Love the canon of Max/Lucy.. they are so sweet i was lowkey rooting for them since they first smiled at each other. The parallels of him growing up in the wasteland- being misled by the brotherhood- while she’s growing up in the safe closed off world of the vault- being misled by her father. Them both believing in goodness and doing what’s right but having to make sacrifices to stay alive. The “come live with me in my vault” “I’ll wait for you” I’m going crazy

But Cooper/Lucy…. I confess I was also lowkey rooting for them but I didn’t think the show would go there/knew people would be mad at that ship/don’t know where his wife is/ but the parallels of them indirectly knowing about each other. cooper being there back then advertising for the vaults only to survive that long to meet the daughter of one of the men behind it. Lucy most likely having watched his movies and possibly being a fan of The “Cooper Howard.” Both now having the experience of pre-war/the vault equivalent and wasteland life. Her reminding him of kindness for the sake of just being kind and him showing her you have to be ruthless up here or you’ll get killed. “Enemies to lovers,” “beauty and the beast.” I am also going crazy

Hot take for what seems like a fandom that is 99% 'the ghoul is the best character' (and I agree he's cool, he's specifically made to be tortured and mysterious and cool) but I think Max is the most complex of the three mains.

He lost everything and put his faith into an extremely broken violent hierarchy based military group. He can't stand up for himself, he can't hack it the way others can, always coming up short when he just wants to belong. He wants that power to inflict revenge on the ones who took his life away.

I think he's often conflicted and confused by his own emotions, especially having grown up in the brotherhood. His naivety, inexperience, inability to depend on anything around him is such a pivotal part of why he's interesting. He often falls victim to his base desires. It's funny in moments like vault 4 but in the end, even after seeing the truth about a lot of things, I think being respected, the favorite of the leader, all that power will still be an incredible lure even if he believes there is some sort of better life with Lucy because of said hindered development. His growth is going to be painful but necessary and I can't wait to see it/wanna hug him so bad.

As much as I enjoy VaultGhoul as a fun little ship, I’m more willing to bet that Cooper Howard will canonically be placed - kicking and screaming - into a parental role over Lucy.

He’s already got the whole “let me show you how to REALLY survive” shtick going, and now with Lucy’s bio dad being revealed as a massive corporate vault-tec turd, the position has been left wide open.

He will hate it. He will hate it sooooo much when he realizes he actually gives a shit about this no-survival-instincts/peace-on-earth-loving-vault girl and he is going to parent the SHIT out of her because Cooper T Howard does NOT do shit half-assed.
