Description: One trap during a mission was all it took for the headquaters to become dark ang glum and for you to become the number one gliding champion of Mondstadt. But grieving is a slow process and everyone has their own way of doing it and that’s preciesly why you became the very outrider Amber wished to be, haunted by all the memories of her.

this is just a little something I decided to write because Amber is underappreciated 

it was inspired by Amber’s voiceline

„Outrider Amber, reporting!“ now a distant echo in the hallways of the headquarters of the Knights of Favonius.

Strange, was it always this dim here?

Your uniform boots were the only thing accompanying the haunting echoes. Together they were mixing into a beautiful melody, taking you back to all the moments you two spent together.

From dining at Good Hunter to scouting and clearing out hillichurl camps. But the fondest memory you carry must be all the gliding championships you two participated in.

Once upon a time, while you were still gliding with her, you felt the winds of freedom lift you above the clouds, accompanied by the merry laughter.

But the storms that once made you soar the sky are now holding you down, suffocating you and bringing back that disgusting smell of blood that still clings to your clothes and hides under your nails.

That day when you last heard those words was the day the gliding champion got swallowed by the very freedom who’s name she flew below and above.

Standing atop the cathedral roof, you spread your fake wings and took a step forward, ready to become the number one gliding champion in Mondstadt.

That was the first step, one of the many that you yet have to gather the courage to make, but it was a progress and by the sad smile Eula was giving you, it was a good start.

So slowly you started locking the memories of her smile, of her laughter, of her bad cooking skills, of her everything into your heart.

But the seasons have changed and the time has passed, flaunting its freedom.

In fact, seasons had so much freedom and flow that they changed for dozens of times already. The weather became so much harsher, not holding back on slowly eating away everything in its path. But the memories still stayed locked and protected.

You don’t dare count just how much days were lost to radio silence from the knights and citizens. If you had to guess, you would say at least three long years have passed. And with so much time on your hands, you finally finished the outrider uniforms Amber created a vision of in her head all those years ago.

After finally adding last touches to both uniforms, you climbed the stairs to the cathedral. The static in your ears got louder with each step closer to the graveyard. You closed your eyes and hoped that it would go away, cursing yourself for locking away the bad memories of the day of her fall as well.

It was a cloudy day and the outriders made their way to the suspicious camp in the middle of the forest. But even after repeating the process of clearing so many out, neither could be prepared for the pyro abyss mage and the damned exploding barrels laying in wait. And just like that, there was a flash and then the static ringing in your ears, the salty taste of metal on your tongue, a blurred vision of a red lump on the ground in front of you and the wretched smell of blood in your nose.

Just like that, the once cloudy day turned into a full-on storm as you were holding the body of your fallen partner, the mage and hillchurls disintegrated into nothingness by the time other knights came, and the last breath long wasted.

Taking in a deep breath, you felt that smell of dried blood before the smell of the signature Outrider’s Champion Steak! before you opened your eyes in front of her grave.

There was no need to exchange any more words, your tears once again staining the clothes of the amber-eyed girl, just as they did many years ago from various reasons.

You placed the neatly folded uniform on her grave alongside the gliding champion badge and a Baron Bunny. This was the last offering you had to make before you could take the final step and do just what she did.

One more era of outriders has come to an end, but a new one was starting in the same moment.

Pushing the doors to Jean’s office where she, Eula, Lisa, Traveler, Paimon and Kaeya awaited you, just as you asked them in your letter that you sent earlier that week.

You stood in a perfect stance, your uniform clean and your outrider badge shining. The words that next left your mouth after silence for so long shocked all six attendants, but by the comforting smiles they gave you, you understood that this was a step that was bound to be made, no matter how pitiful it may’ve been.

There stood an outrider, saluting in the office, their words a new echo in the once again bright hallways of the headquarters: “Outrider Y/n, reporting!”

you're fair, reliable and disciplined.

you know when you're listening to a song for possibly the thousandth time and just then, you notice a subtle bassline or a very soft repetitive tune tucked right underneath? and then every time you listen to it it seems to get louder and fuller until the song sounds like somewhat of a more defined, deeper version of what you already loved before? i think that's you. every time people look at you there's more to see, as if you're forever blossoming, developing, growing. you're safety yet you're exciting. you're steadfast yet ever-changing. you're a beautiful person and however calm or sad or unexciting you might feel, you're so easy to return to again and again because you're so difficult to forget. i hope you don't experience a feeling of being used for it, but rather treasured. it's hard to come by people with your heart.

POST PLUS IS COMING, WHETHER YOU WANT IT OR NOT!

Despite the fancy survey, changes to the UI and TOS reveal we’re getting the service in the future whether we want it or not. Obviously, Post+ is a terrible idea that is trying to bank revenue on user content. Unlike patreon or onlyfans, tumblr’s primary focus is on FAN content. The legality of this is NOT in the users favor and as the new tumblr TOS states, said users will be entirely liable for whatever legal matters arise.

SO WHAT ARE WE DOING?

Besides filling out the survey, it’s time to show tumblr we mean business and show our displeasure by hitting them where it hurts.

Ad revenue.

We’re proposing a 24 hour log off as phase one of this protest.

