The Storm Inside
Tumblr media
Title : The Storm Inside
Book : Open Heart series (Choices - Pixelberry)
Description : Casey has been pushing everyone away and spiraling since the attack on the hospital and her loved ones are concerned.
Pairing : none established  / ambiguous
Characters : Open Heart FMC (Casey Valentine), Sienna Trinh, Bryce Lahela, Jackie Varma, Rafael Aviero, Elijah Greene, Aurora Emery, Kyra Santana, Danny (mentioned), Bobby (mentioned)
Warnings : mention of death, mental health
Prompt : “What’s the weather outside your window doing right now?...”
Casey stared vacantly out the floor length windows into the night sky above Boston from her seat against them on the living room floor. The sky was as clear as could be, a rarity for the area, but in a city as populous as Boston seeing the stars was a gift they were never granted. She stretched out her cramping legs to a different position as she leaned her head and left shoulder against the cool glass.
She looked out of windows with alarming frequency now. She had never really done so before, preferring to always be doing other things. She’d always thought of herself as a social person who enjoyed others company, though she could be either out dancing in a packed club or relaxing away a quiet night in with the same level of enjoyment. Friends and loved ones was all she really needed.
The attack on Edenbrook had changed everything, down to her very bones.
Some days her mood was somber but calm, like a cloudy day. Those were her best days and the ones she liked best. The cloudy days could be darker with threat of rain or lighter with the sun just missing the opportunity to come out. It was the closest to her old self she could feel. Unfortunately for her, those days were not only fleeting and the least common, they were becoming a rarity.
More often, her moods were a range of levels of sadness. All the way from a misting drizzle, enough to coat everything in water and make the air humid, to a torrentially pouring rain. Buckets from heavens and flash floods. The only thing those floods never seemed to leave clean was herself.
Other times she was cold. So, so cold. The best of those days were accompanied with a blizzard. Cold, but manageable with a shovel. On the days  where she left her heart covered in an inch thick layer of ice and brandished her words like weaponized icicles, frigid and sharp, the people around her knew to steer clear. She was getting a little too good and stabbing them where it hurt.
Her worst moods felt like she should alert the National Weather Service. Tornado warnings and hurricane evacuations were a courtesy she never felt up to extending, adding to her already astronomical guilt. Like a twister, she could feel so angry and out of control she would tear through everyone in her path with no regard for who or what was in it. She had hurt people, especially the ones she loved, deeply but couldn’t bring herself to stop. It was like watching her body act with someone else at the controls.
It was just one more thing about herself to hate lately, and it had a long line to stand in.
The weather in reality never matched what she felt inside. It fascinated and disgusted her in equal measure. It had been sunny (mostly) since the funeral. It was repulsive.
Bobby was dead. Danny was dead. Raf had almost died and would have god knew how many long term problems ahead because of the illness. She had nearly died. And the world just kept spinning.
Couldn’t they see? Couldn’t any of them see that she was stuck there in that room. That she had never recovered. That she couldn’t recover.
At first, when her friends had noticed her strange new affinity for gazing outside for hours every night, they tried to pull her away. Distract her with things like herbal teas, chocolate ice cream and support. They tried to shower her with her favorite pastimes from before. They tried dancing around the apartment to silly pop songs and playing video games with her. But they didn’t understand. And they didn’t stop.
So she bit them. Hard.
Now they left her alone.
She was an awful person. She shouldn’t have been allowed to live. Someone should have realized it at the hospital and just let her die.
She could feel the tears well up again, stinging her eyes as her inner clouds started to rain again. The night sky outside stayed perfectly cloudy.
It was going to be a long night.
Sienna stood around the corner, watching her best friend shatter silently, as she had done every night for over a month. She whispered to those behind her, “Don’t you all see? Nothing is helping and she’s getting worse. After the last time she panicked when I reached out, I thought I’d give her space. We all did. But it’s not working. Does anyone have any suggestions?”
The gathered assembly of those in the cramped penthouse hallway who loved a young doctor named Casey watched her crumble, weeping without making a sound...and no one said anything. Some of the smartest doctors in the nation, and no one had an answer.
Not Bryce, who stood off to the side watching the pain on the face of the first true friend he’d made while at Edenbrook. Someone who had looked past the brash, self-confidence he used as a shield. The first person he hadn’t been afraid of discovering his past.
