As I stand on the last day of the year, I would like to share a summary of this year with my network since it was an eye opener for me. Strangely enough, it put everything in perspective. I became acutely aware of the fact that all goals, dreams, achievements and accomplishments are relative. Having learnt that, I have ever since been acutely aware of the balance between the professional and the personal life. Here are my key take aways in 2022: 1. Health and well- being (both physical and mental) are essential and non negotiable. It motivates me to take time out for some kind of physical activity or meditation at least every alternate day. 🧘🏼‍♂️ 2. Take time out for one act of kindness everyday without expecting anything in return. It can be as small as helping someone with some information or lending an ear to someone in anguish, but no act of kindness is too small.👂🏼 3. As important it is to succeed in your endeavours, it is more important to build long lasting relationships on and off work that transcend the transactional. I owe my sanity in this year to few such gems in my life.🫶🏼 Last but not the least, I am super grateful to all those in my circle who made this difficult year worthwhile for me and you words of encouragement throughout 2022. Its December and it's cold outside. But, you know what's not cold? Time to reflect. Too often, the stress and busyness of the season make it difficult to find time to just sit and reflect. Here we go: During an assignment for @novartis_ch Novartis in Zambia, I've covered the daily life of healthcare workers from peripheral health facilities incl. a prison health centre. • Imagine what’s hidden behind the walls of Rural Health Facilities and prisons or the fight to see inside. • Imagine traveling by walking over 16km to the nearest care (three hours for a healthy adult). At eight months pregnant, women begin their walking journey to the nearest health facility as the one I've visited in the Mansa District, Luapula Provence to stay there until they deliver their baby. Beds consisting of a bare springs with an old mat and blankets on top, it’s crazy to think that this is what women get to sleep on straight after labour; sharp contrast to the modern, contemporary rooms in the western world. • EXIT • I shot this coal-worker, suffering from cancer, in a district #hospital while working on a project about post communistic #medical service in #Mongolia in March 2017. He was treated with conservative traditional medicine treatment to control pain and swelling. After the first treatment, his doctor reported pain was gone and noticed that the patient had more flexibility and motion to walk with assistance. The patient was treated again days later with the same cupping procedure. Within a week, he was able to walk without any aid. The current Mongolian #government considers traditional medicine to be an important component of a comprehensive medical service and recognise cupping therapy as a formal modality of treatment since years. Currently, medical practitioners are practicing cupping therapy for treating #hypertension, neck pain, headache, chronic #hepatitis, ophthalmic diseases, skin diseases and infectious diseases .
