I love disney films, don’t get me wrong but hate them as a corporation and it’s so fucking funny to me seeing the response to encanto and how disney’s weirdness about luisa has affected them
because isabela is the stereotypical pretty ‘perfect’ character, they expected her to be very popular with little girls. but she wasn’t as popular with them or kids in general even nearly to the extent they thought she would be: the isabela merch isn’t selling much and the demand for luisa merch is extremely high because kids regardless of gender seem to adore her
bc of misogyny and gender stereotypes, they didn’t expect kids to like the strong muscly lady but boy were they wrong. and I’m so glad the kids showed the mouse right up on their bullshit lmfao

(it's a ruana, not a poncho)
*Loud thud*
Alma: What was that?
Bruno: My poncho fell.
Alma: It sounded a lot heavier than a poncho though.
Bruno: Yeah, cause I was wearing it.

Let's talk about Encanto and really sad and bored white people.
Before you all start sending me anon hate asks calling me racist and that shit, please read the whole thing.
First of all, I'm Colombian. Second of all, I can not believe I'm posting about Encanto again, but my tumblr feed is FULL of Encanto posts because everybody loves it. And I'm okay with that, really. As a Colombian, I'm really happy to see that people enjoy a movie about my culture this much. But-
I've seen some posts and some anon asks from white people complaining about how we "dirty Colombians" ruined Encanto for them. Like? Hello, are you aware you're talking about a movie about "dirty Colombians"? If you are this much of a racist jerk then why did you even watch a movie about latinos in the first place? You say this things about us and then claim that you actually like the movie and the characters? And you have the nerve to say that we are the racist ones because we want our culture to be respected?
This is not about all white people, of course. If you are white and you genuinely like the movie, please don't take this personally. I'm talking specifically about this kind of people:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And these are just a few of them.
Honestly, I can not believe there are so many gringos with that amount of free time. The main reason I'm writing this in English is because I want all those racists to read this: all of you need a fucking hobby. Are your lives really that boring? Are your lives really that sad? The most interesting thing you all have to do with your day is posting shit and sending disgusting anon hate to random Colombians in tumblr? Like??????? What the actual hell. You have no friends, no hobbies? What's going on at home? Seriously, you all need therapy. Get a coffee and take a bath, calm down.
And none of you dare to call me homophobic cause I'm very queer, thank you very much.
Please, make all the headcanons you want and post about the characters, I don't give a fuck. Isabela is a lesbian, Camilo is genderfluid, Luisa is trans, Dolores is autistic, all of them are queer and neurodivergent. Just don't be so fucking disgusting against us and our country and our culture. When a latino says that a latino queer character don't represent white queer people (I personally don't care about this but I get why other latinos do) is because historically we have been erased from the lgbt+ movement by you white racists. There are lots of white characters you can headcanon as queer to feel represented. And there are lots of white characters that are canonicaly queer.
I'm not doing this because I have something against white people, but because I have something against racists.

I'm kind of bummed that Mariano didn't get to sing his song that he was going to sing right before he proposed Isabela especially given that the voice actor of mariano is the extremely talented Maluma

It really means the world to me that Mariano wasnt for a moment seen as a villain or bad guy in any way, every scene that they talk about him every scene that he's in he's always a handsome caring generous respectful loving man and it is seen as completely okay that Isabela doesn't want to be with him not because she likes someone else or there is anything anything at all wrong with him she just doesn't want to be with him and that's it they don't even explain why, they don't give her a different love interest, it's just that she doesn't want to be with him. I honestly cannot think of a single piece of media in which that happens, that a girl does not want to be with a guy who respects and loves her not because he's a villain or unattractive or she likes someone else but just because she does not want to be with him and that is painted as completely okay and she's not seen as a b**** for it

The Casita waving goodbye after is saves Mirabel
Things in Encanto that just HIT different
Antonio’s “I need you” to Mirabel
The waves during Surface Pressure
When Camilo got a baby head and yelled MIRABEEEEELLLL
Bruno’s little “it’s actually me” when he shows Mirabel Hernando
Camilo’s “breathe mamí”
Mirabel’s voice crack exclaiming that Bruno’s room is the WORST
“I will never be good enough for you, will I.”
BRUNO HAS FRECKLES
Bruno’s plate
The line in Waiting On A Miracle that says “All I need is a change, all I need is a chance”
Camilo’s part in We Don’t Talk About Bruno, both in English and Español
Bruno’s eyes glowing when he does his vision
Antonio leading Mirabel to the new door like how she lead him to his
Bruno’s “There’s a lot to say about Bruno” in All Of You
In All Of You when Luisa says sometimes I cry and both Isabela and Mirabel go “SO DO I”
“Mirabel. Mirabel. MIRABEL sorry sorry”
“Think of the family!” “I was thinking of my DAUGHTER!”
Bruno’s door lighting up again
Add anymore that y’all feel in the comments and I’ll add some, these are just the ones that hit me in the feels

Also, this movie is not about that! It's not a queer coming of age movie! It's about a family who has ingrained unhealthy coping skills caused by generational trama, who is going through the difficult journey of self reflection and unlearning behaviors. Criticizing a character based on things that are not in the story at all, why?
Alma isn't a bad person- Discussion
Does anyone else get a little annoyed when parts of the fandom treat Abuela Alma like a monster. Like, I've seen multiple people headcannoning her as homophobic or otherwise bigoted and it just makes me uncomfortable- for example I've seen stuff like "Alma would misgender the kids" and it just makes me feel icky.
I hold no ill-will towards the folks themselves who headcannon her in such ways, I just feel strongly upposed to those views on her. Now, I'm not saying I think she'd be like a super educated person on queer topics but her ignorance wouldn't come from malice. And especially after the wake-up call she had in the movie, I think she'd be just as loving towards her family. At the end of the day, despite her many mistakes -(and im not dismissing any anxiety/trauma she may have caused in the rest of the family)- she's also more deep and layered than simply the "traditional conservative" that some make her out to be.
Alma was a young mother with triplets, when her husband (and a bunch of people she probably knew) were chased out of their town and killed in front of her. She likely didn't have much time to properly grieve as she was now expected to lead this newly formed town of traumatized folks with her miracle. She had to handle raising three kids, leading a town, losing her home, watching her husband be murdered, all on her own.
I'm not saying she shouldn't be held accountable for the emotional harm she's caused the family. There's a lot of ammends to be made with probably all her kids and grandkids and a lot of healing and growing to be done, but there isn't a doubt in my mind that Alma would be willing to do that work. She's not a one dimensional "bad-guy" and I think she deserves more nuance.