In light of the recent PostPlus nonsense tumblr is trying to pull, here's a reminder that monetization of fanfiction can lead you to legal trouble. On Ao3 it's against the TOS to even mention any money-sending site at all because of the conditonal protection they offer.

Putting your entire fanfiction blog behind a paywall is like pointing a neon sign saying "please sue me". I bring this up specifically because tumblr mentioned fanfiction in the post that they made and that is going to leave a lot of people misinformed.

Remember: Do NOT paywall your fanworks.

And rest assured, my blog will never be pay-to-read, even if this weren't a fanfiction blog. I think the whole thing is ridiculous.

Please please please refrain from paywalling any sort of fanfic. The lack of monetary gain from fanfiction is one of the core reasons we are legally allowed to create/share/read it.

Fair Use doesn't entirely hinge on whether or not we are earning money, but it is one of the biggest factors a court will consider.

The OTW (company responsible for our ability to legally create fanfic; also owns Ao3) already does so much for us legally, and we absolutely do not need to make their job any harder.

I think the thing that worries me so much about this tumblr plus bullshit isn’t the fact that creators can put their stuff behind a pay wall - for everyday regular bloggers that’s fine! Do what you want I guess.

But fanfiction writers CANNOT do this. Point blank PERIOD!

And some might say “oh but Aeryn it’s a choice! You don’t have to do it!” And, yes I KNOW this. I know it’s a choice. But younger fanfic creators out there may not be aware of the absolute shit show that went down several years ago where people SUED fanfiction writers over their work. And that is dangerous for many reasons.

These companies that own the characters we love do. Not. Care. About us. They will sue us the second some fanfic creator unwittingly uses this paywall to gain money from their fanfiction works. That is illegal. You CANNOT do that. You cannot gain money from fanfiction Bc technically it isn’t yours. The characters and the worlds are not ours and if just one of us gets caught doing it tumblr will get sued and we all know they don’t have the money to fight them and tumblr will go poof.

This post isn’t meant to be rude or demeaning or condescending. I am just genuinely so so worried about this because if it takes off, tumblr as a fandom space is as good as gone. And as much as I call this place a “hell site” I do love it. I love the community I’ve built here and the friends I’ve made and I don’t want to lose it because of the IDIOTS at yahoo want more money.

*sigh* so - please complain to tumblr about this and hope to god it doesn’t actually happen. For all fanfic writers sake.

Tumblr Post+ and how to prevent it

Plenty of people here, myself included, don't want Post+. It's a paid subscription and will cause a lot (more) problems on this site.

What does it do?

- Allows blogs to create paid subscriptions that followers have to pay to see blog content. This can cause a lot of problems, as plenty of people come to Tumblr since it has never been a monetizable website.

- You can't block people who "support" your blog, meaning people can bypass the blocking system to harass blogs, just at a price.

- Creators have other outlets for these services, like Patreon.

- Again, nobody wants to pay for Tumblr posts.

Now, how can you help stop this?

By filling out Tumblr's Post+ survey! This allows you to give feedback about the Post+ system and what you would/wouldn't do. You can use this to directly inform Tumblr that you DO NOT want the "Post+" feature. If anyone has anything to add to this (info, updates, etc) I encourage you to! Keep resources current!

My Writing Opinions That No One Asked But I’ll Still Write

Said is not dead.

Brown eyes are magical.

There’s a right time to show and tell.

Adverbs don’t ‘kill’ your writing if used sparingly. 

Obsession with originality is not always good.

Using the overused trope doesn’t always end up bad.

Being proud of your writing is not conceited.

Reading/writing fanfiction is not a waste of time.

Writers don’t necessarily need to write every day.

Writing isn’t about the depth of words to the point of incoherence.

You can write a self-indulgent fic.

You don’t always need to share your writing or make a WIP intro if you don’t feel like it.

The attention your story gets doesn’t always define your ability as a writer.

Don’t be anxious about the word count.

Success and progress look different to each of us.

You CAN write it if you believe you can.

Writing breaks are not okay, they are GREAT. Please drink water and get some sleep.

Whoever said that real writers don’t take vacations, no [insert heart emoji]

You think you don’t make any progress today? Daydreaming your characters’ reference counts.

Using tags guide readers and doesn’t always need to be cut off.

Filler words can be used in character dialogues as a characterization.

Not all your characters have your voice. Some use filler words, intellectually fluent, and stammers a lot.

Promoting writing diversity is as important as being comfortable with what you’re writing.

If you take someone’s hurtful criticism seriously and started having a notion to stop, you are not writing for yourself.

Remember the joy of writing and consider getting feedbacks as the cherry on top.

In writing historical fiction, being critical about what is “historically accurate” doesn’t always end well.

DON’T throw away or delete the drafts you hate, THAT thing you hate now can help you for future references.

Writing motivations encourage writers, it’s not a cue to find time to procrastinate and abandon what you think is important.

Some ideas deserve a solid host.

DON’T compare your writing to someone else’s and belittle yours or theirs. Those words underwent different processes.

It’s NEVER too late for you. It doesn’t matter if you start writing early or late or if you’re not published yet, what important is the stories you have to tell.

You can grow silently. 

Self-appreciation is necessary. Rewarding yourself is good.

Lastly, write what you love and don’t give a shit when someone is trying to bring you down.
