my mom walked upstairs in her seal skin boots. Fjonka (my rabbit) came running to greet them (her seal skin boots). she sniffed them for a second. nuzzled them, before realizing they weren't breathing. horror dawned on her. she begun to understand she was dealing with something she couldn't comprehend. she backed off, without letting them out of her sight. she STOMPED to let them (the seal skin boots) know that she did NOT like this situation. my mom stomped back. Fjonka stomped harder, exhibiting a bravery and assertedness I had no idea she possessed. mom turned and went back down the stairs. Good job, Fjonk. You sure showed those undead vampire rabbits who's boss.

PSA: Don't use Open Office

I keep seeing people recommending Open Office as an alternative to Word, and uh... look, it is, technically, an open source alternative to Word. And it can do a lot of what Word can, genuinely! But it is also an abandoned project that hasn't been updated in nine years, and there's an active fork of it which is still receiving updates, and that fork is called LibreOffice, and it's fantastic.

Seriously, if you think that your choices are either "grit your teeth and pay Microsoft for a subscription" or "support free software but have a kind of subpar office suite experience", I guarantee that it's because you're working with outdated information, or outdated software. Most people I know who have used the latest version of LibreOffice prefer it to Word. I even know a handful of people who prefer it to Scrivener.

Open Office was the original project, and so it has the most name recognition, and as far as I can tell, that's really the only reason people are still recommending it. It's kind of like if people were saying "hey, the iPhone 14 isn't your only smart phone option!" but then were only ever recommending the Samsung Galaxy S5 as an alternative. LibreOffice is literally a version of the same exact program as Open Office that's just newer and better – please don't get locked into using a worse tool just because the updated version of the program has a different name!

Because of the rushed way he had to learn the ways of the Force, Luke must have had to reverse engineer a lot of basic stuff. Just think of how differently the younglings of the old temple were introduced to it. From the cradle, the Force was as a motherly presence, everloving and all-encompasing.

To Luke, the Force was a weapon. At least at first. Even if Yoda tried to conjure a semblance of proper training, the need to vanquish the evil and the urgency of the many lives that depended on it must have kept polluting every lesson. Like a tiny voice reminding the boy to become strong and powerful or else.

But the Force is not a weapon.

Now imagine Luke after the war is over, without that heavy purpose, trying to reach into the Force and finding that picturing it as a blade to pierce through the darkness makes no sense anymore. Building a new order requires a whole different set of skills.

How strange must have felt, and how long must have taken to understand his masters' words under the new light of the new peace and come to see that, just as it connects everything, the Force closes wounds too. How strangely natural to come to her arms like someone he's always known, that's always been a chunk of himself.

Just imagine the moment Luke Skywalker realized that he's not a weapon.
