to help out. Please contact the respective programs directly for more information.
Planned Pethood in Duluth, GA offers low cost vet care including a vaccine clinic (click for pricing) and spay/neutering clinic (click for pricing). This is where I took Loki to be neutered and vaccinated. (Spay/Neuter $70-$110 dogs and $35-$60 for cats, price includes pain meds/cone is $10) (Vaccines/testing $10-$25/each) (Microchipping $25). Check their website for a complete list of pricing and services.
My Kids Have Paws in Dalton, GA offers low cost vet care including a vet & vaccine clinic (click for pricing) and spay/neutering clinic (click for pricing). Spay/neutering cost includes pain meds, nail trim, and cone which is amazing! They also have unbelievably low cost vaccines, microchipping, and preventative tests. They also offer an array of surgical services including dental cleaning, amputation, mass removal, and more. (Spay/Neuter $70-$110 and $35-$55 for cats, price includes pain meds, cone, & nail trim) (Vaccines/testing $10-$25/each) (Microchipping $10). Check their website for a complete list of pricing and services.
Atlanta Humane Society Clinic in Atlanta, GA offers low cost vet care including a vet & vaccine clinic (click for pricing) and a spay/neutering clinic (click for pricing). Spay/neutering cost includes free microchip, pain meds, and cone which is amazing! Additional vet services include annual physicals, vaccines, testing, prescriptions, nail trims, microchip, dental services, heart worm care, surgery, and more. This is where I took Franklin for his vaccines, heart worm test, fecal test, and purchased his heart work medication. (Spay/Neuter $100 for dogs and $60 for cats, price includes free microchip, pain meds, and cone) (Vaccines $20/each) (Microchipping $20). Check their website for a complete list of pricing and services.
Lifeline Animal in Atlanta, GA offers low cost vet care including a vet clinic (click for pricing), spay/neutering clinic (click for pricing), and low cost vaccine wellness days (click for pricing). If getting spay/neutering you can add vaccines, microchip, tests, and treatments the same day. If you only need vaccines, you must go to one of their wellness days. (Spay/Neuter $70-$95 for dogs and $25-$60 for cats; pain meds are $8-$15, unsure if cone is included) (Vaccines $10/each during spay/neutering and $40+ package pricing on wellness days) (Microchipping $25). Check their website for a complete list of pricing and services.
H.E.L.P. Spay/Neuter Clinic in Newnan, GA offers a low cost spay/neutering clinic (click for pricing) with the option to add low cost vaccines, microchipping, nail trim, heartworm testing, and deworming at the time of surgery. (Spay/Neuter $80-$125 for dogs and $45-$60 for cats; unsure if price includes meds/cone) (Vaccines/test $13-$20/each during spay/neutering) (Microchipping $25). Check their website for a complete list of pricing and services.
The Animal Project in Ball Ground, GA offers a low cost spay/neuter clinic (click for pricing) with the option to add additional services the day of surgery like microchipping, vaccines, dewormer, flea preventative, and heartworm testing. (Spay/Neuter $80-$105 for dogs and $55-$65 for cats, price includes rabies vaccine, nail trim & pain meds. Cone is $10.) (Vaccines/test $10-$20/each during spay/neutering) (Microchipping $25). Check their website for a complete list of pricing and services.
Paradox Spay/Neuter in Loganville, GA offers a low cost spay/neuter clinic (click for pricing) with the option to add additional services the day of surgery OR by separate appointment. (Spay/Neuter $60-$80 for dogs and $35-$55 for cats, price includes pain meds. Cone is $12-$16) (Vaccines $17/each) (Microchipping $25). Check their website for a complete list of pricing and services.
Value Vet in Lawrenceville, GA and Tucker, GA offers moderately priced vaccines (click for pricing) and low+ cost spay/neutering (pricing not on website). Their website doesn’t list their spay/neutering pricing, but in June 2020 I was quoted $115 for a 50+lbs dog and the price includes pain meds. Come is $15. Check their website for services and call for pricing.
