Yuna Shiraiwa successfully lands triple-triple combinations “I’m moving in a good direction”.
Figure skater Yuna Shiraiwa participated in an media-open practice at Kansai University Ice Arena, in Takatsuki City, Osaka, on 30/8.
In practice, she pulled off the highly-technical 3Lutz-3Loop combination several times. “Now that the state of my jumps are good, my feelings for skating moved to a good direction. I can now say that ‘skating is fun!’” She said with a smile.
Last year, struggling with back pain, she finished 5th in the Junior World Championships. In practice, jumps were often restricted. Now, with uneasiness completely away, the prospect of a 3Lz-3Lo combo is bright. “I might put it in the 2nd half of my free.”
“My biggest goal is to compete in the Winter Olympic Games. If it’s my abilities right now, I definitely can’t go. But I want to work on it & put efforts into being complete for December’s All-Japan Championships”.
“I’m looking forward to how I can develop.”
Yuna’s putting expectations on herself as she moves forward one step at a time for winter.

“I’m honored to come back and skate at the rink where I skated after the Great East Japan Earthquake and received lots of cheering from lots of people. It’s my turn to give back to the children of Kanagawa through my performance.”

Wakaba Higuchi performs short program for the first time, shows artistry acquired from learning ballet theatre.
Wakaba Higuchi, aiming to participate in the 2018 Pyeong Chang Olympics next february, skated her SP for the first time at Kanto Summer Trophy, held in Chiba on August 5th.
Set to “Gypsy dance”, from the ballet music of “Don Quixote”, she expressed finesse in the beginning of the program, and towards the end expressed joy in the step sequence. The light-hearted step sequence got audiences to clap along.
“I was nervous. I thought that I shouldn’t mess up the jumps.” Her triple-triple combination went off on timing, but Higuchi said: “Aside from the jumps, it went better than it was in practice. I could skate feeling comfortable.”
Trying to make the SP song her own, Higuchi watched the ballet last autumn. Now, she’s still watching the movie to escalate images from it.
Her score was 62.39. Watching her response to the score of her first competition this season, Higuchi said: “I would like to see a lot of gliding for the SP. I want to practice a lot and make this a better program.”
