So... there is some progress. I do turn off my phone most of the nights, but sometimes I like to read some comics or watch yt. But there is hope for the better. I am going to stay on course!
What helped me to put down my phone? Usually finding information on my own how badly it affects human life is a huge factor in convincing myself to change. And upgrading my sleep hygiene - taking some time for myself before sleep like skincare, book, ironing my clothes - generally anything that helps me calm down after the day; also I don't do so much naps as I usually do - I try to go bed tired (don't get me wrong - napping is good for your helath overall, but like with everything - in moderation); and lastly I walk during the day a lot - from work to home for example. In Poland we can get to anything on foot, we don't need a car in a city - I have buses or trams that could take me anywhere inside and outside the city. In USA I know from experience that without a car is extremely diffucult to get to anything. So my routine is evolving in agreement with the enviroment that surrounds me.
As for my other tasks - I am also working on staying consistent as a doctoral student. I should be reading a lot of articles, like 1-2 per day. I am horrible at that right now. I am thinking on how to trick myself into that habit. I'll write here if I find that loophole inside my mind.
P.S.
Please be mindful that I am a very privilged individual and I can focus on those aspects of my life. Some people are not as privilged to have time for this as for example they have a family or work multiple shifts. Don't feel a pressure to change anything in your life, if anyone is reading this. It's just a small project to keep myself in check and help my English writing skills.
Hello, this post launches my (short) diary of some sort. I will be updating with every next post about progress in changing my life habits.
For now I'll start with not sleeping with my phone for just one night. I do have a problem and look at my screen when I should be sleeping.
I will try to be consistent but I'll also give myself a little room to not be on my best behavior always. I hope posting will help me feel motivated.
Good luck to me!
P.S.
If anyone will be reading this - please remember that I'm still learning english as I am a native Polish speaker. Posting will be my practice.

In the wake of the whole james somerton fiasco and inspired by this post, I wanted to share a few of my um, soft signs, like, orange flags to detect when someone is bullshitting you.
First of all, I am on the spectrum which means 1) I tend to take what people say at face value and 2) I have a strong sense of justice which makes me prone to biases, all of which combined means I am at perpetual risk of swallowing the bullshit.
So, what to do about it? You turn on the critical thinking and pay attention.
As one of my favorite youtubers, Hannah Alonzo, likes to say: "consider the source, remember the motive". Who is talking to you?? What do you know about them?? What biases might they have?? How do they interact with your own biases?? Where are they talking from?? Is it anger?? happinness? boredom?? Also, why are they talking to you? Are they trying to sell you something?? Are they trying to convince you and why?? How do they go about the finantial motivation, if present? If you have, in this case, a white cis gay man talking to you as it he has it the worst of the worst in the world, there's probably some exaggeration and you should start to wonder. There's a good chance he's bullshitting you.
How they talk about women and POC No, no, stay with me. There's a rule I had back when I was dating men: Always beware of how they treat their mother. With the exception of extremes like mama's boys and cases of abuse, how a man treats the woman with whom they have that familial bond is a good indicator of how they are going to treat you. Do they berate her? speak ill of her? are aggressive or controlling? do they dismiss her opinions? Same with creators, and by god I tell you, specially cis male creators, queer or otherwise, always always beware of how they speak of women, how they treat women, how they treat POC. Somerton had a weird vendetta against straight women. It went mostly unnoticed. Then, he was dismissive towards lesbians and other queer women and it was once again overlooked. Then he went ahead and made sinophobic content about genres and cultures he knows NOTHING about. Again, it went unchecked. What I am telling you is IT'S NOT NORMAL. Contempt about women and non white-western cultures is not normal and if someone has them as them as an enemy or a scapegoat, they're probably bullshitting you. Take what they say and fact check it, see for yourself.
If at any point in a video or an essay you find yourself thinking "wait, really??" then it's time to fact check. Is it a bit suspicious?? is your logic telling you that's not quite how this works?? Then take to google, my friend, they might be bullshitting you. At worst, you dodge a fake fact, at best, you learn way too much about a topic you were already interested in.
Beware of the lack of nuance. I can not stress this enough. We all love monochrome, but life and societal issues are never black and white. It's just impossible, there's too many factors to consider. If you are being presented situations or anecdotes as absolute truths, you're probably being bullshitted. If it's too good to be true, it is. If it sounds waaay too convenient, it probably is. A good researcher, a serious investigator, will always have some nuance because they have done the work and checked the sources. If someone provides you 1) no nuance and 2) no sources, THEY'RE BULLSHITTING YOU.
These are the ones I can come up with just of the top of my head, I'm sure there's more and please, add them. Remember that naivité isn't a crime, I'm fairly naive and that's made me distrustful, and these are some of the techniques I've found that help me navigate through a world of information without losing myself.

It may not be the most artistic or high quality photo, but it is a photo of the greatest boy of all time - Rudy. This is his first official post on my Tumblr. And this is thanks to my Mother, who never disappoints. If I'm having a rough morning, I get a picture of Rudy. And magically I'm ready for the day - my motivation is to cuddle him next weekend. But for that I need money for the train, and I can't go home empty-handed either, I have to buy and remeber to take snacks with me. So that's a story how I am never late to work.
I am providing my dog with a decent life!

It was a delight to read that. You should write books, because with words You took me for a beautiful walk through a meadow I've never seen
I kept finding random apples in the woods last year and couldn’t locate the abandoned orchard, partly because the apples tumbled down the slope away from their tree and partly because it’s hard to locate anything in the vegetal chaos of late summer. Plus I’m not very well-acquainted with trees, and figured it’d be easier to identify them in the spring.
I had made a mental note that this unmistakable sinewy tree marked the place where random apples could be found, so I investigated the area today:
Tumblr media
I got a bit distracted by the moss boots the trees were wearing (the fashionable twigs wear moss skirts); they never fail to delight me.
Tumblr media
Some trees even camouflage themselves with adorable mossy giraffe spots:
Tumblr media
Still, no apple trees. I tried following a bee but we weren’t going the same way; her last stop was a forget-me-not. Then near a crumbled dry stone wall I found a surprisingly tidy area no larger than my hand, that looked as if a snail had fenced it then endeavoured to cultivate a little kitchen garden in the woods. Though I suppose any garden is a kitchen garden if you’re a snail.
Tumblr media
Beyond the old collapsed stone wall was a meadow with the greenest, softest, most edible-looking grass I’ve ever seen. Mouth-watering. It looks like it would taste like apple candy.
Tumblr media
From afar I could see nothing but hazel trees, but as I explored the meadow (it was long and narrow, kind of baguette-shaped), all of a sudden—
Tumblr media
oh!!!
Tumblr media
Here they are!! Definitely easier to identify in the spring!
Tumblr media
I’ve never met such an old, gnarled apple tree. No wonder I couldn’t find them before; I was looking for something slim and neat-looking because that’s how I picture apple trees.
Tumblr media
A pleasure meeting you! I will be back in September to forage forest apples…

Last week we had some celebrations in Poland. We celebrated Polish Flag Day among others. I still can see some flags flapping around town from people's balconies.
But this particular photo is from Sopot, 2021. I think it was the day of the Anniversary of Warsaw Uprising '44, that's why the flag.
And of course those plants on that balcony looking magnificent!
