House Things #3
The houses as quotes from classic literature. These aren’t meant to be direct representations of each house, but more literary quotes that I think will speak to something the soul of each of the different houses.
Slytherin: “We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep.” -The Tempest
Hufflepuff: “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest I go to than I have ever known.” -A Tale of Two Cities
Gryffindor: “In his deepest heart there surge tremendous shame and madness mixed with sorrow and love whipped on by frenzy and a courage aware of its own worth.” -The Aeneid
Ravenclaw: “You are a wonderful creation. You know more than you think you know, just as you know less than you want to know.” -The Picture of Dorian Gray

Elements
James was like air. Light, and fluid, suave, and as vital as the oxygen in your lungs. He was playful and lighthearted, often teasing and mischievous. He could fit in easily, flowing around people and flitting from group to group. He was the one who rolled with the punches, the one who was breezy and go-as-you-please. But when a storm was coming, you knew. The playful breezes could easily change into gales that would snatch the breath from your mouth. As gentle and harmless as he seemed most days, you had to be wary- a gentle wind could turn into a tornado that destroyed everything in it’s path.
Sirius was fire. He was the warmth, the light, the heat, the passion. He was comfortable and familiar. He needed James like he needed to breathe. He was casual touches and cozy evenings. His energy kept the chill at bay on the cold days and let up the darkest nights. He had the quickest temper and the hottest remarks, the worst impulse control and the most passion. He burned quick and bright, and when he burned, he could raze entire forests and leave nothing but ash in his wake. A comfortable warmth could quickly become a burn.
Remus was water. On the surface, he seemed still, simple. He could put out Sirius’ flames easier than anyone else could, prevent them from starting, even. He seemed removed, calm, serene. And he was far deeper than it appeared at surface level. It was easy for him to drown in himself. His depths were dark and dangerous, and he didn’t like anybody to see them. When the storms came, his waves swelled high and tall and furious, and they took no prisoners. Tornadoes could be weathered. Fires could be put out. But no one was stupid enough to swim in a raging sea.
Peter was earth. Solid, dependable. Remus’ storms could scarcely shake him, and James’ tornadoes and Sirius’ fires could do little to get rid of him. He was the constant, the one who did not storm or burn. He was unchanging, ever the same old Peter. Except he wasn’t. He changed very slowly, and once he had changed, there was no going back. And his earthquakes shook the very foundations of their world.

Golden Trio Headcannon #1
We've all heard the theory that each of the Golden Trio could have been in a different house. But I want to argue that they could have all been in Slytherin.
Harry is somewhat obvious - I mean, it's explicitly pointed out in the books that he could have been Slytherin. And it could be argued that was due to the Voldemort- soul thing, but roll with me here.
Next, there's Hermione. We tend to see her as an almost Ravenclaw, but I would argue that a lot of the qualities we deem to be Ravenclaw about her are also Slytherin. She's determined to be the best at everything, and works hard to be so- top of her class, brightest witch of her age, all that jazz. She's cunning- polyjuice potion? Reeta Skeeter plot? The way she fools Umbridge at the end of book five? I would call all those plots cunning as heck. She's 100% willing to break the rules to reach her goals, ehich i would say is a Slytherin quality. Recently, I've seen a lot of posts talking about how ruthless she is, which I think also point towards potential Slytherin-ness.
And then, there's Ron. Ron, who's amazing at Wizard's chess, a game of strategy and cunning moves. Ron, who's deepest desire is to move out of his brother's shadows and be as good, if not better than, them. Ron, who is deeply loyal and exactly the kind of "real friend" the sorting hat sings about. Ron, who may not be that smart but is certainly a competent and resourceful wizard. Ron, who comes from a long line of purebloods, even if they are blood traitors.
All three of them could have been Slytherins. Fight me about it.

Marauder's Headcannon #17
We all know Tonk's patronus changed to match Remus'.
Remus' changed to match hers, too.
He didn't realize at first, of course- he intentionally cast a non-corporeal patronus (because yet another reminder of what he was was just too much for him to take, most days). In fact, it wasn't until after they were married, after she was pregnant, after he tried to leave that he realised.
He was on an Order mission, and he ended up tangling with a hoard of dementors. A non-corporeal patronus wouldn't be strong enough to fend them off. So he cast a full-strength patronus, and to his surprise it was not a massive, silvery beast that erupted from his wand, but something much smaller, and much faster. It wasn't until it had chased the dementors away that it was still enough for Remus to see what it was.
A jackrabbit.
A jackrabbit that winked at him. He only knew one person who's patronus was a jackrabbit, who winked like that, who he loved.
When he arrived home, Nymphadora was pretending to be asleep. He didn't blame her- he had ruined everything. She hadn't left him for it (she wasn't a coward, unlike somebody he knew) but she was angry.
He shook her awake. She needed to see. She needed to know. He needed her to know.
She protested ("Remus, I am trying to sleep, so help me-") but he made her open her eyes, made her sit up and look. And then, he cast the spell. And there was that jackrabbit again.
She was so quiet, he thought she was angry. He opened his mouth to say something, anything-
She kissed him. And that was when things started to be okay again.

