i hope that the discussion about student protests does not get reduced to "privileged rich kids faffing around at an ivy league school." setting aside that tenuous claim, over the last week, protests have erupted over the entire country. a few days ago, riot police beat, pepper-sprayed, and arrested NYU faculty shielding students; protests started at the university of southern california when the admin cancelled the valedictorian's speech; encampments appeared at the university of southern carolina, UT dallas, the university of maryland, the university of new mexico, IUPUI, virginia tech, the university of virginia, the university of illinois, the university of north carolina — chapel hill, the university of pittsburgh, uc berkeley, the university of michigan — ann arbor, MIT, emerson, tufts, the university of rochester, rice, swarthmore, the new school, vanderbilt university, with students arrested; students protested or walked out at miami university, northwestern, temple, the 5 claremont colleges: pomona, pitzer, scripps, harvey mudd, and claremont mckenna, stanford, washington university in st louis, students were arrested at ohio state, students were confronted by riot police at cal poly humboldt, after which they occupied campus, students were arrested at the university of minnesota — twin cities, after which faculty walked out; and yes, there are protests at the other ivies, most notably yale, with students facing mass arests after encampments, but there is also an encampment at brown, protests appeared at cornell, princeton faculty issued a statement of solidarity while students are preparing an encampment, and harvard banned the undergraduate palestine solidarity committee. there are thousands of students who are protesting for palestine across the entire country, facing harassment, arrest, and suspension in return

i love the…. almost horror aspects of this album. all the references to ghosts and death…. and sonically, the unexpected shrieking in WAOLOM and the banging and screaming during “old habits die screaming” and even the way the tension subtly builds across the sixteen tracks and by the end you’re so stressed and shaken it’s like! losing your sense of self and feeling like you’ve become a monster is horror. and i’m sooooo glad she leaned into it

#ttpd #i think that part of why i like this album is that....like...i do know how it feels to retreat into the gothic #especially when the world is a terrifying place #the feeling of everything being confusing and being surrounded by monsters and feeling like a monster #and a subject for speculation and gossip #being a perpetual Other for some reason -- fame; sex; gender #you're simultaneously a site for alterity and also subjected to a fear of the Other #but also feeling a kinship with the Other on the same basis (ENJOYING the alien abducting you from the real world; disassociating from #your own time) #anyway there are a lot of horror and gothic elements in this album that make me really warm to it #the horror story that is Taylor Swift -- as this massive artificial entity and also as a human being who is caught up in that artificiality

As a kid, when your parents are poor, you're poor. If they don't have money, that means none of you have money. But if someone's parents are rich, that doesn't necessarily mean the kid is. Sometimes rich peoples' kids aren't rich kids, they're just some rich freak's exotic pets that can talk but aren't allowed to.

Starstruck. By this woman #She's confident. She's powerful. And she's an easy way to getting to the bottom of the Absolute #the thing is that...Lolth doesn't have much tolerance for traitors #and Malla IS Lolth's own arrow #but she couldn't do it #and as time went on realized that the sex had meant more to her than a fling #she was eager to reunite with Minthara at Moonrise #and the rest was history #Kitrye....fell in love with Raphael's ability to see through her #he kept her company #made her laugh #they could talk about music and art together while he flirted with her #all the while feeling conflicted by how much she was drawn to him #as time went on she also realized that the two of them had a lot more in common -- both of them having an abusive parent following #the death of their other parent #but at the end of the day the main appeal of Raphael for Kitrye is that she's someone who DESPERATELY needs love even if she can't admit it #who is DESPERATELY touch starved and love starved #and Raphael is someone whose line between obsession and love is non-existent and who is TERRIFIED of being abandoned #he'll love her forever. and she'll let him. #they're mutually obsessed with one another in a way that works for both of them #and he'll protect her from Lolth. she'll protect him from anyone who tries to harm him -- even Asmodeus #Ana/Wyll was...both of them have similar backgrounds -- Wyll's story is what Ana's MIGHT HAVE BEEN if Kitrye had died in childbed #they both have a love of the arts and music #but more than anything else I think that Ana is just...drawn to how GOOD Wyll is #after the thing with Astarion went badly she really needed someone who treated her like she was a princess #and Wyll does that