Pet Vet in Cumming, GA offers low/moderately priced spay/neutering (click for pricing), and vaccine packages (click for pricing). They aren’t as inexpensive as the first few places I listed, but worth checking out. Some of their services are a good price (like their annual vaccine package) and some are a little high, like microchipping for $50 is a lot in my opinion), but their website is completely transparent for pricing so it’s worth checking out if you can’t get a timely appt elsewhere. (Spay/Neuter $80-$100 for dogs and $50-$60 for cats, unsure if cost includes pain meds/cone.) (Vaccines/testing packages $65 for puppy/kitten, $125 for adult dog, and $100 for adult cat) (Microchipping $50). Check their website for a complete list of pricing and services.
Thrive Affordable Pet Care has multiple locations and offers low/moderately priced vaccine packages (click for pricing). Their spay/neutering is VERY expensive so I recommend going elsewhere for that. (Spay/Neuter is not low cost, but I wanted to put it for reference: $275-$335 for dogs and $220-$230 for cats) (Vaccines/test packages $59-$99, this works out to be about. $16-$20 each) (Microchipping $35). Check their website for a complete list of services and call for pricing.
Wellpet Humane in Doraville, GA offers moderately+ priced vet services, spay/neutering, vaccines, prescriptions, dental care, surgery, and more. They aren’t as inexpensive as some of the others, but you can get in quickly and it’s still reasonably priced especially if you do a package instead of single services. They don’t list their pricing on their website, but this is where I took Loki for heartworm treatment when we first found him. Side note, check with the Atlanta Humane Society clinic because I just found out that they do heartworm treatment as well and I would assume they are less expensive than Wellpet, but call to confirm. Sometimes the wait for them to answer the phone is long, but they are always happy to answer any questions you have and are fully transparent about their pricing. (In June 2020, I was quoted $184 for neutering a 50+lbs dog and that includes the office exam, cone and medicine. They will waive the office exam if you get vaccines done through them prior. I was also quoted $209 for exam, heartworm test, fecal test, rabies, distemper, bordetella, lepto, and influenza. Their packages are better value for money than single services. Check their website for a complete list of services and call for pricing.
Shepherd Animal Hospital in Duluth, GA offers moderately priced vet services. They waived my $39 exam fee because Planned Pethood recommended me which was nice. They do not list their pricing on their website, but are great if you call and ask. (This is what I was quoted for Franklin in June 2020: Vaccines are $19/each for some, but others are $21 and $32. Fecal testing is $36 and heartworm testing is $39. Neutering for a 50+lbs dog is $124, $25 for medicine, and $15 for cone). Note: the day I came in for surgery they said I had to have an influenza vaccine which had I known I would got it when I was at the ATL humane clinic for $20 and Shepherd wanted to charge me $32 for the same vaccine. They did waive that requirement after I mentioned that no one told me this information prior. Check their website for a complete list of services and call for pricing.
The following places may be closed currently due to COVID-19:
6. VIP Pet Care is a moderately+ priced clinic offering an array of services. Their individual vaccinations are pretty expensive honestly, but they are low cost for things like microchipping and vaccine packages. See their pricing here. Services include vaccinations, testing, bloodwork, microchip, nail trim, deworming, tapeworm treatment, anal glad expression, ear care, skin care, eye care, urinary care, GI care, and physical exams.
7. Paw Atlanta in Decatur, GA offers low cost vaccination packages every other Sunday (click for pricing). Their individual vaccine ($25-$35/each) and microchip ($30) pricing is pretty expensive, but the packages are low cost.
If you have any other suggestions or know of any updates that I should make to keep the post up to date, please leave it in the comments below. The more resources people have, the better! Let’s help other pet parents out!

Vegan Oreo Fruit Tarts
This easy vegan fruit tart recipe is perfect for summer. As you guys know, my husband is vegan but I’m not so everything I make has to be tasty for the both of us. This is perfect for anyone who can’t have dairy, but craves a sweet treat. You can find vegan butter and vegan cream cheese at most grocery stores and it’s amazing. I made 4 small tarts instead of one big one because let’s be honest, it’s just the two of us and we can’t eat a whole tart by ourselves. Feel free to double the recipe for a larger amount. I hope you guys enjoy!
