Itaewon, Seoul | Korea
Spent another whole day in Itaewon just walking around and getting lost, exploring the area with no specific destination to get to. This is probably one of my favourite things to do because you get to come across so many things that you’d never think you’d find. Kayla and I walked through a whole street filled with amazing art murals on the walls and shutters of shops, cafes and peaceful neighbourhood areas surrounded by really cool antique and vintage shops selling the most intricate and ornate decorations I have ever seen.
We took a break at a pretty cafe we came across called K212, which was actually a WannaOne (popular korean boy group) themed cafe because it was a place situated right under the studio they practise at (apparently they visit the cafe frequently too). Apart from WannaOne memorabilia, the cafe was adorned with the prettiest flowers with edison lights hanging from the ceiling and chill Korean RnB playing in the background. It also took us a while to realise that the whole time we were there, the owner of the cafe (we assumed initially); a known Korean profile, Tae Jin-ah was there too! We were totally astonished because we missed a huge hint, which was the carbon-copy doll modelled just like him that stood right at the entrance! Apparently he was more popular in the older days for being a singer and an entertainer.. a missed opportunity to take photos with a Korean celeb!
Itaewon is full of hidden gems just waiting to be discovered, given that anyone who wants to find them is willing to. Our reward after walking around mindlessly for hours was watching the sunset with the entire view of Itaewon from the top of a rooftop bar (yet again another marvellous chance find because we were hungry and the store front looked cool). The best moments are always unexpected.