Not Rafael, who stood at the back of the crowd, down the hall, not able to stand to look at the person who made him believe he was worth as much to her as these intelligent, talented and more well off friends of hers. Not as she could no longer see how much she was worth.
Not Jackie, who was used to facing her problems by cackling at them until they scurried off with tails between legs or tearing them out with her teeth. But this was a problem that required delicacy, the type she had been shown by the very woman who now needed it.
Not Ethan, who leaned against the wall as he saw his protégé, the first person he’d ever believed in this much, destroy herself. She had forced herself, her goodness, into his life and helped fix his hurt self. Now it was his turn and he, for the first time, found himself at a loss.
Not Aurora, her rival turned friend who showed her at her loneliest that having friend was worth something after all. Not Elijah, a beacon of positivity who felt entirely inadequate with this situation that left her emotionally impaired. Not Kyra, desperate to find some way to give Casey the support she had given. Not Sienna, whose heart broke as she watched her very best friend, her dolphin, her rock in many ways fall further and further into herself.
Each one of them loved her. Each one of them cared for her. Each of them had a purpose and a reason to be at Edenbrook, but Casey was the glue that had held them all together. That glue, their foundation, was compromised. This time, they needed to find a way to save her. This time, she couldn’t waltz her way into a miracle seemingly handed down by the divines themselves to fix the situation.
Giving voice to their silent thoughts, Bryce whispered softer than before, “She needs us. She has to know it. She has to know we’re here somewhere inside, but can’t ask. Won’t ask.”
“We’ve already lost so much because of the attack,” Sienna said quietly. “We can’t lose her now. I can’t.”
“None of us can,” Rafael replied softly.
There was practically a flashing beacon over Casey’s head, screaming help me please. It was long overdue for them to stop ignoring it. For a few pregnant minutes, they all looked around at each other and back to her. This mismatched band of misfits and nerds, bound this night by their affection for one single woman. They stared at each other, desperate for answers…
Until the one who loved her most went rigid. Then stepped toward the rest, speaking slowly.
“I...may have an idea.”
[BREAK]
Notes : I left the ending open for interpretation on purpose. This story is not intended to be expanded on or have a second part. Y’all can decide who the person who loves her most is (and if that person isn’t presently named in my story, you can put them there yourself :D)
Also, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the amazing writers I’ve talking to lately. Due to some truly awful comments and the way they were affecting me mentally, I recently purged all of my works but a few from fanfiction.net, AO3, and here on tumblr. Talking to, interacting with, and just seeing you lovelies in action has led me to believe I should start to do this again.
Huge shout out to @jerzwriter and @lovealexhunt for being the lovely souls they are. You may have no idea who I am, especially on this blog rather than my main, but I will never stop being grateful for the positivity you put into the world. Thank you.

Ranked: Mother of the Year (Choices) Main Characters
I can’t sleep so that means I need to make another list that I’m not going to proofread before I post, right? Of course it does. But before we start, please remember this is my opinion on who I liked best. Not who impacted the story the most, not who was the best written fictional character of all time, yada yada. This is my personal opinion of the characters I liked best.
Spoilers WILL be featured below. You have been warned.
#13 -- Tallulah Copeland
Tallulah is a parent to a child at Bernhardt Academy, a friend of Vanessa Blackwood, and an active member of the PTA. Hugo is her partner.
This woman. I would flat forget this woman existed until she would show up again just to wreak havoc on MC’s day, usually at someone else’s urging. Every single time she spoke, I just wanted it to be over and she is just an awful, AWFUL person. She’s also the only awful person in this book who never pretends to be nice and/or never apologizes for her actions. Just an all around nasty person.
#12 -- Hugo
Hugo is a parent of a child at Bernhardt Academy and an active member of the PTA. Tallulah is his significant other.
If you’re actually reading these little blurbs, you have to be wondering “MagnoliaPip? How in the hell is Hugo ranked lower than two other unmentionables in this story?”
Thank you for asking, no one ever.
Put frankly, Hugo just annoyed the crap out of me. I know that’s supposed to be part of his character, but it went above and beyond the scope of acceptable annoyance. I grew to hate every second he was speaking. He never really contributed anything to the plot other than some irritating drivel. He wasn’t an antagonist, but he also wasn’t a pleasing good guy. He’s also the reason I’m considering not re-reading this book again right away like I want to.