Vegan Oreo Fruit Tarts
Makes 4 small tarts
INGREDIENTS:
Cookie Crust: - 14 Oreos - 2 Tbsp + 2tsp of vegan butter, melted
Vanilla Filling: - 8oz vegan cream cheese - 1 can full-fat coconut milk (use the solid part only) - 1/3c powdered sugar - 1tsp vanilla extract - Berries and fruit of your choice for topping
To make crust: Combine Oreos and butter in food processor until well combined. Press mixture into tart trays and place in fridge while you make the filling.
To make the filling: Combine vegan cream cheese, the solids from the coconut milk can, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract in food processor. Cover and cool in fridge for at least an hour.
Finish it off: When both the crust and filling are chilled, add filling to the mini tart pans, and top with the fruit of your choice. Enjoy!

New House Interior Design Plan
Hi guys! I thought it would be fun to show you what is currently in my head and on my mood boards for each room of the new house. If you want to see ALL of my Pinterest boards, click here.
LIVING ROOM
The living room, kitchen, and dining room are all open concept and we are keeping the design in those three areas very modern. To the left of the fireplace area is a large 18’x18’ window so this area will get a lot of light.
KITCHEN
I've already shared our full kitchen design on the blog, but here it is again.
DINING ROOM
I would love for the dining room to have a raw edge table, cool band posters nicely framed on the wall to show our personality, and a neon light in the space. I’m still undecided about a rug, light fixture, and chairs.
SUNROOM
The sunroom is one of my favorite rooms of the new build! I’ve had it planned since the beginning and I can’t wait to fill it with plants! The window are very similar to the photo below and the tile on the bottom right is what I’ve picked out!
MY OFFICE
I love pink and green together and I think this is the direction I’ll go in for my office. I prefer the pink shade in the middle photo and love the wall trim for an added sophisticated look.
MASTER BEDROOM
The rest of the house is so modern and/or bold that I thought making the master bedroom more calm and earthy would make for a relaxing space. I love the bali vibes, rattan furniture, pampas grass, neutral tones, and natural textures.
MASTER BATHROOM
The master bathroom is still undecided except I know I want the black grid shower, free standing bathtub, marble-look tile, and mirrors with lights around them. Everything else is still being decided on.
HALF BATHROOM
Who knew I could be so excited about a half bathroom? I love the idea of going REALLY bold in a small space because it’s low risk. I imagine a really bold wall paper, a funky mirror, and fun TP/hand towel holders.
Want to see even more? Check out my Pinterest where I have a board for each room of the house!

Our Modern Kitchen Design (Leicht)
Hi guys! Today I’m showing you our kitchen cabinet design - woohoo! We are working with Trey at German Kitchen Center here in Atlanta and our kitchen cabinets and handles are all from Leicht. I LOVE how sleek and modern the frameless cabinets are, the three tone design, and the diagonal cut on the waterfall island. We went with gold hardware on most of the cabinets and the rest are the handless design. The hood will be custom made by a metal fabricator since I can’t find a hood with the exact dimensions that we need for the stainless steel restaurant style hood that we want.
A few things will be different than the photos like the HUGE 36” sink, black Kohler faucet, and added gold Delta pot filler. We also think we might use either subway tile on the backsplash or hexagon tile if the cost of a matching stone backsplash is out of the budget. Lastly there will be lights installed on either side of the hood similar to what you see over the counter next to the fridge.
Our appliances are stainless steel and mostly from Samsung minus the dishwasher from Bosch that will have a custom panel over it. We almost went with all Bosch appliances but we currently have a Samsung refrigerator and I LOVE it. I know that sounds silly, but I need to have an external water filler and the flex drawer on the outside and Bosch doesn’t make that design. Because you get such a great deal when you bundle large appliances together we decided that Samsung was the way to go for everything minus the Bosch dishwasher since we need something that allows for a custom panel.
The door that you see mocked up leads into our pantry where we will put the microwave, food, another prep counter, more cabinets, etc. We don’t even have a pantry at our current house so this will be a whole new world for us!
Now we get to start looking for countertops, backsplash, barstools and lights to go over the island - yay!

What's in my gym bag
I think we can all agree that 2020 has been a little crazy to say the least. We have all shifted life to accommodate our individual circumstances which means everyones day to day looks a little different. Welcome to my new normal! I went from teaching spin and having an unlimited yoga membership to being at home with my dogs where my fitness routine looks a lot different.
