The last 12 Months
Its hard to believe we’ve only got one week left for this year and how time has flown out the window. It was only 10 months ago when we were all walking to class for the first time all starry eyed not knowing what was ahead of us, From there we’ve learnt a myriad of skills from 3D modeling, C# to improved communication (which considering my social skills at the start of last year I think I’ve come a long way and will hopefully get better from here).
All that said i cant wait for next year and the new challenges that will bring.

Gold Today
The time is finally upon us, Our Gold Milestone.
Its been an amazing 12 weeks to say the least with how much I’ve learnt and grown.
And not to mention the other disciplines, those guys are miracle makers i tell you, us designers may bring everything together but they make it all, (not to mention how awesome it is to watch them make things in real time and I cant wait to do more work with them next year)
until next time we have work to do

more QA
been doing QA for the last 2 day all i have to say is i feel sorry for the poor sap who plays this against me at my dads Christmas eve party.
but seriously i see what they meant when they said QA will get to you (if i have to listen to those sound effects again after this so help me).
it is really interesting to have a poke at the game allowing you too see the cracks so the others can fix them only to have more cracks lurking for you to further find
until the next time I’ve got some documentation to do

first day of gold
well guys its finally started and we’re on the home stretch, been doing tons of QA today while my other designer gets everything spick and span as possible.
one of the things which was funny today was that the invisible walls weren't on the edges of the map which i accidentally found when a grenade sent one of the soldiers flying across the map

betas in
two weeks of project to go and three weeks until the end of the school year, its been an amazing experience to say the least, especially with how fast games change through iteration and testing (it always feels so weird playing the game with animations for the first time when you've spent so much time without them)
time to get back to the game I’m working on

reflection on the state of things so far
this morning Ben was talking about our groups and compared us to last years groups and its really good to hear that no groups are in any real trouble (IE infighting, communication issues, people not showing up). he also told us about how the games we’re making now are just below what the Swinburne third years are making (which really makes me relieved since i was intending to go their back when i was still at Braemar College).
with all that said onward to beta

alpha milestone
well guys we’ve submitted our alpha milestone and damn does it feel good to be one step closer to gold, I’ve learnt so much in just this milestone for example that two people committing the same file on SVN would turn out badly (i warned him) but hey at least we learned something and am looking forward to learning more so remember kids fail faster.

paper prototyping
today my group decided to sit down and play a simulated version of our game with dnd/star wars miniatures as soldiers and DBZ figures as the bears. this was really good because it showed where the flaws in our game are and cleared up some fears that we had that were worrying a few of our group members

Industry panel
yesterday we had to give a presentation to a panel of industry professionals which included some people who have worked and are currently working on some pretty big titles which was very interesting and comforting when one of them told us the team hes apart of for an upcoming AAA title is going through the same thing we are.
luckily i didn't mess up my lines and we didn't get torn to shreds

nearly there
well guy it seems like I've finished everything i needed to this week which is good because my producer is out of the country right now (Fiji to be exact, great place by the way) so I’ve had to pick up the rest of the submissions before the break (in which i need to bring my bank balance up so i can start doing stuff again)
well until the next time lets hope we can get the presentation prep done with a person missing

nearly holidays
well guys we’re nearly at school holidays which means theres not much time until the industry firing squad panel where we have to present our game so we can get their professional opinions.
the flaying professional opinion should be infinitely useful.

another unit done
well guys looks like the testing unit is done and with that we get on to our end of year project (which makes me both exited and anxious).
luckily my AlphaBetaGamer game was really fun so had no trouble playing through it on an hourly basis.
on another note most of the programs on my 64bit computer are 32bit so I’m going to need to wipe my computer and start from square one which is going to slow me down significantly.

Well we’re now in the last week of testing and we’ve just had the Programming and Art teachers come in and explain how we’re meant to work with the Programmers and Artists we’re going to be grouping up with to make a game for the final unit of the year.
It’d be an understatement to say I’m exited and Id be lying if i said i wasn't a little anxious.

testing
well guys we’re half way through testing and all i have to say is that I love my Alpha Beta Gamer game (which is a huge relief). we’ve also just done our smoke test sheet which I've been needing a proper version for.
on another note I’m now 19 which is fun

unit 4 done
with unit 4 done we can now move on to QA and how to make the programmers lives harder. while i did have some problems getting my narrative map done i got it got done in the end. the only regret with my map was not making it more snug and small.
I guess the saying less is more fits here

well...
after losing my work because my USB fragmented i spent all of today (sunday 30th of july) rebuilding my level from memory. luckily i managed to unfragment the textures while watching star trek: generations and first contact (good movies by the way) last night. good thing my level is kind of fixed now.
time for another glass of mead.
god forbid i deserve it