#11 -- Guy Ledford
This man. This. Man. THIS MAN!
This part is going to include major spoilers, y’all, so if you haven’t read it and are still intending to, skip away now!! Again, major spoilers from here on out kids.
Guy Ledford is your main character’s ex-husband who has been absent for four years since the start of the book and wants to reconnect with his daughter. He is also a CEO of a snack food company/app, Nomme. He is the main antagonist of the book.
The reason I didn’t rank him lower is he genuinely adds something to the plot. He IS the plot. He’s the reason this book exists. However, he is such a scumbag he deserves nothing. He feels like a trope for quite a lot of the time, but at least he’s not physically abusive like a true trope could have been (at least, I never noticed him being physically abusive). Just, you know, a gaslighting, manipulative, arrogant, rude, selfish son of a-
I also love that they named him “Guy”. I’ve only ever met one man named this in my life, so it’s funny to me that they named this jerk “Guy” so it’s not only the most generic sounding name (did his parents also get a dog named “Dog” and a cat named “Kitty”?), but also one that a lot of men won’t likely have so they don’t have to get name checked in relation to him.
I like that you can get a good outcome (Guy ends up with joint custody with visitations  every weekend and having to back pay) without spending diamonds in this game as long as you make the right choices, but for those who DID spend all of the diamonds, I would have liked to have seen Guy end up with worse. I would have liked to see, if you made most of the right choices and bought all of the diamond stuff, him ending up with every other weekend or maybe just visitation. I know he’s trying to be a good dad (but still an absolutely terrible human being), but every weekend seems like so much when your daughter is in school.
#10 -- Augustus Blackwood
August Blackwood is one of Vanessa Blackwood’s sons and is a student at Bernhardt Academy.
I’m not going to spend a lot of time on this one. But he hurt my daughter and that’s enough. I would have liked to have seen him fleshed out a little bit more beyond being basically just a schoolyard bully. His motivations for his actions are hinted on, but nothing is really ever done and he’s mostly just a prop for something to hurt your daughter.
#9 -- Vanessa Blackwood
Vanessa Blackwood is the president of the PTA, a single mom, and a lawyer and becomes an antagonist to your character.
I’m probably going to get hate for this, but I want to like Vanessa. Obviously, she’s hateful and offensive, in some very, very unredeemable ways, but there’s something about characters like that which makes me want to forgive them and teach them how to be better. How to rehabilitate their bitterness. I felt it with Olivia Nevrakis, I felt it with Victoria Fontaine, and I know certain people in the fandom felt it with Becca Davenport and Poppy Min-Sinclair.
**DISCLAIMER** Keep in mind, I’m not trying to excuse homophobia and racism here. They are both despicable things and should be accounted for. However, after having grown up in a homophobic and racist home and learning to leave that shit in the dust by the time I was eighteen and SLOWLY teaching my family to do the same over the course of the last 10 years, I believe people can change if you give them room and help to. Not everyone will, not many people will, but I believe in giving the chance. We need to force people to take responsibility and learn from their mistakes. Should the book have been approved as a series rather than a stand alone, I think this might have been a very real option within book 2.
#8 -- Ajax “AJ” Blackwood
Ajax Blackwood is one of Vanessa Blackwood’s sons and a student at Bernhardt Academy.
AJ is the quieter of the Blackwood boys, AJ is a shy kid who hates that his brother is mean just as much as your daughter does. He finally has enough within the book and stands up to him, which was more than a little satisfying and he does seem to have a genuinely good heart. I think it would be so cute for him, your daughter, and Luz to be their own adorable trio of friends.
#7 -- Levi Schuler
Levi Schuler is your neighbor who helps save the day for MC early on in the book and becomes a friend to both her and your daughter. He is also one of your love interests.
And if this list is going to invoke hate from the masses, it will be this entry that does it. I know how loved Levi is. And I love him too! I just find him, and his musician plot, to be a bit tiring. He’s a wonderfully supportive friend/love interest, just about one of the nicest people, and he’s great with your daughter. I swear, all of the love interests in this book would be god tier in any book. It’s truly unfair to the others that we got three amazing ones here along with a great cast of characters. However, since that did happen, Levi will sit here at #7. He can have a consolatory rugelach while I continue on.
#6 -- Faye Devore
Faye Devore is your ex-husband’s new girlfriend, a younger social media influencer.