Thank you so much to shortyLOVE for sponsoring this post! These bags were created by the boss babe who was previously the design director for Marc Jacobs and she named her brand after her dog (a woman who speaks my language!). In the spirit of normalcy let’s talk about what’s in my gym bag! First off, my gorgeous gym bag is from shortyLOVE and it’s the Boxer in black. It holds ALL of my gym essentials and I store all of my go-to’s in it even while at home. The bag converts from a backpack to a shoulder bag (see below) so you can wear it how you want! I’m going to walk you through how I use it when life is a little more normal so you know how I use it to it’s maximum awesome capacity. Use code MAE10 to receive $10 off your first order.
Let’s start at the bottom where you’ll find a large zipper compartment for my shoes. This compartment is spacious and depending on how big your shoes are, you could probably fit more than just shoes - I recommend throwing your dirty clothes in here as well (once we are back to the gym of course)!
The side zipper holds my laptop, the two side pockets hold water bottles, and the middle front zipper is perfect for easy access to my phone. Moving on to the spacious interior! The main compartment is massive and holds my clean clothes, hairbrush, shower spray, and whatever else I’m carrying with me. The inside is also complete with an interior zipper pocket, interior red pockets (another place for phone/wallet), and a GREAT pop out bag where I keep things like headphones, deodorant, gum, extra mic covers, snacks, headache medicine, and iPhone dongle. I love this because in other bags, my essential smaller bag always gets buried in the bottom so I LOVE that this pops in the top.
If you’re into this shortyLOVE Boxer, I also recommend checking out the other bags they make:
The Wonder comes in camo (pictured), black and navy. For me, this bag is perfect for yoga when I don’t have extra shoes, but I still need enough space to carry my towel, waterbottle, and essentials.
The Amuse is a crossbody or top handle bag and also comes in camo, black, and navy. This is the perfect purse size which means it gets used for EVERYTHING.
Lastly is the Shorthand which is my choice for walking the dogs. It’s perfect when I want to be handsfree when all I need is my phone and some treats!
What are your must have gym essentials? Let me know below!
Check out the full shortyLOVE collection here! Use code MAE10 to receive $10 off your first order.

How to Incorporate Gratitude in to Your Daily Life
“Happiness doesn't come as a result of getting something we don't have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.” ― Frederick Koenig.
Let’s talk about practicing gratitude. Maybe you’re familiar with it or maybe this is the first time you’ve really read about it.  In a nutshell, practicing gratitude requires you to express deep appreciation and acknowledge the positive things around you. Although something you should still do, this is more than saying thank you to someone for doing something nice. This is taking a few moments a day to really recognize the great things, big or small, in your life. Studies have shown that people who consistently express gratitude are happier, less depressed, more optimistic, sleep better, and have stronger relationships.
Intrigued? It gets even better because multiple scientific studies have proven these benefits. In 2017 Berkely University completed a study with 300 people who were currently seeking mental health counseling for depression or anxiety. Group one wrote a letter of gratitude to another person each week for three weeks (but they didn’t have to send it), group two wrote emotionally about negative experiences, and group three did not do a writing activity. The group who wrote gratitude letters reported significantly better mental health four weeks after the exercise and even better results twelve weeks later than those who didn’t. What is even more fascinating is the fMRI scan conducted which revealed that the gratitude letter group demonstrated greater activation in the medial prefrontal cortex when experiencing gratitude than the other groups three months later!
So, how can we practice gratitude? There are various avenues you can take that range from simple and short to creative and tangible. I’ve listed a few below:
Let’s start with the one we already know, gratitude letters to specific people. We read above that these can make a massive impact by writing one a week and the choice is yours whether you send it or not.
Keep a gratitude journal that you write in every day. I always suggest at least three new things a day, but even one entry is better than nothing. These entries can be as simple as a bullet point list or you can let the pen fly!
Create a gratitude jar. This one is great for kids since they can decorate the jar however they want, but I’m all for adults doing it too! Each day write down on slips of paper what you’re grateful for and watch the jar fill up. If you’re ever feeling down you can grab a few out and remind yourself of all the great things, people, and experiences in your life.
