Us, connecting over this minor character from Kurama's backstory
I mean, she appeared so briefly, but I'm so obsessed about her wasted potential, about how she was subject of the Curse of Being a Girl in a Shounen Manga, about how much her short episode shows us about Kurama's state of mind, the possibilities of them meeting again in the future? like. I do think he liked her back. I don't think Kurama saw her with the eyes of a grown adult, watching a child develop a childish crush on him, dismissive of her feelings, no, because Kurama himself is not an adult anymore, but I think he also didn't realise how much of a child he was, either? He´s a very old magical creature living as an human teenager who´s coming to terms with the fact that he likes being a human teenager but not quite aware of much of an human teenager he already is, if it makes sense. Because there´s a funny catch: when you´re fourteen you´re very prone to think you´re more mature and in control of yourself than you actually are, that´s sort of classic teenage behaviour. How much prone to understimate his own childlness do you think Kurama of all people was? So there was this girl, she was bright and funny and weird and liked him for being weird, but something dangerous and magical happens to her and he freaks out and has no other way of dealing with this than pushing her away completely - in the exact way a teenager would do but this specific teenager also happens to be magical as well.
Then one year after this his mother gets sick and I think that this is when it finally hits Kurama that he is very much a human boy who likes his human life and loves his human mother very much, and another human boy comes in and shows him he´s not alone in being a magical being in a human world, and Yusuke´s strong and he´s doing quite fine in the middle of this mess. And Kuwabara - same age as Maya, same previous human background, also comes in and is also doing quite fine in the middle of this mess, except none of their powers came from being exposed to Kurama´s magical presence so he doesn´t feel so guilty about it and is much more willing to guide them - specially Kuwabara - through this. But couldn´t he have guided Maya as well? Couldn´t she have turned out fine as well? She was his first contact with a human on the threshold of magic and he liked her so he wasn´t ready for it yet. And alas, she´s a girl in a manga aimed for boys, too.
This girl is such a nerd? I bet she’d love Buzzfeed Unsolved?
Also she’s a surprisingly bold?? 13 year old girl that casually throws it in her school boy crush’s face she’s in love with him??
Millenia old demon fox in human preteen body hears a confession and goes all “??????”

That’s Kurama for you, been away on a death match tournament, gets a top score in school right after coming back. His classmates are a mixture of awed and afraid. Sounds about right.
Oh my god that smile is so fake and it’s hiding a storm. “Exciting test scores? You bet your asses it’s not like I was bleeding out from my gut and helping my friend stage his death mere weeks ago.”

” Come to think of it, that didn’t make a whole lot of sense… what I just did. The point was to stop the whole ‘sad mom’ thing, but then my mom would’ve been sad.”

Let me do one better: the high-school teacher? It's Miroku's reincarnation. The police detective? Sango's. They become invested on this case because they feel this mysterious connection towards this girl (Kagome) they only see in pictures (or in reincarnated Miroku's case this melancholic former student he felt somehow responsible for but never acted on it while she was his student due to fear of being misinterpreted as creepy, which is ironic coming from Miroku reincarnated, but now the girl disappeared with no trace and he regrets not following his gut feeling years ago) but they can't explain why they feel this way because it's a connection that goes through the soul, something that clashes with the rationality an investigation demands, adding a tragic touch to the whole thriller!!! I'll never write this fanfic!!!
anyone think about how Kagome's classmates probably, and with good reason, believe that she died after high school. like the girl was out sick almost constantly for a year in middle school, seemed to get better, and then just disappeared right after graduation. they all 100% think she was terminally ill and just hid it really well. people she hardly knew probably wrote social media posts like
"we were so close, I can't believe she's gone. she was so brave right up until the end. fly high baby girl 👼😔🕊️ rip kagome higurashi"

Howl truly is the man of all time. He’s a playboy. He’s a malewife. He fell in love with a ninety year old woman. He’s a rugby player. He smells like hyacinths. He’s not a natural blond. When dying his hair went slightly wrong, he filled his home with slime. He has a PhD. He’s a wizard. He found a way to another universe and he told absolutely nobody about it. He makes video games about the magical universe for his nephews. He can’t play the guitar. He always takes a guitar with him when he’s trying to seduce a woman. He’s a self-proclaimed coward. He got drunk to trick himself into doing something dangerous. He overcharges for his services to rich people. He undercharges for his services to poor people. A woman invaded his home and declared herself his cleaning lady and he just let her stay. He loves spiders. He lies about his surname to everyone, including royalty. The true spelling of his first name is Howell, but we don’t find out until halfway through the book because the POV character thinks it’s spelled Howl. He’s even Welsh.