I loved Faye. Right from the start, I loved Faye. I prayed they weren’t going to make this into one of those books where we were supposed to hate the “other woman” because those plots are old, outdated, and overused. Thankfully, MOTY lets us skirt right around it and we end up with a wonderful character like Faye, who is the human definition of having the best intentions.
She gets on well with your daughter, even pointing out to MC at one point that she thinks of her like a little sister, and goes above and beyond to make her happy. She is genuinely upset about going against MC’s wishes about your daughter appearing on social media and doesn’t appear to want to cause any harm or hard feelings with MC at any point during the book. In fact, she wants to be friends.
I would have loved for this and for it to be fleshed out more, again, if we had ever gotten a book 2. I’m also that jerk who would have totally romanced her in a replay and would have emptied my wallet to get a scene in that hypothetical book 2 where Guy finds out. Take that homophobe!
#5 -- Dr. Eiko Matsunaga
Dr. Eiko Matsunaga is a science teacher who teaches at the private school your daughter goes to and becomes friendly with MC because of your daughter. She is also one of your love interests.
If I would have had a teacher like Dr. Matsunaga when I was in school, maybe I would have cared about science at any point during my childhood. Eiko is so incredibly smart but has a heart of gold. She could be off teaching at colleges or writing published journals, but she’s teaching elementary science at a private school and honestly enjoying herself! She wants to see children succeed and will give any child who wants to do so, like your daughter, all of the help they need.
I want to romance her. I want to be her friend. I want it all because I’m selfish even when I don’t because I could never possibly be worthy of the supremacy that is Eiko. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
#4 -- Your Daughter / Zoey
Your daughter is 9 years old at the start of the book and desperately wants to be an astronaut. She is a science whiz and moves from public school to Bernhardt Academy at the beginning of the book to kickstart her education.
It makes me so sad that I will never actually have this child. “Zoey” is just so smart and funny and sweet and I love her so much. I spent so many diamonds on her. She’s a pixelated little bundle of amazing and I would die for her. That’s it.
#3 -- Alma Velasco
Alma Velasco is your neighbor, best friend, and (for part of the time) co-worker.
What did our character do to deserve such an amazing ride-or-die friend like Alma? She never disbelieves MC, is forever supportive as a shoulder to cry on and a supplier of good wine, and also helps MC out of more than one pinch. Seriously an amazing friend, and I wish we could have done something equally amazing for her to reciprocate.
#2 -- Thomas Mendez
Thomas Mendez is a lawyer and a single dad who becomes friends with MC very early on in the book. He is also one of your three love interests.
A big reason for why Thomas is at #2 is because of who #1 is but we’ll get there in a second.
There’s also something about Thomas that speaks to me as a person. It’s more than just being interested as a love interest or as a friend. There’s something about who he is. His awkwardness, his humor, his kindness and his generosity all make him someone I envy as much as I admire.
He takes on MC’s case pro bono when he doesn’t have to. He shrugs it off like it’s no big deal, but stepping back and looking at the it, by all accounts he was walking into a handily losing situation. He was also super busy at this time being a single parent himself and working on his class action lawsuit. That’s not even saying anything about him still grieving for Soledad.
However, the biggest reason I love Mr. Mendez is...
#1 -- Luz Mendez
Luz Mendez is a student at Bernhardt Academy who becomes best friends with your daughter early in the book. She is a soccer and art fan.
This little girl is the best thing I have ever read in my entire life. She made the entire book. Every character that came before her pales in comparison to her majesty. She is a goddamn queen and deserves everything.
Every scene with her is gold and I wish we had more. This little girl was completely willing to curb stomp someone with her cleats at the courthouse if something would have happened to your daughter. She is so aggressively herself and it is a joy to see. The relationship between her and her father is what really kept me going through the book’s more difficult spots. There is such true love and acceptance there, as well as the drive and desire to do better for the other than I just...There is really no way for me to properly explain the perfection that is Luz Mendez so I guess you’ll just have to read it yourself.
---
I’m not sure why it took me so long to start reading Mother of the Year (MOTY), but I’m so glad I did. In 3 days flat I binged the entire book, wasted so many accumulated diamonds, and had the time of my life. The cast of characters in MOTY is perfect and I wanted to rank them according to my opinion on which ones were the best. I ranked all of the characters I found to be profound enough to matter to the storyline or that MC or “Daughter” had enough interactions with to matter. As a result, there are several characters who didn’t make this list.