Gratitude app. If pen and paper aren’t your thing, there are some great apps out there. Seriously, just type in “gratitude” in the search bar of your app store and you’ll find plenty to choose from. A few features I like about using an app is the ability to add photos to my bullet lists, push notifications reminding to put in an entry, and the ability to add a passcode to keep it personal.
Do you think you’ll add a gratitude practice to your life? If not, what’s stopping you? I truly believe (and science agrees) that it will only bring greatness to your life. Just as you take care of your body, you also need to take care of your mind.
I’ve also put an Instagram story template below. Please feel free to use it to help spread the habit of gratitude to others. <3

PLANT-BASED BREAKFAST, LUNCH, AND DINNER
Hi guys! Today I’m giving you three super easy plant-based recipes. For those of you who don’t know, my husband is vegan and has been for about five or so years, and I’ve been pescatarian for almost a year. We are no strangers to plant-based food, but I totally understand that it can be really intimidating when you’re first starting out. I’ll be honest, some plant-based options are YUCK, but that’s the case with ANY food, right? I mean even the meat-eaters out there can agree that you’ve had an amazing burger and you’ve also had a really terrible one. The good news is, plant-based brands have come a LONG way and some options out there are IDENTICAL to the “real” thing - it’s crazy!
I’m here to tell you about 3 recipes that you’ll love. Full disclosure, this blog post is NOT sponsored, but I did work with Kroger on some Instagram content. So if you’re in the south you can find all of these ingredients there. I genuinely just want these recipes to be easily available to you guys whether you’re dipping your toes into the plant-based world or just doing meatless Fridays because of lent.
PLANT-BASED BERRY SMOOTHIE:
Serving Size: 1 Smoothie Ingredients:
1 banana
1 cup mixed frozen berries
3/4 cup oat milk
Hand full of spinach
1/2 tbsp cinnamon
2 tbsp PB2
Blend until smooth and serve with a reusable straw. :)
PLANT-BASED DELI SANDWICH
Serving Size: 1 Sandwich Ingredients:
Whole wheat bread
Simple Truth Plant Based Ham Deli Slices
Field Roast Chao “cheese” slices
Hand full of spinach
Half an avocado
Cucumber slices
Mustard of your choice
Put it together and enjoy! This one is great for the kids lunches or in our case, we always take sandwiches when we go on the boat in the summer time. The deli “meat” and the “cheese” slices are A+ and if you don’t live in the south, I highly recommend anything you see from the brand “Field Roast” because it’s available all over the country.
Plant-Based Alfredo Pasta with Broccoli and Savory Smoky Crunchies
Serving Size: 2
Ingredients:
8 oz of pasta (we used rigatoni)
1 head of Broccoli
1 tbsp or less of Vegetable Oil or Olive Oil
1 cup Coconut
2 tsp Liquid Aminos (Tamari or soy sauce would work as well)
1/2 tsp Liquid Smoke
4 tsp Maple Syrup
Salt and Pepper to taste
Directions:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Have large non-stick skillet on stand by.
Cut head of broccoli into bite size pieces. Toss in olive oil (or vegetable oil), salt, and pepper. Place on baking tray and bake for 8-10min or until lightly browned.
While broccoli is cooking, add pasta to the boiling water and cook according to the directions on package. Most likely it will be around 8-10 minutes until al dente. When pasta is finished cooking, reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water and put to the side, drain the remaining pasta water, return pasta back to the large pot and keep off heat.
To make the savory crispy bits, place a large non-stick skillet over low heat. Add coconut flakes, Liquid Aminos, liquid smoke, maple syrup, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Toss consistently until the coconut is evenly coated and the coconut is cooked until slightly browned. This should take 5-7 minutes. Transfer to a plate or bowl when done.
Add the Alfredo sauce and 1/2 cup of pasta water to the cooked pasta. Reduce over low-medium heat.
Divide the saucy pasta into two dishes. Top with broccoli and crunchies. Salt and pepper if needed. Enjoy!
If you guys have any plant-based brands that you love, please drop them in the comments below. I also love the No Evil Pulled Pork, JUST egg, Miyoko’s Mozzarella, Earth Balance butter, Nasoya Kimcbhi, Field Roast Apple Sage Sausages, FIeld Road Choa slices (used in recipe above), and Treeline French-style nut cheese (SO GOOD with crackers) to name a few!