Why I Like Morality-pet Remus: An Essay (not really)
I’ve seen a lot of people talking about different headcanons for Remus, who happens to be my favorite of the Marauders by the way. One complaint I see a lot is that he’s made too much of a rule-following morality pet by fanfiction writers and popular headcanons. And I get it- obviously, a teenage Remus would not always be a level-headed rule follower.
But I really love this headcanon of Remus because it fits with a lot of my headcanons about things that have formed his character. I mean, think about it- he’s a registered werewolf. And one of my major headcanons is that the registry comes with a sort of code-of-conduct for werewolves (something that is semi-confirmed by pottermore, just not in the way I headcanon it). Which means that, from a very young age, Remus would have had to understand that there are rules and consequences for breaking them, which would help explain why he’d be more mindful of said rules.
So yeah, I 100% love and support rule-following morality-pet Remus Lupin. Okay. Cool. Bye.

Marauders Headcanon #16 (Part 2)
-In sixth-year DADA, when Remus faced his boggart for the first time, it had nothing to do with the moon. In fact, he instead saw James, Sirius, and Peter jeering at him. Remus cast riddikulus easily, and he found himself in the picture, laughing with his friends. While he seemed to handle that boggart with ease, the feeling of isolation that it brought hung over him like a dark cloud for weeks.
-Remus faced his boggart for the second time shortly after seventh year, when one settled into his father’s wardrobe. He and the other marauders had just been invited to join the Order, and this time he saw Sirius’ body, eagle-splayed on the floor. He tried to use riddikulus, and it was replaced by Peter’s, then then Lily’s, then James’. When Remus finally managed to cast the charm properly, James’ body sat up, laughing at having tricked everyone into thinking him dead.
-The third time was after the Potters had gone into hiding. This time, Remus was faced with himself, branded with a dark mark, having betrayed his best friends. Remus didn’t know how to make that funny, and he had to get Peter to come banish the boggart for him.
-It wasn’t until after the Potters were dead, Peter, was dead, and Sirius was in azkaban, not until Remus had lost everything he was afraid of loosing, that his boggart became the moon.

People forget that Hannah knows just as much about loss as Neville does.
Being pulled from class so she could be told that her mother had been murdered by Death Eaters. Spending the rest of the school year with her family, in mourning and afraid that they still might be targeted. She had the choice not to return to Hogwarts, she had more reason than most and no one would have thought less of her if she hadn’t.
And yet Hannah chose to come back, she chose to defend the younger students, to rejoin the D.A. and stand up to the terrors happening within her school. She was taught by Death Eaters who more than likely celebrated her mother’s death, if not actively participated in it. Along with Neville and Seamus and Ginny she was part of the resistance, doing what she could to hinder the Carrows and to impede Snape, knowing if she were caught there would be no mercy.
She was at the Battle of Hogwarts, fighting alongside those she cared about, dodging curses and taking on Death Eaters. How many times did she wonder if the Death Eater she was facing killed her mother? And knowing that how could she not fight? How could she not do everything within her power to stop anyone else from knowing the loss of a parent to hate and violence?
Hannah found the strength within herself to fight back the only way she could. She refused to cower or let her loss keep her from doing what was right.

Marauder’s Headcanon #16 (part 1)
-The first time Sirius met a boggart, he was eight and he was helping Regulus and Kreacher clean out the attic. He opened an old, dusty trunk that likely hadn’t seen the light of day for generations, and out stepped his mother. Sirius didn’t understand what was going on, because he had just seen her downstairs with his father, and why would she be hiding in a trunk, anyways? She bore down on him and Regulus, and when Regulus screamed for someone to make it stop, Kreacher took it as an order. Sirius didn’t understand that afternoon until years later, when they learned about boggarts in third year DADA.
-It wasn’t until their sixth year, in post-OWL DADA, that Sirius faced a boggart again. This time, he was faced not with his mother, but with his little brother. Sirius and Regulus looked so similar that most people couldn’t tell them apart, so when a young, grey-eyed boy with rumpled hair and haunted eyes appeared holding out a dark-marked arm, everyone in the room thought Sirius was afraid of joining Voldemort. In reality, he was petrified that he was already loosing his little brother. No one else saw the bruises on boggart-Regulus’ face and throat. He couldn’t manage to cast the boggart-banishing charm; after all, what could make his abused, scared, haunted little brother’s face funny?
-Sirius ran into a boggart again shortly after graduating while on an Order mission. This time, he was met with the bodies of his friends, and blood. So much blood. Peter and Remus and James, all dying, moaning, crying out to him for help. Sirius again couldn’t manage the spell- he was too busy starring at James’ glassy eyes.
-Sirius didn’t have to face a boggart again until after azkaban, during the events of GOF. This time, he saw Harry, all that he had left of his best friend, bleeding out. Sirius still couldn’t best the boggart- after a lifetime of living in fear, he simply didn’t know how to banish it.