Sound off below if you wish.

Potential Open Heart Love Interests Who Were Wasted
By now, we all understand that Pixelberry has wasted every single fragment of potential that the Open Heart series had. Frequently overshadowed by aimless plotlines and unbalanced attention toward the four love interests we had is the vast array of potential love interests the OH series could have had. This list is the top 10 (yes, 10) love interests PB wasted. This means that this list will not be discussing the wasted potential in the four love interests we were handed (Bryce, Jackie, Rafael and Ethan).
Please note that some of these (especially toward the bottom) are included more for fan service than for actual wasted potential. Also, these are all my own opinions. Please feel free to share your own! There may be spoilers below. Viewer discretion is advised!
---------
#10 -- Baz Mirani
Not introduced until Book 2 of the Open Heart series, Baz is the friendlier and more outgoing of the two Doctors Mirani. One of the top in his field of immunology, Baz manages to balance his intellect with an easygoing nature. A relaxed positivity that almost comes off as too much. He was never really around enough, nor did he have the right interactions with MC in the series to feel like a fully developed love interest. However, after having the options in another PB book Laws of Attraction, it might have been interesting to see how it would turn out if MC could hook up with Baz.
#9 -- June Hirata
Also not introduced until Book 2, Dr. Hirata is a ruthless force to be reckoned with. A cunning behavior psychologist and brilliant neurologist, one can never really know what to expect from June, though this is mostly because no one can tell if her actions are genuine. After MC is told how June “earned” her place on the diagnostics team, it becomes clear that she will stop at nothing to get what she wants. Honestly, the prospect of having that directed toward MC...yeah, I want it. Badly. The only reason she isn’t higher on the list is because of her social inconsistency..
#8 -- Zaid Mirani
One of two senior residents introduced to the MC in book 1, Zaid is partly responsible for managing the interns. Zaid is the more blunt of the Mirani twins and can come off as an ass. He’s also shown to have a softer side that comes out in increasing increments throughout the series culminating in a touching moment in book 3. Once more, Zaid isn’t someone the MC interacts with a whole lot throughout the books, acting more as a recurring character to pop up once or twice a book, but I think that is a crock. I wanted more Zaid and I’m sorry we didn’t get it.
#7 -- Elijah Greene
A fellow intern at Edenbrook Hospital, MC meets Elijah in book 1 along with the rest of their group of friends. Elijah quickly becomes a steadfast friend and even a roommate. Clearly a brilliant doctor with a future in research, Elijah balances this with his upbeat personality and love of science fiction and gaming. Characters like Elijah often get relegated to the realm of being a best friend and it might have been nice to see him opened up as a possible love interest. He’s fiercely loyal, as seen by his defense in book 2 at the baseball game, and is steadfastly determined to get where he wants to be. There’s a lot to be admired in Elijah, but considering PB dropped his canon love interest, Phoebe, I shouldn’t be surprised that he was never an option anyway.
#6 -- Sienna Trinh
Sienna is literally the best.
I should just end it there because anyone who has read the series knows, but for the sake of this list…Sienna is an ally of MC’s right from the moment they meet, when Sienna helps get MC out of a sticky situation. This perfectly encompasses Sienna’s character. She spends the entire series taking care of everyone but herself and being just the sweetest, kindest, most amazing baker and chinchilla mommy that exists. After what happens in book 1 and book 2 with both of her canon love interests, well, #Siennadeservesbetter. And I think her fellow dolphin would have been the perfect person for her.
The only reason she is so far down on the list is because she does make such an incredible best friend.
#5 -- Harper Emery
The female older mentor to match Ethan. Harper would have been in a more compromised position, not just being a direct superior to MC like Ethan, but also being the Chief of Medicine for the hospital. As an admin, watching her toe the line between desire and propriety would have been just *chef’s kiss*. Instead, her role was consigned to being the family member too hard on their younger charge, projecting what she wants but can’t have onto Aurora. Now that I think about it, that last sentence makes me want it even more.
Besides, it would have been another female love interest rather than the one that we seem to get every book and a woman of color at that.
#4 -- Landry Olsen
I know what you’re thinking but just hear me out for a second and then you can eviscerate me in the comments.
Landry is a character that has me torn in more ways than one. First, I love the twist in book 1 where we see him for who he “truly is”. It was unexpected and a lovely change.
