Cage learns strength and discipline and it really seems like they are the ones with the fate of the world in their hands. It feels like, if they die, that’s it. It’s the ultimate tragedy. Nothing can exist past that. They are everything, and that—is depressing. Very high stakes, but as a way to view the world, it’s so full of despair. Nothing can mean anything if they fail, their deaths won’t means anything if they fail. And that made me think—how necessary it actually is to believe there IS something more than you controlling your fate.

And it turns out the aliens are controlling it more beyond them. The aliens already know. The aliens rig the game against them.

EXCEPT there’s something bigger than the aliens too. Something bigger than them or the aliens making the story. And it means after they beat the aliens and die, that *lasts* beyond them, AND sweeps them up in it so that impossibly, they get a second chance!! It’s possible something bigger than them was making their fate and, it made it kind
