In honor of chapter 102 RAWs ripping all our collective hearts out, I decided to go back and reread some pride pair moments. Again this is very stream of consciousness and just written as i think about it much like everything i post but… Y’all. I just… I feel for Tetsu so much
Like… No wonder Tetsu looked so devastated when the truth came out about his contract with Hugh. Hugh was probably one of, if not the, first people to genuinely praise Tetsu for his straightforward way of thinking and to not admonish him for waiting for directions from someone he feels knows better than he does instead of acting on his own. Everyone is always so focused on how their friendship benefits Misono that no one thinks about what it does for Tetsu.
Time and time again, we’ve been shown through their scenes together that Tetsu defers to Misono not because he’s older, but because he feels like Misono will know what to do when he doesn’t. When Hugh disappeared in the hotel during Greed arc and Misono was panicking, Tetsu catches his attention by saying “Tell me what to do”. At first glance, this seems like something that was done to help calm Misono and refocus his nervous energy. Looking deeper, however, without Hugh there, Tetsu probably felt lost and was looking for guidance.
During early C3 arc, we see Tetsu not planning a way to meet up with Sloth pair like Lawless and Misono did, but instead working out using the furniture in the room provided. He doesn’t even think to ask for real weights, instead using what is already readily available to him. He’s doing his best to remain ready for when one of the others think of something to get them all out.
Tetsu is a follower, not a leader, and Hugh praised this as a good quality he should be proud of time and time again. Hugh made Tetsu feel special. Hugh, who Tetsu views as smart, capable, and always having the right answers, would tell Tetsu again and again that he was the ideal Eve for Pride, that he had high quality blood, and that he was perfect as he was. Hugh would even praise Tetsu when talking to others about him, and all of these things must have made Tetsu feel good about himself where normally he probably felt like he took up too much space, was too slow a thinker, or wasn’t good enough in any number of ways.
To suddenly discover that this relationship that was so important to you never really existed and to hear that it was all just an act for the purpose of manipulation, that none of the praise Hugh gave him was sincere, would shatter his entire worldview and be deeply, emotionally, painful in a way I can’t even comprehend.
I am deeply relieved to find out that Hugh does care for Tetsu very, very much, enough so that he risked himself and whatever plan he’s concocted in order to get into contact with him to try and prevent Tetsu from dying. But Tetsu is also only 14. He’s not even out of middle school yet. He’s only a second year. This is gonna stay with him. I really hope he’s okay;;

Bradley Spot Sub Episode: Break Time
Tumblr media
Bradley: ...
Akira: Bradley, so you’re here. Oh sorry… did I interrupt you?
Bradley: Nah. I sensed ya anyway.
Akira: You’re thinking something?
Bradley: I guess, may or may not…
Akira: How rare for you being uncertain.
Bradley: Haha! Ya could tell.
This place is kinda like my mana area. So I was just doing some meditation…
Akira: Meditation? You do that Bradley?
Bradley: Is it that weird? Most wizards do it ya know.
But well, this place is full of memories to me. Kinda impossible to stay focused.
Say something. I’ll be perfectly fine with that. Tell me about yer world or stuff.
Akira: Okay then. I have one funny story here.
Bradley: Cool! If it cannot make me laugh I’ll turn ya into an ice cube.

Mahoyaku Translation: Bradley N Card Story
Tumblr media
INTRODUCTION
Wizard from the North, Bradley.
Tsk… Still have anything? What else do ya wanna ask?
Ah? Ofcourse I didn’t become the Sage’s wizard willingly.
I took the job because I was told that I could get out of prison by fulfilling my duty, but I was once the leader of the strongest bandit gang in the history ya know?
What do ya mean by “feeling too sad” so there was no choice for me other than working hard? Sounds gross…
But well, ya could say being locked up was such perfect time to release all the anger I’ve restrained.
I did get outside, finally, however “thanks to” those two geezers I could not rampage until the Great Calamity came…
One day I will freaking kill all of those bastards who sent me to jail!
Oh, seems like mealtime’s coming. Though I hate being hungry, the feeling of the food becoming much more delicious than usual is not so bad.
Meals which were made by Nero from Eastern Country are the tastiest among every meal, so they’ve been my fav for quite long time!
Ah? What now? Just so ya know if yer slow-moving like that, I will eat all yer food too.