That notwithstanding, I was also deeply saddened to see yet another promising story not come to pass. See, there aren’t many characters like Landry who are so incredibly awkward but also come off as friendly. It was a lovely change of pace and it would have been amazing, just the sweetest, to see MC bring Landry out of his shell. MC could have helped Landry gain confidence to do far more than talk to the girl across the bar. Before the end of the book, he would have been having a full ass conversation with Ethan and maybe even mustering up the bravery to ask MC out. All of the pieces were there, either as platonic friend or love interest. Instead, Landry lived long enough to see himself become the villain. But my friends to lovers slowburn adoring heart will always have a piece longing for what could have been. Judge me if you will.
#3 -- Tobias Carrick
Originally introduced in book 2 to be to Ethan what Mass Kenmore is to Edenbrook, Tobias’ story takes a flip once book 3 comes around. Immediately compelling from the get go, Tobias shows a charming competitive nature sprinkled with arrogance, grey morality, and a devilish side. Tobias’ personality would either be completely in line with MC or completely against MC depending on how you tend to play the game. Both are completely valid and interesting options. Even before the infamous beet puns in book 3, Tobias made me want to know more. Tobias was the ultimate character in the Open Heart series that would have made a perfect one night stand. Alas, it seems we’ll never know more and must stick to the fantastic fanfiction writers on sites like this to sate us.
#2 -- Aurora Emery
Let me tell you, the line between #’s 1 and 2 is so thin it’s barely there. Those two are so close I almost can’t distinguish which one I wanted more. Aurora is first presented to MC and the gang as an intern who seems like she may become an antagonist of the series. As Book 1 presses on, we start to see Aurora in a whole new light. MC comes to understand why Aurora has the cold and closed off personality she does and when given the chances later in the series, Aurora opens up into almost an entirely different person as she finds herself outside of the expectations of her family.
Aurora is a brilliant doctor very nearly on the same level as MC and later seems to become a parallel to MC for what Tobias is to Ethan. Thankfully Aurora and MC’s relationship is a lot less volatile, but those brief fireworks make me really wish Aurora and MC would have officially been a thing. I feel like PB was weighing the option for a while but decided against it, much to their detriment.
However, I had to push Aurora down for one specific reason to come in the explanation for #1. And #1 is…
#1 -- Farley the Landlord
Be honest. After having Landry on this list, you thought this was a serious entry for a second, didn’t you? Just kidding!
(the real) #1 -- Kyra Santana
Kyra meets MC for the first time when Ethan dubiously introduces her to them because Kyra broke her arm in an accident. Right from the start, Kyra is an incorrigible flirt, obviously egged on by her cancer diagnosis and fear of death. Kyra has such an incredible story. Throughout books 1 and 2, Kyra is an incredible friend to MC and it breaks my heart that PB dropped her romantic storyline the way they did.
This is why Kyra edged out Aurora for #1. Going back and re-reading book 1, it’s always obvious that Kyra was meant to be a love interest. I’m not sure what stopped them from going forward with it. I’d like to think it had something to do with potential backlash for having a patient and their doctor get involved, but I think it has more to do with being a woman or a woman of color than anything else. Which is a damned shame. We stan Kyra Santana in this house and I wanted to leave with her at the end of book 2.
----
So what do you all think? Do you agree with any of my placements? Vehemently disagree with others? I wrote this at 2am when I couldn’t sleep and didn’t bother to proofread before posting so you’re welcome.
Let me know below and cross your fingers for the finale of Open Heart book 3 coming later today!!

Life Events: Planning a Wedding (Choices: Open Heart)
Jackie : She tells everyone when in public that planning a wedding is her personal nightmare. With others, she will constantly answer innocent inquiries of “How’s the planning coming?” on a sliding scale of snide remarks about the usefulness of bouquets to a quiet snarl regarding the utter incompetence of salespersons. But at home, she spends hours pouring over every last detail with you. Though she’d never admit it if even you were to call her out on it, it becomes obvious that her favorite part of the entire process is, oddly enough, her wedding dress. Stacks of magazines and brochures cover her bedside table and she engages in one very heated debate over the subtle differences between pearl white and diamond white.
Bryce : Bryce is completely invested in the process and you find yourself taking a backseat, needing to be the one to rein him in. Though it is easy at times to get exasperated trying to explain to him that you don’t need a twenty person choir at the ceremony, you know he’s only doing this because he loves you that much. Though you’re not certain how your wedding will look, you know for sure it will be a hell of a day to remember.
