"The first published picture of me. It was on a cover for "Family Circle Magazine" (at the time was given away for free). The lamb I was holding had to die-- it was a twin and the mother wouldn't nurse it. It seems a sheep only wants one kid at a time. So I had ambivalent feelings, as you can see. My face looks alittle distorted-- half smiling, and half sad."
-Marilyn
From: "Monroe Talks About Herself," 1960.
The first photo was on the cover of "Family Circle Magazine" in April of 1946.

A rarely seen or mentioned dress of Marilyn's that is absolutely exquisite in shape and detail, and one she was happy to wear alongside future-husband Joe Dimaggio at a party hosted by Bob Hope and his wife, in late 1953.

1961 / Maf Honey / Name of the white poodle offered to Marilyn by Pat Newcomb (her press agent); she would have acquired the dog through Natalie Wood, for whom she also worked with and whose mother raised poodles. At 5th Helena Drive (Marilyn's last and only house), he had his own room and slept on an old beaver coat, which Arthur Miller had given to Marilyn. After Marilyn's death, he was taken in by Gloria Lovell, Frank Sinatra's secretary. 💙

On this day in 1962, Marilyn Monroe's passing was announced. Like many, Sam was devastated by the news. He did not want to publish his photographs of Marilyn for a long time afterwards. In 1979, Sam finally released his first Marilyn book titled: "The Joy of Marilyn." The title says it all. And that's how Sam always remembered his beautiful friend.

“I see myself forever and ever as the ridiculous person, the lonely soul, the wanderer, the restless frustrated artist, the person in love with love, always in search of the absolute, always seeking the unattainable.”

WONDER BAR (1934) | dir. Lloyd Bacon
“The other [scene that stands out above the rest] involved a handsome man, asking a dancing couple if he could cut in. The female partner, expecting his attention, agrees, only to see him dance with her male partner. Jolson then flaps his wrist and says, “Boys will be boys. Woo!”. This scene almost caused the Production Code to reject the film, and was featured in the opening scenes of the documentary film The Celluloid Closet (1996).”

Helen Mirren, 1967.
Tumblr media
Today, Dame Helen Mirren is known as a respected Shakespearean actress, one who cut her teeth in the Royal Shakespeare Company and has continued to act in stage productions by the Bard and other revered playwrights throughout her career. And they don't let just anyone play the sitting Queen of England, which she's done twice (she's also portrayed Queens Elizabeth I and Charlotte). But everyone starts out young, don't they? In the 1960s, while doing her Shakespearean thing, Mirren was also a budding sex symbol, flaunting her figure in such films as Age of Consent (1969), Savage Messiah (1972) and Caligula (1979). Mirren's tendency to get sexy -- if not naked -- on screen was so well known that in 2015 she announced she was officially retiring from nude scenes. She was 70.