Aurora : Working for your big day with Aurora went far smoother than you could have ever imagined. Though Aurora can sometimes freeze when in immediate crisis with medicine, it’s you who does so with your wedding. Aurora has no such fear and seems to pull solutions to problems from thin air as you can only gawk in awe. What if the DJ cancels? What if it rains? What if the officiant doesn’t show? What if someone gets too drunk and starts to cause problems? What if someone gets hurt? (“We’re doctors, for god’s sake!” “Oh...right.”)
Rafael : With Rafael, it’s important to him that every bit of the planning has to be agreed upon together. You both wish for this wedding to be one that each of you and your loved ones can enjoy and the only way to make sure of that without stepping on toes is to make sure every piece of it is done as a pair. At the very least, you see it as good practice for marriage. Or at least, that’s what avó says. The one piece you’re thrilled to let him take the lead on is with the seating arrangement. With his inherent charm and friendliness, he understands everyone coming so well that he can innately see in ways you can’t who would have the best time at your reception.
Ethan : Though someone never to take for granted the finer things in life, he’s always balked at seemingly baseless frivolity. Thus when it comes time to plan your wedding, he shows considerable difficulty in understanding the necessity of the entire affair. Whether it be the agonizingly endless sample displays of lighting to “just so much damned ribbon”, the best part of him is when he sees how happy it all makes you. Suffering for just a while longer will be worth it in the end.
Sienna : With the both of you, planning the wedding is a breeze, but there’s one part Sienna is stuck on. After visiting countless bakers for your wedding cake and trying sample after sample, Sienna insists that they aren’t good enough. She practically demands in that adorably terrifying way of hers that she is the only one who can make a wedding cake good enough for the two of you. You hesitate, wanting her to relax before the big day and not be bogged down by a silly detail such as the cake. Then you see the little spark of fear in her eyes and know in your soul that she would be more worried before the wedding if she wasn’t able to do this. Your beautiful (soon-to-be) wife and incredible doctor with the soul of a baker. Only weeks later, after the wedding, would she shyly show you the absolutely massive scrapbook she had hidden from you filled to the brim with recipes and pictures of stunning cakes.
Elijah : Though Elijah is super stoked about having the party of the century to celebrate, he’s correspondingly not excited about the ceremony: all of the frills and thrills, the staring eyes and formality of the traditional wedding circuit. When you notice his resistance to help with the planning over the course of a few weeks, you start to probe into whether everything is alright. When you finally work up the nerve to ask him if he even really wants to get married, he’s horrified. Of course he does, but he has to confess that he doesn’t actually want the full tux and dress function. Relieved beyond measure, you agree to have an intimate ceremony for just the two of you and throw a bash so grand as to make Hollywood jealous to celebrate.

Notes :
I hope you guys enjoyed it! This was requested by an anon who wanted “proposal/planning a wedding” after my first post. Once I read “planning a wedding”, the headcanons were immediate. I’m not sure whether or not I will do the proposal one. That one is going to depend on where OH3 goes and whether we get to lock in a LI in any special way (I’m not expecting a proposal or anything!).
My first post can be found here : “While You’re Pregnant”

Note
The pregnancy H/C was so cute! Please could you do one for the OH characters proposal/planning a wedding?
Apologies for not replying right away! I didn't realize at first I had an ask, but I hope this finds you.
I wasn't planning on continuing this as a series, but now the plot bunnies have swarmed and left me with little choice. I have started writing "planning a wedding" for each character. The proposal I'm going to hold off on until the end of book 3 just in case there's some dramatic "would you be mine?"/lock in love interest scene.
"Why did you respond to this ask? Why didn't you just write and post it?"
Like I said, I wasn't planning on continuing. If I do, I just don't want anyone to think this will be copied or plagiarized from other authors with similar formats, most notably @aelin-and-feyre whom inspired my "while you're pregnant" post in that format.
So stay tuned. It will be released shortly if you're interested. Otherwise, thanks for reading!!

Life Events: While You’re Pregnant (Choices: Open Heart)
Bryce : He’s a neurotic mess the entirety of the pregnancy. Though he is so, so happy and excited to be sharing this experience with you, he also worries himself sick about the future of raising the child. In his usual way, he tries to brush you off with a smirk and boast as you attempt to soothe him but eventually caves late one night and tells you how terrified he is of history repeating itself. At all costs, he doesn’t want to end up like his parents. You’re not worried though. You spotted the Guide to being a first time father books he tried to hide from you. Even without the baby there yet, he’s already a better parent than his own could ever hope to be and you can’t wait for him to be able to show it.
Rafael : A family man through and through, Raf spends the entire pregnancy eagerly awaiting the birth. The baby can’t come quick enough for either of you, though he recognizes that your urgency has more to do of late with discomfort than anything else. To ease this, he tends to your every need without question and most times before you can even ask. There’s always an extra glass of water, pillow for your lower back, and foot massage at the ready. In the evenings as you both wind down for the night, he frequently talks to the baby in Portuguese despite your insistence that the baby can’t hear him. After a few nights of this, you stop telling him and just enjoy the sweet moments, waiting for the day he can talk to a small bundle in his arms rather than your belly.
Ethan : Ethan understands that no matter how much he loves and dotes on you, that your health and the health of your unborn babe aren’t something he can control. Because of this, he controls it in the only way he knows how. He loses himself in the science of pregnancy, devouring pregnancy books and medical journals with a ferocity reserved for those he loves most. You watch it with a fond smile and full heart. At around 5 months in, once the baby starts moving, Ethan takes to sleeping while spooning you from behind. This so he can fall asleep with his hand on your swollen belly each night, desperate for any chance to feel a potential danger before it happens. It can be a little much, the incessant questions and interrogation surrounding what you ate that day and how everything feels, making you feel more patient than wife. But the obvious love shining in his eyes through the worry have you willingly surrendering to the study, knowing it’s only a few short months away.
Jackie : She becomes overprotective. Like, overbearingly so. You feel like you can’t walk three steps to the bathroom without her staring after you. She encourages you to go out for walks in the evenings to destress, but practically snarls at anyone who gets within three feet of you. If you try to call her out on it, she rolls her eyes and covers herself with a flippant comment, usually causing you to smirk back at her. You just can’t stay annoyed with someone who clearly loves you and your unborn darling so much. You can’t wait for the day you can tell your sweet baby all about how her Momma once dressed a man down so hard he cried in the yogurt shop queue for cutting in front of you at six months along.
Sienna : Never in your wildest dreams had you imagined an entire crafting world dedicated to babies, but Sienna found it. Knitting, sewing, stamping, painting, scrapbooking, and hot gluing things you didn’t know could be hot glued. She attacks it all with the same vigor she applies to late night brownies, which she still always finds time to make for you. A Supermom with a red bedazzled cape, you know your baby is going to be the most loved little one there ever was.
Aurora : A journey she honestly never foresaw herself going on, this is one that she can’t follow in the already treaded footsteps of Aunt Harper for, even if she had wanted to this time. The stakes seem higher. Though Aunt Harper never had any children of her own, she’s always there to lend Aurora and yourself a hand throughout the months. Evenly matched, you and Aurora find yourself at odds as often as you find yourself on the same wavelength while planning everything from the nursery to the delivery. The one thing you can both agree on is you’re both going to love this baby with everything you’ve got, even if you can’t decide if it should be elephant or zebra decals on the walls.
Elijah : Excited beyond measure, he spends a good part of the nine months deciding which superheroes to first introduce your little hero to. No matter how many times you say the baby won’t understand anything about them, he always responds that it’s never too young to start. And honestly, you don’t have an argument against that. Besides, the idea of seeing him cradle your child while reading him a Spider-Man comic instead of Green Eggs and Ham is just too cute.

Notes :
I saw these type/format of posts a while back and was instantly intrigued by them. I saw the format first used by aelin-and-feyre for their Preferences series and I’ve seen it sporadically used by other fandoms over the years. After being fascinated by the format for quite some time, but never daring enough to use it, I’ve decided to give it a try. I’m giving full and complete credit for the idea to the first person I saw use it (again, aelin-and-feyre), but it could have been started by someone else and I have no idea. Please don’t think I’m trying to plagiarize an idea! This is all for fun and humor.
This post is solely regarding characters featured in the Open Heart series, found in the Choices app produced by Pixelberry. All characters belong to them. Though in OH, the MC is gender customizable, these prompts were written with a CIS female in mind (and not necessarily the same MC from the game at all).
